What are your children going as on World Book Day?
DS will be a lion from Dear Zoo :)

Thankfully our school are just doing a book swap given the current cost of living crisis, a relief to not have to think of an outfit!

Oh that is a good idea. I am sick of everything that the school does costing money.

(DS2 is going as Harry Potter).

I said on another thread that a few years back a kid in Ds1s class tried to take his shetland to school - going as War Horse. Grin I flipping loved that! (His parents dissauded him which was sensible I suppose. )

Another Hermione here. Thank god we have the outfit apart from a grey jumper which ive borrowed. I have to find an outfit for her theatre class production later this month which is going to be a pain in the arse.

I would love PJ day instead of dress up but the kids love doing it unfortunately.

Colin the spider from Mr Penguin Adventure series
His choice - thankfully easier to create than the first choice which was Mr Penguin himself

My DD is going as a Jedi

DS 10 is going as his hero Steve Backshall and taking a Deadly 60 book with him. I didn't mind he is just going in camo combats and a Steve B T shirt, I didn't mind buying the T shirt as he will get plenty of wear out of it.

My son had a moan about all the 'events and dressing' up pressure that my grandson's school put on them. He says that they'd just rather have a relaxing family meal at night without having to say "Eat Up, we've got to build/make/research XYZ before you go to bed... and it's going to take a long time." Not only are they having a dressing up day, but also a sponsored read to spread the pressure and blackmail around. Ridiculous!

Firefly89 · 01/03/2023 13:52

Our school are doing either dress up or come in your pjs or non uniform with a favourite book.
my ds has decided on mr tickle which is perfect as we can turn an orange top inside out, have orange face paint and have made some long arms from spare cardboard!

teraculum29 · 01/03/2023 13:54

My DD's school done brilliantly this year.
As not to add to the cost of living etc they asked for children to come in their PJ.

I appreciate schools trying to save us money.

However, dressing up in red / green / PJs is still have to buy something. She doesn't wear those colours and wouldn't wear pjs she has as they are a bit tarty. She has a Dalmatian onesie already that she was going to wear.

louise5754 · 01/03/2023 14:14

Tarty!!!!! 😬😬 I meant tatty 😂😂

GenuinelyDone · 01/03/2023 14:19

My daughter has half a million OK probably 40 Pokemon books and several Pokemon themed outfits/hats in the shapes of Pokemon so we're going with that.

The school have made a point for the last few years, that it's about celebrating your favourite book and dressing/bringing a prop to show you like it rather than dressing up as a character from the book and to use their imaginations about what can be used that they already have at home.

It tends to be more low key than the pics I've seen on FB but the kids seem to enjoy.

Ahahaaha 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I had to read this several times….

A crane with a wrecking ball. He has his heart set on it. Vaguely linked to various constuction-themed books we have around the house.

No monetary outlay, but lots of cardboard, black and yellow paint and complex engineering to make the crane arm move. We had to sacrifice a mini football and paint it black for the wrecking-ball. Tbh, I'd rather just have bought something from the shop!!!

The only slight compensation is thinking about the chaos he'll cause in the classroom tomorrow, as a small revenge on the school for adding to parents' 'to do' lists.

Somebodiesmother · 01/03/2023 14:26

Gerald the Giraffe. Bought a giraffe onesie that she can wear a pyjamas afterwards.

Orcubed · 01/03/2023 14:39

DC’s school has had the bright idea of “dress up as your favourite Dr Seuss character”. We’re in a deprived area and from the talk in the playground most of the parents had never heard of Dr Seuss. I much prefer it to be more open ended such as bring your favourite book to school or dress up as any character from a book.

PuttingDownRoots · 01/03/2023 14:46

Its Make a Mask at DS school.

But... all her favourite books just have normal people in now shes (very nearly) 10.
