I've just driven past Nork village 😂

What's your favourite place name ?

Fleshhovel Lane. I presume it's to do with butchery in the past. Just leads to the canal marina now.

In Brussels, there's the metro station in French-Flemish : Arts Loi - Kunst Wet

One language pretty funny, but both!

Two of my kids went to Penistone Grammar school when we lived in the area, & our PC at the time refused to let me use the name.. ;-)

When I was a primary school teacher we were doing a project on garden birds. Guess which one shut down the whole computer system when searched for?

@NotMyDayJob I drove past Fanny Hands Lane on Saturday. Makes me laugh every time!

I heard some time ago about a small drama group who were trying to raise their profile, and they emailed loads of schools offering to perform their production of Dick Whittington free for the children. They were saddened not to be getting replies at all - not even a 'thanks but no thanks' - and it turned out that the emails had never made it through to them in the first place!

I hear that Scunthorpe and Lightwater sometimes have similar issues!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 20/02/2023 13:50

There's a road in Doncaster called Archers Way. Nice and ordinary enough; but pre 2009, it was called something different....

I've seen in a couple of forums that Scunthorpe is changed to SFrontBottomthorpe.

StinkerTroll · 20/02/2023 18:58

Google the address of South Yorkshire police operations complex..... most excellent address ever..... you're welcome 😊

Sadly, on occasion I have the comic appreciation of an adolescent boy. I was delighted by the 'Kiek in de kok' museum in Tallinn Estonia.

Splodgerbodgerbadger · 20/02/2023 19:28

Heck which is in Yorkshire and ecclefecan in Scotland which always reminds me of Father Ted!

Shebelievedshecouldbutshecba · 20/02/2023 19:29

We have Ugley (which has a Women’s Institute), Butt Lane and Shellow Bowells near here.

SouthCountryGirl · 20/02/2023 19:34

There's a town in Australia called Black Butt

eloquentsilence · 20/02/2023 19:51

Not in the UK, but there is a Bald Knob in Arkansas and Truth or Consequences in New Mexico.

JustDrama · 20/02/2023 19:57

Purpleflowerseverywhere · 20/02/2023 20:14

The only skiing I've ever done was when we lived in Pennsylvania, on a mountain called Blue Knob.

LibertyLily · 20/02/2023 23:59

I love all of these! We always look out for amusing place names on road trips....

Shellow Bowells I see has already been mentioned - when we lived in that part of England it never failed to raise a giggle or three!

I also like -
Kinlet and Nimlet (DH refers to these as the Hiblet Shriblets, lol)
Meole Brace

Now we live in Wales there's a few good ones -
Sketty
Goytre
Tavernspite
Cockett
Coldblow
And my personal favourite -
Dyfatty 😂

There's a sign when travelling along the A52 through Lincolnshire directing to the villages of Haceby and Braceby! I always find myself singing their names to the tune of Clodagh Rogers' song 'Come Back And Shake Me' ("Come back and Haceby, Braceby, in your arms!") Grin

Whyishewearingasombero · 21/02/2023 00:09

The splendidly named Happy Bottom Nature Reserve is quite near me. And I live on the edge of the Piddle Valley, which I forget sounds funny to visitors.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 21/02/2023 00:43

Wyre Piddle - IIRC in Dorset
