Between the hours of 6-8 and 4-8 my house sounds like a roller disco in about 1982. I can practically smell the Brut and Babycham.

He's mercifully keeping the interest to his own room, so it's only a faint sound (so more like the sound of nipping round the back for a snog and a ciggie than hurtling round the floor in a rara skirt). But I'm a light sleeper and was this morning awoken at 6.02 by Ra Ra Rasputin.

Oh, how I yearn for the silent days when he was busy creating a complex taxonomy of Daleks.

Please send support, sympathy and ear plugs!

Daleks?
Does he stretch to Doctorin' The Tardis by The Timelords?

Released in the 80s, it lifts 70s glam rock and mashes it with the Doctor Who theme tune. Not exactly disco, but danceable and he might like it

You wat Grin

This is never played- probably due to Gary Glitter similarities?

ShimmeringShirts · 03/03/2023 10:59

Lots of sympathy here, we’re not long past the Steps 5-6-7-8 phase on repeat that all of the lyrics are now firmly embedded in my head.

The only advice I can offer is to sing along, it’s what eventually ended the repeated playing of it here. DC doesn’t like when I join in the obsessions Grin

That song has been the soundtrack of our lives since 2017, when DD first introduced DS to it on what turned out to be the longest and most psychologically taxing autoroute journey I've ever experienced. How the ELeclerc wine flowed that night! I think I'll ask to have it at my funeral.

In an enclosed space that's not a Tardis

You deserve a medal along with the Wine

AllTangledUpInThisTango · 03/03/2023 11:03

He needs the Bee Gees in his life! And Jackie Wilson.

AllTangledUpInThisTango · 03/03/2023 11:06

Donna Summer and Sister Sledge! Big thumbs up.

This thread is making me happy Smile

Going to listen to Jive Talking now and might do a little boogie!

Redebs · 03/03/2023 11:09

Awww, sweet!
I do think your title thread should include AaaaahAaaahAaaahAaaahStayinAlive, tho'

furryfrontbottom · 03/03/2023 11:09

6am is definitely too early for any of that!

AllTangledUpInThisTango · 03/03/2023 11:12

Excuse me, Jive Talkin’

what was i thinking - just isn’t right without the right tone to it!

Freddiefan · 03/03/2023 11:14

OH and I were chucking at this thread and he remembered an incident when he was in the forces and living in the mess.
A man knocked on a neighbour's door, showed his neighbour a hammer and said 'I have come to fix the music'.

27Mankinis · 03/03/2023 11:16

Take him to all the Abba tribute bands you can find.

That's what I did. Grin

Plus noise cancelling headphones.

Oblomov23 · 03/03/2023 11:18
Grin I think it's quite a good era of music. I can think of worse.

My son (15) in one of his classes at school sits next to a boy who has autism and his obsession is trains and buses. On Wednesday they had a sub teacher who told them to read some text and chat quietly about it but this boy did none of that, all he did was talk to my son about the New York subway system!! My son is the most patient child and said he didn't have the heart to ask him to stop so he sat and listened and said he now feels like an expert with a weird desire to visit NY asap!!

Oblomov23 · 03/03/2023 11:19

@Trickedbyadoughnut
Was it basket case by green day? Grin

Yfory · 03/03/2023 11:22

Sounds fabulous to me. Great taste in music. Think of all the other far worse things your kid could be into!

Highdaysandholidays1 · 03/03/2023 11:24

This made me chuckle, one of mine listens to her music very loud and sings along, but not at 6am!

Spudlet · 03/03/2023 11:27

My DS’s current special interest is reciting the script to a Half Asleep Chris YouTube video about building a castle for some cats out of cardboard boxes. Complete with the annoying voice. Over and over and over again. Then we have to come and admire the invisible castle that has been built for the cats. The ones we don’t actually own.

Send help 😖

SouthCountryGirl · 03/03/2023 11:28

Your son might like BBC 4 on a Friday where they play old TOTP repeats. Currently 1994 for an hour followed by the 80s.

It's the reason why I'm obsessed with music from 1993. Embarrassingly Take That and East 17 mostly !

Moredarkchocolateplease · 03/03/2023 11:29

DD13 (ASD) is all things 80s.

Every line from every movie. War games, breakfast club, dirty dancing all of them. Tbf it could be much worse. He does still insist on showing me ALL the memes on the Internet too.

However music wise he walks around with his wireless headphones so we are at least spared that!!

Fingerbobs · 03/03/2023 11:32

“I'm just hoping the admissions tutors at whatever university DS aspires to attend are also massively into Warhammer, Daleks, and Donna Summer.”

Nothing more likely IME! Thank you for a very lovely cheerful thread 😊

Bluevelvetsofa · 03/03/2023 11:34

I taught a lad whose interests began in Year 7, with Glenn Miller and big bands and ended in Year 11 with The Beatles, via a number of different routes, including Jack the Ripper and Sweeney Todd. It was often necessary to delete the search history on the computer.

LakeTiticaca · 03/03/2023 11:35

Your son has great taste 👌 can I come round yours please? 😁

ChrissyHynde · 03/03/2023 11:37

Shalamar gets my vote every time

MyShrivelledGnarlyFinger · 03/03/2023 11:38

Great choice of music! Has he played Mud's Tiger Feet yet?

Arou · 03/03/2023 11:40

This is so cute 😄

Findyourneutralspace · 03/03/2023 11:40

Oh, now you see mine has a special interest in 80s music and films. I can finally get on board and share his special interest after years of nodding along to him telling me the intricate details of every car we drive past.
Im delighted! I say embrace your inner disco queen 💃
