Do you do Easter decorations?

So we do Christmas decorations, and a little bit of halloween (trying to add every year a little bit, but it's not much still - I am not v good at styling/decorating) oh, and yes, bunting on DC birthdays, but that's it really. Do you do Easter decorations? What/how much? When do you put it out, for how long? Just curious.

No. But we will get flowers for Easter Sunday. I’m quite taken aback that people would decorate on Good Friday etc. That seems shockingly sacrilegious to me, and I’m not religious.

neverendinglauaundry · 22/02/2023 07:33

No! Part of the joy of Easter for me is that it involves very little work on my part and I get to eat lots of chocolate anyway!

daffodilandtulip · 22/02/2023 08:24

I've got one of those twig trees with lights on the end, that I hang eggs on. Some bunting and a wooden happy Easter sign, and a couple of other bits.
I also have different wreaths up throughout the seasons, some homemade. So we have both a spring and Easter one. I'll also put a spring flower garland on the fireplace very soon.

We make a large papier-mâché boulder and put it at the front door, and then roll it away on Easter Sunday.

This actually made me laugh loudly on my commute. Thanks OP!

Nutellaontoastplease · 22/02/2023 08:31

I do spring decorations. I have a spring themed wreath that I hang up and a few spring looking garlands and flower arrangements. I have autumn decorations too (I add Halloween decorations for the actual date).
I think it cheers up the place a little bit.
In response to a pp though, I am also a busy person and while I do have Facebook, I don't post photos of my decorations.

No. Definitely not. But then I'm a busy person and I don't have Instagram.

What’s instagram got to do with anything?

I grew up with lots of crafts and decorating for different seasonal events as my Mum was a childminder. Certainly had no instagram then. My eldest was born pre social media and didn’t stop us decorating.

Did you never have Christmas decorations as a child then or now? As it seems you are implying there’s no point decorating if it’s not on instagram?

AnotherCountryMummy · 22/02/2023 08:48

I don't usually, but I quite fancy it this year. I like the branches with hanging eggs and door wreaths. Will keep a look out.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 22/02/2023 08:50

Yes, when I buy easter eggs I chuck them on the dining room table, that is my 'decoration'.

FindingMeno · 22/02/2023 08:51

Hell no.
I wouldn't even do Christmas decorations if it were down to me.
I need a calm uncluttered space to function properly.

Ketchupwee · 22/02/2023 08:57

Oh god no, it's bad enough having to do stuff at Christmas

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 22/02/2023 09:00

Thank you for the reminder, OP, I got a few decs last year and had forgotten about them!

Just few eggs to hang on a branch, and a pretty door wreath, it made me smile last year. I find winter deeply depressing so like to celebrate its demise.

BetterArf · 22/02/2023 09:02

No, never have done.

I buy flowers for the house for Easter weekend, though, and we wear Easter Lily badges (Irish - 1916 Uprising rememberance).

Sparkletastic · 22/02/2023 09:07

Despite being busier than all of you I find time to decorate some twigs in a vase with egg decorations. It's about spring and new life for me. I am borrowing the boulder idea though.

feelinhopeful · 22/02/2023 09:08

We have a plant pot that has the children's handprints on. We fill with stones and cut off a branch from the small bush/tree thing in our garden. We hang some pastel eggs and decorations the children have made at school over the years on it.

Definitely not Instagram worthy but makes me happy when I see it!

TheFlis12345 · 22/02/2023 09:15

I love my spring / Easter decorations! We have a twig tree with hanging eggs as many others have described. I also have a few lovely china eggs painted with flowers and a couple of pastel coloured china rabbits that go on mantle pieces etc. There are always vases of daffodils and other spring flowers dotted around the house, and a decorative Easter bowl filled with chocolate eggs. I am also eyeing up a door wreath this year. Obviously Easter themed decorations tend to go up a couple of weeks before Easter and come down a few days after. Anything more generic spring will be there most of March and April.

TangledWebOfDeception · 22/02/2023 09:16

I have a small selection of hanging porcelain eggs from Royal Copenhagen. I’d like to get some glass ones as well. I also have a little egg shaped bonboniere from Georg Jensen which I fill with mini chocolate eggs. They go either in the dining room or the living room.

I decorate with bunches of daffodils and other spring flowers, and have a few Emma Bridgewater spring pieces too. They sit in the hallway.

I’d like to have a wreath but I never do as I baulk (unfairly) at the price.

Inkypot · 22/02/2023 09:19

😂 cracking up at the comments about how busy we all are!

I am undeniably the busiest and somehow even manage to have an Instagram account, it's exhausting being this busy 🥱
To answer the original question though, yes we usually have a few bits and bobs up for Easter. We're Catholic and over lockdown the kids' school set some truly lovely tasks about ways we could prepare our home for this time of year, we really enjoyed it so we've kept doing the same each year since 🙂
Now I must get back to my busy lifestyle!

No. Definitely not. But then I'm a busy person and I don't have Instagram.

I am busy person, I do not have Instagram but I do make time for crafting with my children. We have built up a collection of decorations. We hang some painted salt dough eggs off a branch we well forage for. We have some painted bunting. Wee things that make me smile and children love seeing things they made reappear and be valued.

AuntieMarys · 22/02/2023 09:34

No.
It's just another weekend to me.
I used to do an egg hunt for the dcs but no decorations or "stuff".

Not too busy to comment on Easter decorations on mumsnet though 😁

SalviaOfficinalis · 22/02/2023 09:37

I’ve never done them but now I have a DS (2yo) I might have a go, he’s probably love an Easter egg hunt

BreviloquentBastard · 22/02/2023 09:44

I do! I love Easter and spring. Daughter is very crafty and creative so she helps, we do garlands and painted eggs, and we have a blue spruce in the front garden that gets Christmas lights at Christmas, ghost lights on Halloween, and bumblebee lights at Easter.

And you know those teeny fluffy yellow chicks you can get with the wire feet? I have a box of 100 of them and I hide them all over the house, mostly just to annoy my husband, but also in lieu of hiding chocolate eggs because the dogs would scarf them down immediately. Each chick found gains you one mini chocolate egg. There's a single rogue pink one and whoever finds that gets the giant Lindt bunny.

Oblomov23 · 22/02/2023 09:46

No. Christmas Decorations, Halloween. Easter no. A few mini eggs hidden round lounge, kitchen and hallway is about exciting as it gets.

Go you! I’m a busy person and usually decorate a tree branch with Easter egg decorations.

It’s amazing you have the time to be on Mumsnet and even more amazing that despite being a busy person, you have the time to sneer at others.

daisypond · 22/02/2023 09:51

I’m not averse to doing some egg painting and putting out a bowl of those. But only for Easter Sunday and afterwards. I think putting up “Easter decorations” on the lead-up to and day of extreme torture and death is awful. Easter Sunday and onwards, yeah, go for it.
