Are these fake Doc Martens?

Not too sure if these are genuine. I'm a bit worried I've bought fakes off Vinted.

Grr.

I've seen a few YouTube videos that show design details such as the tag logo, stitching, and just general details that don't seem quite right.

I'm a bit believer in second hand stuff but have always been wary of fakes and wished I'd trusted my gut... but it's £85 too late now. Maybe I'll have to try and flog them and get £10 back or something.

They look ok, does the insole have Dr Martens logo on it and the tongue have stamped shoe information?

Hard to tell from the photos but DM stitching is always veeery good, so any poor stitching is usually a sign of fakes. The soles look legit though & can't see anything obvious pointing to them being fake.

ChangedmynameagainforChristmas · 24/02/2023 12:15

Doc Martens are all made in China these days anyway so what exactly is a fake !
I now have two pairs with my eye on a third :)

NooNooHead1981 · 24/02/2023 12:16

Yes to both. I will have another look but I don't think they are fake but I haven't had any for 30 odd years so I can't remember what they used to be like when I had a pair.

Think you’re being paranoid 🤷‍♀️

JobbieBobbie · 24/02/2023 12:20

They look fine to me, exactly like my genuine ones.

Yeah if that's all there and from what I can see in the pictures they're real then. Seem in quite good knick for second hand too.

DuckDuckDiva · 24/02/2023 12:22

Check that the inner tongue has the size details printed on it and the inner sole the doc martens logo. They look genuine to me. The logo on the bottom of the shoe looks pretty neat whereas on fakes they are often messy or not there at all. Same with the stitching. I'd go with real. I used to work in a shoe shop and people would try and return fake shoes to us for exchanges so we got pretty good at spotting them.

NooNooHead1981 · 24/02/2023 12:32

Inner tongue has the size.

Dr Martens aren't quite the same since their manufacturing base was moved to China some years ago.

This might be why they seem different to your old ones?

NooNooHead1981 · 24/02/2023 12:36

Yes, I think the quality isn't quite as good 😅

Angelofthenortheast · 24/02/2023 12:36

They look real to me but for future reference, the shoe shop near me has always stocked dr martens factory seconds that didn't pass quality control. Sometimes it's just a tiny stitching imperfection, but sometimes the whole shoe is off. Maybe that's what you got?

Auntieobem · 24/02/2023 12:37

They look fine to me. Do they fit? If they do - Why on earth would you sell them on for a tenner and lose money when you have a perfectly wearable pair of boots???

Oigetoffmylawn · 24/02/2023 12:45

Even if you could remember, they'd be very different now- made elsewhere most of the time and different materials. Not the same shoe as 30 years ago. I do have my old ones, and the new ones look fake in comparison, but in reality, it's just that they're newer!

InPraiseOfBacchus · 24/02/2023 12:50

Genuine Doc Marten boots are incredibly poor quality nowadays. Crap leather that cracks, and poor build quality. Fakes might be better!

If you like this style, try Solovair boots - like Docs, less flashy but a bit nicer.

Solittletimeforwine · 24/02/2023 12:51

They look genuine to me too but I don’t understand why you’d flog them for a tenner if you thought they weren’t?

NooNooHead1981 · 24/02/2023 12:58

I don't think I would sell them to be honest, they are pretty good and I don't have any other boots to wear so I'll keep them and wear them anyway.

I was just about to write the same thing. Solovair for the win.

JobbieBobbie · 24/02/2023 15:56

I keep reading about how awful DMs are, but mine seem great! I suppose time will tell, but I'm really pleased with them - they look really new after a year or so.

Mouthfulofquiz · 24/02/2023 16:00

I was totally influenced by mumsnet to get some Solovair loafers and they were dreadful. The stitching didn’t match, to the point that the shoes looked different to each other. Customer service offered me paltry 25 percent off to keep them. I sent them back and wouldn’t order again.

Fluffygreenslippers · 24/02/2023 16:29

They’re real.

torquewench · 24/02/2023 16:31

Probably not fake. Their quality these days is shocking. Thin shiny leather with a lining that never breaks in.

They are terrible now 😞
I won't be buying another pair
