Are we allowed to talk about Peter Faulding?

I just can’t understand what he was thinking??

On the one hand, very kindly donating his time and expertise.

On the other hand, he turned this case into a circus.

His categorical declarations sent people wild with speculation. It’s awful, and I just can’t understand why he did it.

There’s a report on the DM - so not sure if it’s total accuracy - that his organisation has been removed from the National Crime Agency Expert List

In today's Times

Are we allowed to talk about Peter Faulding?
MaggieFS · 25/02/2023 08:26

Hit post too soon. Yes, I wouldn't trust the accuracy of the DM either but can't see The Times would bother printing it if not accurate.

Good.

MySugarBabyLove · 25/02/2023 08:43

Never liked him. I hope he never works again. Oh, and that his book is a flop.

SweetSakura · 25/02/2023 08:46

Pleased to see that. His behaviour was undoubtedly a significant factor in stirring up a social media frenzy of awful theories about what happened

Came here to agree.
It's not the failure to find Nicola that was necessarily the fault of his team, but his communications and actions seemed highly unprofessional to me.

picklemewalnuts · 25/02/2023 18:05

I've seen that in LBC too.

It's pending investigation. I'd imagine he'll be shown where his behaviour was unprofessional and allowed back on the list if he behaves. I mean, I don't think anyone is questioning his teams skill, it's all about his communication. If he's kept away from coms, they can probably still do a perfectly good job.

BostonGeorge13 · 26/02/2023 04:29

A short film I created. It's a montage of Peter Faulding fuelling speculation during his scores of utterly bizarre media appearances. Enjoy.

Bubblehead3122 · 26/02/2023 10:57

It’s widely rumoured and reported that the reason he has been removed is that it’s come to light that despite his previous claims. This guy, has no forensic qualifications whatsoever, apart from a basic half day forensic awareness course given to special constables. Nor any qualifications in most of what he proclaims especially crime matters.

He’s managed over the years to involve himself in cases where no one has really done due diligence. It seems that he’s an absolute opportunist who’s been caught out. Senior police have made the correct decision in my view. He should never be allowed to be anywhere near a crime scene again.

Accountability is the word I would use…it’s not just about the failed search, it was his constant TV expert interviews, speculations, theories, claims. This is about the apparent credibility, apparent expertise and actions of one individual. I believe this speaks volumes about how senior police view this all.

SweetSakura · 26/02/2023 11:26

The media also have a huge lot to answer for in giving him so much airtime

That's exactly why he should have kept his mouth shut. Without knowing the full picture or conducting the whole search, he entitled himself to speak like he knew without considering what impact it'd give apart from his "expert image".

Spoke way too much and way too "confidently".

Return2thebasic · 26/02/2023 13:11

Funnily, there were so many people MN were absolutely worshiped him. Believe if he said NB isn't in the river then she's not.

And the whole frenzy was just a shamble and shameful circus.

Return2thebasic · 26/02/2023 13:13

"were absolutely worshiping him"

"Believed..."

Got a bit emotional, leading to full collapse of basic grammar. 🙈

Embelline · 26/02/2023 15:41

I feel sorry for his team actually.

picklemewalnuts · 26/02/2023 17:06

It's pretty shocking. I was aghast at what he was saying- but wasn't watching the news so thought perhaps I'd misunderstood what was going on.

BoreOfWhabylon · 26/02/2023 17:49

On Amazon you can read the first couple of chapters of his book.

If you hadn't realised it before, it makes it clear that he has absolutely no relevant qualifications in anything.

He is, however, a world class bullshitter.

I guess this is the problem when EVERYTHING is outsourced. It creates characters like this guy, an independent contractor, who seems to believe he is some kind of superhero with the power to detect human remains. He is essentially one of these armchair detectives, but with the money and resources to actually act on his impulses to get involved in the depressing world of locating corpses. I understand he has done some good work, and I wouldn't ever detract from that, but his ego is completely out of control, and his opinion of himself so high he couldn't comprehend why the police weren't telling him anything. He really had this "Do they not know how important I am?" attitude about him. I know it's been said before, but the way he went accepting every media request proved he couldn't be trusted with ANY information, and nor should he be. He's an independent contractor, and I am sick of these people thinking they are on the same level, or even more important than the police themselves. Just because you're volunteering free of charge, it doesn't grant you higher status.

I have a second video in the pipeline. It will be called - "I don't want to criticise the police", followed by a montage of the dozens of occasions he criticised the police. I know the subject of Nicola's death isn't remotely funny, but watching this guy, this walking caricature of a man, parade himself all over TV and radio, contradicting himself time and time again, without realising how much egg was splattering all over his face, was somewhat laughable.

Villagetoraiseachild · 27/11/2023 17:43

Peter Faulding has now given an interview on YouTube where he makes new claims.

RafaistheKingofClay · 27/11/2023 18:09

Grifter’s got to grift. I don’t suppose he’s considered Nicola’s family before doing that.

WombsofWimbledon · 27/11/2023 18:11

I can’t imagine being her family and having to deal with this being all over social media, all over again, for no good reason.

ThreeRingCircus · 27/11/2023 18:13

He is sick. He just cannot help inflating his ego even further despite the fact it'll be painful for Nicola's family. What a prick.

MySugarBabyLove · 27/11/2023 18:51

I think at least this time he doesn’t have the admiration of the public and the hangers on that he had before.

He took a very high fall from grace, and now most people think he’s the twat he is.

I always thought he was a self-serving arsehole but people on here jumped to his defence, but now I think he could possibly face a massive backlash. We can but hope.

SweetSakura · 27/11/2023 18:53

I can't imagine many people are stupid enough to still give him air time now

wited · 28/11/2023 07:12

What's he claiming?
