Aren't courgettes just gorgeous to chop?

I'm making a veggie chilli for dinner and it just occurred to me how pleasingly perfect they are to chop up... Just the right amount of resistance 😊.
That's it really. Anyone with me? 😁

You make a good point. Oddly, I was thinking today whilst chopping the veg that inspired this thread that our good knife was feeling decidedly blunt.

Sorry, my last post was in reply to @BlackForestCake

Sharpen your knives.

Or use a serrated one, like you do for tomatoes (if you've any sense).

Yes I love a serrated knife for tomatoes. And I do use them for aubergines too. But you don't get the glide of a straight blade on a courgette...

Never really thought about this but you are so right! They chop perfectly!

This is exactly why I felt compelled to post. I hadn't properly noticed it before... It was a courgette-chopping epiphany and it brought some much-needed joy to my veg prepping session this afternoon.

What an excellent observation. Thank you. Pleasure in the small things.

Courgette cooked in butter and garlic takes a lot of beating

It's up there with writing on a banana with a ballpoint pen.

Yes!!

Yarboosucks · 28/02/2023 19:49

I have just been chopping rhubarb, equally joyful for me. I only ate three raw slices, hope my stomach will forgive me!

Steamed leek with Wensleydale and cranberry cheese melted all over it 👌

SqueakyDinosaur · 28/02/2023 19:55

I have just chopped two perfect courgettes and was thinking how nice it was, and then I found this thread!

Emmamoo89 · 28/02/2023 19:56

There's nothing gorgeous about them..

Zone2NorthLondon · 28/02/2023 19:57

I grate courgette

NevieSticks · 28/02/2023 19:57

Yes to courgettes. The worst one is butternut squash I reckon. They're vicious!

I have outsourced cutting up butternut squash to some kind people who cut them up, dispose of the stringy bits and then freeze them in conveniently sized bags. I don’t know who they are, but thank you.

viques · 28/02/2023 20:04

Would anyone like to discuss pomegranates? Delicious but designed by the devil.

BrandyandGinger · 28/02/2023 20:05

I think really fresh celery is the most satisfying vegetable to chop, but leeks get an honourable mention. Swedes are the worst by a long shot. I don't think you really need to peel mushrooms but sometimes I peel them just for the pleasure of doing it.

LindorDoubleChoc · 28/02/2023 20:06

Lovely to chop but really there's nothing nice about them taste-wise.

Badhairday101 · 28/02/2023 20:10

Yes so satisfying to chop, hardly any waste and they're not wet enough to leave any mess or gunky hands. Perfect!

DutchKatje · 28/02/2023 15:14

Funny enough, I diced a celery stick at lunch for my tuna salad and thought how pleasing it was. Just the right sort of crunch!

I did celery yesterday and was delighted at how chef-like my skills were in chopping it so quickly and neatly (in truth it was really the celery making me look good).

I have a friend who's mother refers to these as 'dangerous vegetables'. I actually agree with her

Germolenequeen · 28/02/2023 20:17

@WinterMusings

it was YEARS before I had cucumber unpeeled & not soaked in vinegar!! 😂

Are you from Yorkshire? My Nana used to serve cucumber like this with Sunday roast - she called it "Sally Allet" 😅

motleymop · 28/02/2023 20:18

FelicityBeedle · 28/02/2023 17:40

Celery to fry off is undoubtedly my favourite, a nice clean slice or two down the middle then finely chopping it is the only time I achieve a proper ‘chef’s chop chop chop motion.

Exactly. See above.

Germolenequeen · 28/02/2023 20:18

And yes to OP I've always loved chopping courgettes ... and eating them too 😋

I see your butternut squash and I raise you....celeriac. Definitely the worst.
