What’s your gut reaction to a 38 year old being pregnant?

Do you consider 38 old to be having a baby? Just interested in how people honestly feel hearing it as obviously most people would be polite in person but I’m not sure if secretly they’d think it was quite old to be having a baby?

probably overthinking but hey…

I'd be judging the person who was judging the 'being pregnant at 38' scenario

Huh?

Yeah some people are weird.

I was never the carer for my parents as they didn't have any.

Unfortunately for me I'm the right age to be the carer for my older siblings. 😂

AllyArty · 01/03/2023 18:25

My initial reaction would be congratulations. Just bear in mind when the baby is an adult you will be in your 60s

My daughter gave birth 11 months ago to a bouncing baby boy. She was 38. We couldn't be happier. Shes enjoying being a mum and I am enjoying bring his granny. Shes back at work full time . Whats wrong with having a baby at 38 ? This post has annoyed me a bit.

Nothing is wrong with it... As all the posts have stated

StellakateT · 01/03/2023 18:26

I’d say congratulations. 38 is hardly old maybe medically for a first baby. I’m sure I was classed as an old mother at 27.

Hopefullhopeful · 01/03/2023 18:26

I was actually worried to read the answers.... I'm 35, fell pregnant for the first time last year which unfortunately didn't end the way I wanted it to after trying for some years prior. I plan on trying again this year and hadn't even considered how other people would feel!!

I wish you all the success in your second attempt as well as a healthy pregnancy. Other people's opinions are just that. As long as you're OK and can provide then it's just white noise, ignore it. X

LakieLady · 01/03/2023 18:27

Perfectly normal. Two friends had their first at 37, friend's daughter was 39.

These days, people ideally need to be established in their careers, have a home etc before having a family and it's not easy to do that much before mid-30s.

Pardon45 · 01/03/2023 18:27

I had my 1st at 40 and second at 42. My gut reaction is congratulations.

Lochjeda · 01/03/2023 18:28

Absolutely wouldn't think they were too old or anything negative, especially if they don't even have any children yet. My husbands cousins just had has her first at 43. Its nobody else's business.

Justbefair · 01/03/2023 18:28

Wouldn't think anything other than pleased for them. It can take a while to conceive, IVF help, being ready for it etc. Not old at all, most of my friends have had their babies in 30s and some early 40s. I would've been delighted to have fallen pregnant at age 38 as for myself it was older than that! X

Annierob · 01/03/2023 18:28

I would say Congratulations. 😊

WordtoYoMumma · 01/03/2023 18:28

Completely normal. I wouldn't have an opinion unless it was someone I knew then it would be "yay!"

ThePix · 01/03/2023 18:28

I had my first at 41 and second at 44 however thru were both ivf… so I wouldn’t turn a blind eye.

Peppermintpatty24 · 01/03/2023 18:29

I wouldn't bat eye lid. Congratulations if you are.

Penguinsaregreat · 01/03/2023 18:30

Totally normal.

RuthieIVF · 01/03/2023 18:32

As a 38 year pregnant woman, it's a relief to read these comments!!

Pippaskipper · 01/03/2023 18:32

Had mine at 36 and 38 so I wouldn’t bat an eyelid

Mishka3085 · 01/03/2023 18:32

Wouldn’t give it a second thought. Would be very happy for them.

Caelan2018 · 01/03/2023 18:32

Wow that would have really pissed me off its none of her business is she jealous does she have kids of her own... my first DS was born when i was 26 he is 17 now! Thank god I didn't settle for his father cos it was a disaster I married a wonderful guy 6 yrs ago we have 3 DS ages 4,2, 10 months and I am 44 next month hubby is 38 we had 6 losses one of them is buried in local cemetery do what works for you

etcher70 · 01/03/2023 18:32

Absolutely fine.

Kelljo83 · 01/03/2023 18:32

To be honest for me personally it's too old. I'm 39 and have a 9 year old.
However I have no judgments towards women having babies at that age, in fact I applaude you! Because let's be real it's bloody hard work bringing a little human into the world and keeping them alive.

If you've had kids younger, and have another at 38 I think you're brave... if its your first child you will adapt and it'll be fine. For me though, it's a no 😉

gottogonow · 01/03/2023 18:33

Wishimaywishimight · 01/03/2023 11:50

Any chance she would like a 2nd child but not in a position to have one so perhaps an element of jealousy?

Yes I would say this is nothing to do with you, and all about how your sister feels. She may really wish she was in the position to have another child and up until now has felt your situations are “equal”. If you had another child it would then make her situation perhaps more poignant for her as she may love to have a brother or sister for her child.

Littlesticklebrick · 01/03/2023 18:33

I was 37 and didn’t think it was strange and I wasn’t aware of anyone else thinking so. 47 now with a gorgeous 10 year old!
