Fuck, I ate raw chicken....

I'm a total idiot, just opened a pack of Cajun chicken fillets in breadcrumbs and was on the second bite before I realised that they were not pre-cooked... Blush

Spat out what I could but according to Google, I have between 6 hours and 6 days to start vomiting and diarrhoea, with possible salmonella, just from the one bite I ingested, fml 🤦🏻‍♀️

Has anyone ever done this and survived? I could really use not spending all night puking!

DH and I were having a "discussion" about the safety of raw chicken. He was adamant it would be fine to eat. To test his theory I dared him to eat some, which to my surprise he did!

Annoyingly he was absolutely fine, and in his eyes proving his theory right.

Did it not feel horrible and slimy? I hate cutting up raw chicken, I imagine biting it must be really horrible

dudsville · 20/02/2023 17:46

Ha ha, omg, i did exactly this but ate a little more than you. I'd bought it for a lunch to eat at my desk and so i was multi tasking and not eating mindfully. I reckon i had a whole piece before i twigged as the chicken was so thinly cut. Aside from feeling repulsed i was fine. That's anecdotal, so i can't say that you will be too, but i was fine. Good luck!

If you don't have to drive anywhere, have a good swig of neat vodka to kill the germs Smile

You are more likely to get Salmonella and shit through the eye of a needle by eating a friends eggs from their free-range home kept chickens than you are from eating raw supermarket goujons.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 20/02/2023 18:16

Better to have eaten it completely raw than incompletely cooked, as any bacteria would have multiplied in the heating process. As long as it wasn't contaminated to begin with, though, you will be OK - raw meat isn't dangerous in itself.

Redebs · 20/02/2023 18:18

Raw meat can be extremely dangerous

AllWorkYoPlait · 20/02/2023 18:22

If it was stored properly I wouldn't worry too much and wouldn't make myself sick. Chances are you'll be fine.

How on earth did you not realise though?! Raw chicken is so flabby and slimy 😷

My cat ate raw chicken and was fine.

Do take care crossing any roads though, that's what did it for my cat. Sad

Gosh I'm a proper awful person, I properly laughed at this.

HoodieBell · 20/02/2023 19:21

British chickens are vaccinated for salmonella so you should be fine. And the Japanese eat raw chicken and they have the highest life expectancy in the world!

IndiaDreamer · 20/02/2023 19:54

I did that and I died, sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

How did you not notice the texture when you bit into it?!

Stuff of nightmares.

Hope you're OK but I'd get the loo roll ready just in case.

Hi all, me and my partner ordered a takeaway last night and we was eating and it tasted fine. It’s only until I send my friend a video of the chicken wrap that I noticed the chicken looked odd. Luckily I’m friends with the owner of the restaurant so I sent her the pictures of the chicken and she reassured me it’s 1000% impossible for the chicken to be raw but I’m in panic mode now as I ate 3 quarters of the wrap before I noticed and my DH ate all of his.

some of my other friends said it looks raw but others said it’s just fat / grissle. I have a phobia of vomiting so I’m in panic mode.

it’s been 11 hours since we ate and I feel sicky but I think I’m worrying myself. If it was raw chicken how long would it take for us to be ill?

thanks

Acommonreader · 13/12/2023 08:09

My brother ate raw chicken goujons as a favourite snack for months before I caught him! He thought they were ready to eat. No ill effects at all and actually i think he misses them 😆

AgentProvocateur · 13/12/2023 08:15

My toddler ate a whole raw chicken breast with no after effects. He’s 30 now! 😂
