Keeping chip-shop chips?

69 replies

Stillcountingbeans · 06/03/2023 18:39

We just got some chips from a chip shop for dinner. The portions were enormous - about twice as much as we needed.
Can they be kept in the fridge or freezer? Can they be microwaved, re-fried or baked in the oven?
Or shall I just bin them?

They are traditional big fat chips, not thin ones.

Refrigerate, then microwave them, sprinkle with water beforehand. Bin it not eaten within 48hrs.

Sorry, just saw your post, @WinterMusings I chop the celeriac into chips, then par boil for 5-10 minutes. Then I drain well, add to airfryer and give a few sprays of oil, then season with paprika and chilli salt. Don’t go super crispy, but definitely a reasonable substitute when low carbing.

@Wisheverydaywasfriday

thanks for that 😊

that's pretty much what I did in the oven. I'll have to do some & take them
over to my friends air fryer!!

Do I need to get some racks or something to separate them
out??

if they make a passable alternative, it'll tip me over into buying an air fryer!! 😂😂

Have put them in the fridge and freezer. They can be reheated on an oven around 200 degrees intolerant they are cooked. And they are good!

Until not intolerant!!

I do this with chips from the Chinese all the time in my air fryer. Keep in fridge for a couple of days, just stick them in air fryer and the crisp back up beautifully. I dont know how people can microwave chips!!

Fridge. Heat in microwave up to three days later.

I do this too. Leftover chips are also delicious when reheated and put into a chip butty (or between two slices of toast in my case) as it melts with the butter or margerine. I end up craving them again days later.

Put carefully in the fridge, naming the cartons for each person. Leave there for two days before deciding they are too depressing and then chuck in the bin.

Wisheverydaywasfriday · 10/03/2023 21:38

@WinterMusings I don’t separate; just toss them all into the basket and give a little shake every now and then. Just need to be careful, as they are much less robust than potato, and can break easily. You won’t mistake them for the real thing, but I find them more than palatable. 😃

WinterMusings · 10/03/2023 21:55

@Wisheverydaywasfriday

oh ok, that's even easier!

yeah, I'm not expecting them to be like proper Chios (unfortunately!!

but like celeriac mash, it's better than nothing!!

newbie202020 · 10/03/2023 22:18

Always freeze then reheat in the oven - delicious!

Wisheverydaywasfriday · 10/03/2023 23:02

@WinterMusings haven’t tried the mash, must give it a go. Good luck with the chips 😃

Get yourself an air fryer. 3 minutes, perfection.

@MrsSkylerWhite 3 mins??? Blimey.

part of the trouble with getting one (other than the fact it's a stupidly small kitchen) is that good I love but can no longer eat is so much easier & quicker & im a bit concerned it'll make it all too easy to eat verboten food!! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Goingtobee · 11/03/2023 00:00

Freeze then reheat in air fryer. Works perfectly!

maddy68 · 11/03/2023 00:05

If you have an air fryer. Whack them in there on max crisp

MrsSkylerWhite · 11/03/2023 00:08

WinterMusings

Well, quite! Unfortunately true.

Youngest works at McD’s part-time, where free meals during shift are part of the deal. He brings them home and re-heats.

I have never like their fries but honestly, after air frying for a couple of minutes, they’re little strips of crispy, fatty, salty tastiness. chip shop, fat chips are even better.

Sorry 🤣

anunlikelyseahorse · 11/03/2023 14:13

Battered onion rings are lush reheated😋

Battered or breaded or even fried/grilled/oven baked or raw onions have never survived long enough to find out !!!

I came on the thread to suggest the chip omelette. It's like a shortcut to a Spanish tortilla.

We do this too! Put the chips in a pan, cover with eggs and add spinach / kale / asparagus and cheese. Bake in oven
