Aren't courgettes just gorgeous to chop?

I'm making a veggie chilli for dinner and it just occurred to me how pleasingly perfect they are to chop up... Just the right amount of resistance 😊.
That's it really. Anyone with me? 😁

I give my toddler courgette and mushrooms to cut. He bloody loves it!

I see your butternut squash and I raise you....celeriac. Definitely the worst.

Dang. RTT before posting, woman.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 28/02/2023 20:24

I mean, they don't need peeling, but the feeling of peeling that layer of skin off and leaving clean, fresh white underneath is just delicious.

I read in a recipe book that if there is any growing medium or dirt on a mushroom, not to peel it but just wipe it with the ball of your thumb. That phrase always give me a little shiver. Just wipe it with the ball of your thumb It's so...intimate, somehow.

Can I throw celeriac in as the utmost bastard of a vegetable to prep? Trying to get the peel off the fucking thing and then chopping open to find weird straggly bits in the middle [shudders]

I'm so glad I made an absolutely bogging recipe with it about a year ago and haven't been able to look at it since.

I disagree.

I was just about to post that celeriac (once peeled) is satisfying to chop up.

Not as much as a courgette, I would say 7.5 out of 10 with courgette being a solid 10. But satisfying nevertheless.

Would anyone like to discuss pomegranates? Delicious but designed by the devil.

Fuck yes! We have half of one in the fridge atm and I just cannot be arsed with it. Just looking at it pisses me off.

Aubergines when fresh are like lovely killer whales with their smooth shiny skin and little snub noses. They have little scars sometimes just like killer whales have squid battle scars and fin scars from fighting.

Courgettes are like dolphins by comparison, not smooth bottle nosed dolphins, but rough harbour dolphins, unshaven after a night out on the Buckfast Tonic Wine. Hard, sometimes spikey little shits and not as playful or as soft as they would have us believe.

Sounds like it's not just the dolphins that have had a night out on the Bucky 😆

"Courgettes are like dolphins"

@WinterMusings

it was YEARS before I had cucumber unpeeled & not soaked in vinegar!! 😂

Are you from Yorkshire? My Nana used to serve cucumber like this with Sunday roast - she called it "Sally Allet" 😅

@Germolenequeen

No, Surrey, parents from South Shields.

but I assumed it was just a general '70's thing... cut glass dish with cucumber soaking in vinegar.

....oh & I'm a Germoline worshipper! If you have any of the proper stuff (no matter the use by date)... I'm your girl!!

Yes, I would.

one of the things I loved about visiting my Grandad was being allowed to eat a pomegranate (that he'd cut in half) with a pin!

Ndd135632 · 28/02/2023 23:00

you don't get that when you 'pop' the large stone out either(cut in half lengthwise and use your thumbs on the skin behind the stone to pop it out

oh good god am nearly 50 years old and never thought to do this. Practicing tomorrow !

Eating a pomegranate with a pin. That's reminds me of my dad.

It's not a thing nowadays is it?, even though pomegranates are more available. There's all this 'tap with the back of a spoon' thing now.

It's up there with writing on a banana with a ballpoint pen.

🤣🤣🤣

WhistleWhileIWork · 28/02/2023 23:31

Oooh, yes!
Mushrooms and olives too. Sooo bloody satisfying.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 01/03/2023 21:32

I don't mind a celeriac. Nobbly but not as much effort as a BNS.
I got myself a ridiculously sharp santoku knife so now DH and I argue over who gets to cut up veg, despite him never showing any skill or interest in cooking before!

ILoveADoubleEntendre · 01/03/2023 21:34

Just love the frivolity of this post! Made me laugh out loud. And yes completely agree with you.

Greentomatoes21 · 01/03/2023 21:56

Tesco subbed our onions with shallots. Stuff of veg chopping nightmares.
