Help, backs of earrings stuck in DD’s ea

Todayisanewday75 · 03/03/2023 20:11

DD had her ears pierced just before Christmas. She was so excited to change them after six weeks so changed them loads until last week she pulled one through from the back. I told her to put one pair in and stop changing them but tonight the backs have gone into her ears. How do i get them out?

No advice about the situation sorry but just to say that you can buy a bag of rubber cone shaped earring backs on Amazon for a few £. They are hypoallergenic and don't slip off or come loose like some metal backs do, would definitely recommend if she has been fretting that her backs will fall off.

JustSoTired23 · 03/03/2023 21:15

Dd had to go to a nd e
Couldn't even see the back

whattodo87 · 03/03/2023 21:16

I have recently had my ears pierced and am struggling to understand how the back can go into the ear ?!
Do you mean into the actually hole of the piercing ?

Sorry for my ignorance and I hope she is ok x

Are the actual stud fasteners become embedded in her earlobes? Her earlobes must be so swollen and inflamed for this to happen. Are they infected?

CombatBarbie · 03/03/2023 21:22

Op can you try push them back out, I've had to do this before. Before losing hours down the minor injuries unit.

StaceySolomonSwash · 03/03/2023 21:22

Once you've got it sorted maybe keep her using sleeper earrings for the foreseeable future to give the holes a chance to properly heal.

rainbowlou · 03/03/2023 21:23

This happened to my daughter too and after numbing it with ice I managed to hook the backs out. I squeezed the lobe (gently!) to bring the earring back right up to the piercing hole.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 03/03/2023 21:40

I took my DD to a tattoo place when the front of hers went into the ear. They gently pushed it out and it healed up.

It happened to me when I was a kid

DottieUncBab · 03/03/2023 21:50

My piercing lady always says 6 months for lobes to heal, 6 weeks seems too soon. If soaking her ears doesn’t reduce the swelling I agree with others and minor injuries.

PoliticallyCorrectCatCall · 03/03/2023 21:53

I am shocked how many people have had the same issue.

Piercing guns should be banned. They should be pierced with a needle and fitted with a barbel or labret, and everyone given proper advice - 3-6 months+ healing time!

Mugonforehead · 03/03/2023 22:17

This happened to me when I was about 8. Remember it so well, I had to go walk in to get it out, I’m still paranoid when I wear earrings that it will happen again 😂

anon37484291918 · 03/03/2023 22:19

This happened to me.

My parents pushed the earring from the front so the stalk and butterfly poked out the back a bit more and pulled the butterfly out.

BakingQueen14 · 03/03/2023 22:26

With regards to the rubber backs you can get for stud earrings - I used these for some of my studs because I was sick of losing the butterfly backs. I hardly bother changing most of mine anymore so they were on there years and the rubber backs actually sealed themselves on. I ended up getting them cut off with pliers when the piercings became sore. I'd never use them again.

underneaththeash · 03/03/2023 23:43

We had that a few times with DD(11) recently and I just did what @anon37484291918 did and pushed it through. but @PoliticallyCorrectCatCall we got it done with a needle.

I think that the posts that are used are too small and they need to be thicker.

Cronehands · 03/03/2023 23:56

There was no way in hell I was letting anyone touch my ears!
The issue was ťiny backs, thin stems, unhealed holes and a massively impatient 12 year old.

Caviarandgelatine · 03/03/2023 23:59

Poor child.

catskittens · 04/03/2023 00:08

i had this a few weeks back they are so tiny and got into the habit of checking the back was still on

anyway i couldnt find the back and cant feel it in my lobe ,my son said it would get infected but its been ok but havent had earrings in since

i cant feel anything when i press my lobe i think i cant be there and fallen out they are so small you cant see them

anyway thanks to this thread ive ordered some plastic ones on amazon,im still wondering if its tucked away in my lobe

Todayisanewday75 · 04/03/2023 10:35

Went to minor injuries. They were really embedded and one of them had started to heal over. She had a local anaesthetic and one had to be cut out.

Thanks for all the advice

Good call - but poor lass. I hope she's ok.
Children getting piercings is always risky, they do take some looking after. Hopefully she'll bounce back quickly.

Todayisanewday75 · 04/03/2023 10:57

She seems fine now, playing roblox and eating biscuits!

Excellent 👍!

Breadhead1 · 04/03/2023 11:08

Great, glad she's OK 👍

sixfoot · 04/03/2023 11:55

Where did you get them pierced and they said 6 weeks healing?

Todayisanewday75 · 04/03/2023 13:49

It wasn’t six weeks healing, just that they could be changed after six weeks
