Is Gropecunt Lane still called that in Norwich?

I doubt it. How recent was that?

Shyandnervous · 20/02/2023 04:54

There's a Daddyhole Road in Torquay.

I used to live in a little hamlet in Hertfordshire called Cowroast...

Now live up a little country lane called Cuckolds Row in Somerset

Pishill and Nettlebed, both in Oxfordshire, always used to amuse me, driving past the road signs

Weedon (as in what you get if you sit under a horse) and Towcester (pronounced 'Toaster').

Peccary · 20/02/2023 06:49

We regularly drive through Penistone, we know how to pronounce it but the sat nav doesn't...

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 20/02/2023 07:09

Heckmondwike is a great town name that couldn't be anywhere but Yorkshire! It instantly makes you want to say "Eeeee, mother, well I'll go to the bottom of our stairs and make me way to Heckmondwike on a drizzly market day!"

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 20/02/2023 07:11

There's a road in Kidderminster called Park Butts Ringway. Sounds like whoever originally named it had quite a thing for bottoms!

ginandbearit · 20/02/2023 07:15

Cocking and Didling near me ..also in Hampshire Newton Valence and Hartley Maudit, always suggested two old thespian antique dealers who loathed each other..

DysonBison · 20/02/2023 07:27

Mardy, just outside Abergavenny

Three Cocks, near Brecon

lightlypoached · 20/02/2023 08:04

There are so many fabulous ones here, it's hard she sniggers childishly to pick a favourite.

You know what, this is my nearest town, and the pronunciation of the name is so normalised I forgot to mention it.

I was very dissapointed to discover that "Donisthorpe" is in Leicestershire. Seems like another name that could only be in Yorkshire.

LlynTegid · 20/02/2023 11:12

There is a village in Cambridgeshire called Ugley. It has a WI branch.
