What are your children going as on World Book Day?
DS will be a lion from Dear Zoo :)

Thankfully our school are just doing a book swap given the current cost of living crisis, a relief to not have to think of an outfit!

IsThisIt2021 · 22/02/2023 19:00

3 children here. Haven’t heard anything from the eldest school. One will go as Harry Potter, as he already has the outfit. No idea on the youngest, he’s 5 and has outgrown the costume I bought last year and really don’t want to spend a fortune on another that he’ll outgrow!

BitchImTheSecretIngredient · 26/02/2023 13:47

@marshmallowsforbreakfast thats a nice idea!

@IsThisIt2021 Shorts and tshirt, bucket of toy dinosaurs and he's 'Harry and his bucketful of dinosaurs'.
I did this myself one year (teacher) and loads of people commented how easy/genius it was.

Elmer the Elephant

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 26/02/2023 14:03

No dressing up at dds' school. They've got to decorate a potato!

Hopeful16 · 26/02/2023 14:06

@SirSamVimesCityWatch I think your kids must go to school with mine!!! Are you Leeds based?

I know quite a lot of schools who do this now. I always feel it's a bit of a waste of a potato!

Sprogonthetyne · 26/02/2023 14:10

DS has a black cat style fake oodie, so he's going to be slinky malinki. DD's school are having come in pajamas day instead.

Hopeful16 · 26/02/2023 14:10

@TwoForTheDough hmmm better than an egg I suppose! 😂🤣😂 That would seriously make me think twice!

Near-ish to Leeds, but not actually Leeds. LS postcode though.

Ours is a pj/comfy clothes day and take your favourite book. So much easier than a costume

Ooh that’s a great idea! I’ll have to see if I can find some cheap dinosaurs but thank you for the great idea 😊

RandomUsernameHere · 26/02/2023 19:10

Our school is not doing dressing up. My DCs are not bothered (and DS always wants to wear football kit anyway and says whichever player is on the back has appeared in a match program and therefore counts as a book character)!

Our school are doing this this year too. I’m so relieved. They are going to go in joggers and a hoodie and they are going to be having hot chocolates apparently!

Meandfour · 26/02/2023 19:12

DD is going to be maleficent. She’s just finished the curse of maleficent and loved it!
DS2 wanted to be hulk but has now decided he wants to be the cat from room on the broom.
DS1 wants to be mr large so that’ll be interesting. Anyone seen any elephant costumes? 👀😂

I did that last year. Couldn’t really afford to buy costumes, so DS went as Harry. We have dinosaurs. We have a bucket. I wrote on the bucket and he wore some overalls. Nice and and easy.

DD went as Isadora Moon. Basically her own clothes but a bit of face paint to achieve it. Happier it’s cozy clothes/pj’s this year

Snipples · 26/02/2023 20:21

Our primary school is dressing up and DD is going as Mrs Twit. I've made her a little apron and she's taking one of her toy pots with strawberry laces as spaghetti and sweetie worms in it for the wormy spaghetti.

voxnihili · 26/02/2023 20:37

My DD is going as a Groovicorn. Probably not a well known book but it’s one of our favourite bedtime stories. Her costume has been made from stuff in her wardrobe and we made the accessories today.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 26/02/2023 20:50

DD1 is going as the little girl from paperdolls

DD2 doesnt really want to participate so is going as herself from a personalised book she has

DS who is Autistic and hates dress up days is going in Pjs

SkankingWombat · 26/02/2023 20:59

We are... lucky?... enough to have a PJ day and a dress up day... PJ is great - nice and easy, just have to make sure their favourite pair is ready to wear. The fancy dress is a PITA as always. 6yo DD2 is going as Hermione in the costume her sister wore for several years before outgrowing it and passing it along, so that is easily ticked off even if highly unoriginal, but I'm a stumped for 8yo DD1. I am struggling to marry what she already has in her wardrobe to a character in a book we own (or any book TBH). I refuse to buy anything specially for it.

Soubriquet · 26/02/2023 21:02

I actually want to go to the dc’s on WBD this year.

They are having an Alice in wonderland themed day. Each classroom is turned into a different part of the story and the kids will rotate around the school

champagneplanet · 26/02/2023 21:16

Our school haven't done dress up for years (they did a couple of years of potatoes though) but some bright spark decided to do a poll of the parents and apparently over 75% were in favour of dress up, don't believe it for a second 😂

Doublechins · 26/02/2023 21:28

Ours aren't dressing up but have to wear something green. Pretty sure this is to save money but...we have multiple costumes and nothing green so I will have to buy something 🙄

HeyMicky · 26/02/2023 21:35

Tiffany Aching (DD aged 10) and Nanny Ogg (DD aged 7)

The rule was that we had to have all costume components already in the house
