Help, backs of earrings stuck in DD’s ea

DD had her ears pierced just before Christmas. She was so excited to change them after six weeks so changed them loads until last week she pulled one through from the back. I told her to put one pair in and stop changing them but tonight the backs have gone into her ears. How do i get them out?

You'll have to go to either a&e, walk in, urgent care or minor injuries

screamingj · 03/03/2023 20:13

She really needs to stop messing with them & let them heal. I'd get her to lie back in the bath with her ears submerged for a while and see if that softens them. Others may have better ideas

sixfoot · 03/03/2023 20:14

We were told three full months before changing. Six weeks seems very quick, they probably weren’t properly healed!

HCP here. I've actually dealt with this before and unfortunately it's a minor injuries scenario. A practice nurse would be unlikely to want to touch this due to the complications that can occur.

Motheranddaughtertotwo · 03/03/2023 20:16

I took my daughter to a&e for this once. I’m not sure how you could get it out yourself. I’d take her to out of hours.

Todayisanewday75 · 03/03/2023 20:16

Can it wait overnight?

Minor injuries and then leave them alone

MollyMunster · 03/03/2023 20:20

Minor injuries in the morning, I’d say.

Maireas · 03/03/2023 20:24

How old is she, and how much discomfort is she in?.

CheeseDreamsTonight · 03/03/2023 20:25

DD's took a year to heal properly and didn't respond well to changing. She needs to leave them alone

Sometimeswinning · 03/03/2023 20:26

This happened to me on holiday. It was fine left till we came home. One of the reasons my 7 year old will not have her ears pierced.

Todayisanewday75 · 03/03/2023 20:26

Shes 11 and not in any pain but quite distesse

This happened to my daughter but there was enough poking through to be able to get a grip with some tweezers.

I used some numbing cream I already had in the house and some antibacterial spray to sanitise the area then did it once the cream had worked.

SunshineIndoors123 · 03/03/2023 20:36

This happened to me when I was a child..my mum rang the GP but they told us to go to A&E. They froze my ear lobe then pulled it out.

Cronehands · 03/03/2023 20:39

This was me. I didn't tell anyone until I was in a lot of pain and they were all oozing. Don't think my Dr had seen it before! I remember anaesthetic being injected in, which stung, and him having to slice a little with a scalpel. Had to wait for them to heal, then get them re pierced; annoyingly, off centre. Think I was about 12, so about 30or so years ago.

I was v v clear that dd would have to wait to change hers and she heard my horror story a lot.

Breadhead1 · 03/03/2023 20:41

Happened to me as a child, a and e job or minor injuries but I imagine tomorrow morning would be fine

Stardust35 · 03/03/2023 20:46

This brings back memories of when I was a child. Told my mum, and she used tweezers to pull the back if the earring through my badly swollen ear lobe. I fainted off the kitchen chair from the pain and panic.

Take your daughter to a&e, I would say!

Mittens1717 · 03/03/2023 20:48

I had this with my dd just before xmas, had to bring her to our local GP who froze her ear to get it out

Can it wait overnight?

Yes

Todayisanewday75 · 03/03/2023 20:50

Thanks everyone. Will take her to minor injuries in the morning. Turns out since shes been putting the earrings in herself she’s been putting the back on as tightly as possible

Cronehands · 03/03/2023 20:52

I'd slept in mine, because it was hard work getting them in and out. They were proper gold, little butterflies. They came out all bent.
I've never worn butterfly earrings since.

adognamedrover · 03/03/2023 20:53

Happened to my dd last year. She had to go to minor injuries and have gas and air to get it out.
She screamed the place down.

Herja · 03/03/2023 20:56

I've cut them out of my own ear in this situation and fuck me it hurt. Definitely a minor injuries job!

(I also did it by putting the backs on too tight. Screw on stud backs are good for stopping this, if she worried about losing the earings. Does limit your choice somewhat though)

CombatBarbie · 03/03/2023 21:00

Mine do this with a certain pair of earrings, I just push them back out.

Todayisanewday75 · 03/03/2023 21:10

I think she has definitely been putting the backs on too tight
