What are your children going as on World Book Day?
DS will be a lion from Dear Zoo :)

Tiffany Aching (DD aged 10) and Nanny Ogg (DD aged 7)

The rule was that we had to have all costume components already in the house

Amazing! Have you taught her the hedgehog song?! 😂

JustAnotherManicNameChange · 26/02/2023 21:46

Ada Goth from Goth girl.

She's very excited.Grin

It sounds cooler than it is, basically just a purple dress, boots and a tiara.

My Ds is going as the universe this year, he’s autistic and not a fan of dresssing up but loves the usbourne lift the flap books and his latest obsession is the space one. So jealous of the schools doing pjs and a favourite book. Ds's school is very big on fundraising via dress up and it’s a huge source of stress throughout the year, never mind the expense of finding themed clothing at a moment’s notice. Being told on Thursday afternoon that the kids should come in the following Friday wearing something with numbers on for £2 was not fun… 😕

DS2 has a crocodile onesie and is therefore going to be The Enormous Crocodile.

DS1 is claiming a lab coat from DH and going as a scientist from one of his fact books.

Previous efforts have included Charlie Bucket (one small gold piece of card needed), George from George’s Marvellous Medicine (one brown bottle and spoon needed), a cricketer from Diary of a Cricket God and Captain Underpants (which did require a length of red fabric…and also persuading DS1 (then 5) that he couldn’t just wear the cape and underpants!).

Our theme may be seen to be ‘Good Grief, ok, what do we have stuff for?’.

HeyMicky · 26/02/2023 21:53

@SirSamVimesCityWatch No, we went with Wizard's Staff instead

SparkleSpangle · 26/02/2023 21:57

Wolf from little red riding hood. Her best friend is being red riding hood.

VenusClapTrap · 26/02/2023 21:59

Aziraphale from Good Omens. Re-using the wings he wore as Icarus for Greek Day.

bookworm14 · 26/02/2023 22:10

Our school is doing ‘wear pyjamas and bring a favourite book to share’. I’m happy as no need to fork out for a costume!

I love you 😂

laundryschmaundry · 26/02/2023 22:12

Little red riding hood. Her choice but was glad as I had an old red table cloth that I've run up into a cape on the sewing machine for nothing Grin

MarshaBradyo · 26/02/2023 22:13

Dd is keen on the pirate from Mungo and the Picture Book Pirates

She has an outfit and we’re making a purple berserker bird for her to carry

Doublechins · 26/02/2023 21:28

Ours aren't dressing up but have to wear something green. Pretty sure this is to save money but...we have multiple costumes and nothing green so I will have to buy something 🙄

Have you got blue and yellow? So maybe top in yellow, bottoms in blue . . .

anon37484291918 · 26/02/2023 23:00

Thursday.

Not doing a thing. The school is closed for the strike.
I have never been so grateful tbh!

Abzs · 27/02/2023 00:13

One of mine has to dress as an adjective. He will be camouflaged. I've tried to tell him that school uniform would be more effective camouflage in a school than British Terrain Pattern but he's having none of it.

So is my dd2's school, but they have moved WBD to Wednesday instead!

Twizbe · 27/02/2023 06:44

Bluey and Bingo. I know not technically book characters ( though we do have books with them in)

PepsiMaxandPringleStacks · 27/02/2023 06:54

4yo is Elmer, 6yo is Betty O Barley

Bigpinktrain · 27/02/2023 06:57

Our school is closed for the strike on Thursday.
They just got outstanding in their inspection so the head has said they can go in on Friday in their pjs, and they will have a treat day. 😌

spidereggs · 27/02/2023 07:59

Pyjamas

RainyReadingDay · 27/02/2023 08:16

Thankfully my DC are too old for this now. We never bought costumes. DD often went in wearing g jeans and a t-shirt, and carried a copy of a Horrid Henry book. Some kids went completely over the top with hugely expensive elaborate costumes, that seemed so wasteful for just one day.

AlwaysTheGoodGirl · 27/02/2023 11:43

My DD11 could not be less enthusiastic about WBD 🙄and dreads things like this. If only our school was doing a 'bring your favourite book to school' day instead of dressing up like toddlers. The only thing worse than being made to dress up in some costume is having to go in wearing pyjamas......

Bibbitybobbityboot · 27/02/2023 11:52

Rainbow Grey. We have repurposed other dressing up stuff we already had. In the past she has been the tiger from there's a tiger in my garden (already had tiger outfit), Rosie Revere engineer (white dress, red headscarf), Janet from the Smeds and the Smoos (made an alien mask out of cardboard) and Isadora Moon (used witch and fairy stuff she already had). Only 3 more years to go...Some years we have had to do the dressing up AND a potato. Or the dressing up AND a wooden spoon. This year is I think just the dressing up. Unless they spring something on us today. Which could happen.

evemillbank · 27/02/2023 11:55

As fairies this year.
