Do you do Easter decorations?

So we do Christmas decorations, and a little bit of halloween (trying to add every year a little bit, but it's not much still - I am not v good at styling/decorating) oh, and yes, bunting on DC birthdays, but that's it really. Do you do Easter decorations? What/how much? When do you put it out, for how long? Just curious.

I hope Easter decorations don't become a thing, with wreaths on doors. The local supermarket tried to sell a few themed decorations but they didn't catch on and it was all reduced in price to get rid of it in the end.

We have seasonal decorations all year round (connected to Waldorf philosophy quite possibly I suppose). If you've heard of the shop Myriad (myriad online and de noest) we've bought many of our wool and decorations from there. Winter is still up at the moment, but spring will replace from March through to April and May. We will add an egg to the display, but we also have wooden lambs, rabbits and chicks (ostheimer). We also hang a blossom garland from the ceiling.

We used to have a small Easter tree, made from a painted bare branch with tiny wooden decorations. I'm not sure why we no longer do that.

We don't do Instagram or any of that!

Caspianberg · 22/02/2023 09:58

Yes.
I live in a German speaking country where Easter trees have been around longer than Christmas trees I think.

Most people decorate trees or branches indoors or tree outdoors.
Easter is bigger than Christmas here, most children will receive biggest gift of the year at Easter rather than Christmas or birthdays ie neighbours children all had new bikes last year.

It's not bigger than Christmas but that's reminded me that every year we have the AIBU threads arguing about 'Easter presents'. I'll look forward to that! 😀

No, not really. I can buy some flowers, but don't have any Easter decorations. Maybe I will buy some new cushion covers for sofa this year, to give house fresh look 😂

flutterbyebaby · 22/02/2023 10:15

I decorate around my altar to represent spring

KatedeRoet · 22/02/2023 10:36

I have some wooden bunnies, chickens, eggs, cloth napkins etc that I bought 18years ago while living in the USA. They come out every Easter. We don’t do presents, just chocolate.

purplespiral · 22/02/2023 10:43

Yes, the Easter holidays are a couple of weeks long so the DC do Easter crafts every year which we put up. I got a twig tree during lockdown and they decorate eggs for that every year. They also have little chick wreaths and decorations that they hang in their rooms.

justtry · 22/02/2023 14:43

Thank you all for sharing, and it's nice to see a good sense of humour!

DC crafts will now be added too for decorations, something to do and something to display - two birds/one stone, which is perfect as I am so busy.
But before that I'll be very busy googling for Easter craft ideas.

The idea to hide chicks instead of the Easter eggs themselves for the egg hunt is also brilliant as our dog had eaten a box of Cadbury Roses at Christmas, and we had to take him to the vet. I am way too busy to do that again.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be extremely busy for the next 5 minutes to create an Instagram account.

No, I don't.

Myheadisfulloffishfumes · 22/02/2023 14:47

my DC are 13 & 16. I am thinking of buying some pussy willow to decorate with some glass eggs I've seen on line. This will be for my dining room table. I will also have some spring flowers in the house too and maybe a spring door wreath. Don't usually do the glass eggs or wreath. My DC wont be interested and nor will DH.

How old are the DC for everyone who is doing Easter decs ?

FrancescaContini · 22/02/2023 14:48

Christ no. Bunch of daffodils perhaps.

FavouriteSlippers · 22/02/2023 14:54

Yes. This year will be the Fri they break up so it will be up for the 2 weeks of half term.
I have Easter trees. Like potted bit of greenery and all eggs to make tree shape 1 larger 2 smaller each side on mantle.
An egg garland.
Glass jar filled with choc eggs.
And some nice bits from home sense etc.
Not keen on poundland type stuff as very samey I like different. The dcs have decor in playroom too but mainly stuff they made

Caspianberg · 22/02/2023 14:56

@signis - it is bigger than Christmas where I live ( not uk). Hence saying it’s a long time tradition for many worldwide not just ‘instagram’ new thing.

Myheadisfulloffishfumes · 22/02/2023 15:43

@justtry in the past I have hidden plastic eggs that I have filled with a coin or something other than chocolate.

DinosApple · 22/02/2023 16:21

Me and the DC blew 9 eggs and decorated each as the face of a family member.
DC1, DC2, me, DH, BIL, DB, DM, DDad and DGM all together for Easter dinner at ours after the Covid break.

We used them as place names and everyone had to work out which was them Grin. It was lots of fun.

Hanging them from a tree may look a little macabre, so we'll make some non head ones for that and reuse the place names.

LibertyLily · 22/02/2023 16:21

I'm not remotely busy - unless you count being knee-deep in a large DIY house renovation, lol - but I do have Instagram (no other social media though) and have decorated for Easter since the late 1990s. Occasionally I'll put a pic of our Easter decs on the grid 😉

It was originally a few twigs, sprayed white and put in a pretty planter, hung with some wooden egg decorations from the shop I used to own.

Now, I've a little Easter tree hung with tiny decorations from Homesense that I put in the kitchen window. There's also a wreath (made by me) decorated with eggs for the front door. Lots of seasonal flowers in vases too.

No Easter gifts here - although DH always expects a chocolate egg.

DinosApple · 22/02/2023 16:24

My DC were 11 & 12 last year blowing the eggs and decorating. That is definitely easier with bigger children.
Easter is a big deal in our house though (Catholic) so there will be some fuss and lots of chocolate.

DancingDaughter50 · 23/02/2023 19:00

Yes white branches, little eggs lambs and flowers.
Some beautiful bunnies around, ducks... Bunting... I love it.

LorenPops23 · 06/03/2023 14:06

We do, I think it's sweet and adds some cheer. I've just ordered some of this bunting for my garden!! :) Bunting!

Talltia · 02/04/2023 09:25

Bit late to the thread but yes I do. I find it really cheery to put some bits and pieces out for Easter and Halloween.

A few pastel coloured eggs on twigs, some bunting and a few bunnies from Homesense and Primark.

AngelinaFibres · 09/04/2023 22:51

The first time I saw an Easter tree was in St Ives on holiday with my young children in 1998. I was a single parent and everything was a bit crap. It was in a front bay window and I thought it was so uplifting and beautiful. I bought a few small decorations and I've added bits and bobs for the last 25 years. I hadn't done an Easter tree at home for the last few years. Children now adults,we were probably away etc. This year I have a one year old grandson so I got everything out and decorated a big branch as he is visiting tomorrow I had forgotten how jolly and uplifting it looks. The tradition will return. I don't have any social media to post on but I do enjoy looking at other people's things. It doesn't make you weak or frivolous if you like decorating your home and it takes minutes.

Disneyblueeyes · 09/04/2023 22:56

Slightly amused at how touchy people are being about the Instagram comment. Why?
You do you. Whether you're busy or not, have Instagram or not.

As for the OP, no I don't. I can't be arsed.

AliceMcK · 09/04/2023 22:59

Spring flowers on the mantle piece, Easter themed chicks & bunnies coloured by the dcs in the plant pots, Easter wreath made by dc on the front door, same with other rooms, home made wreaths hanging around, Easter centre piece on the table, Easter bunting put out Easter Sunday when the Easter bunny visits. We do have more but it’s packed away and I didn’t get out this year, mainly home made things the dcs made, some painted eggs to hang on tree branches etc..
