If you wear glasses, do you wear eye makeup?

I'm 51 and wear varifocal glasses permanently, with a strong prescription. I don't mind them - they give me an "intellectual" look, and I don't get on with contact lenses. I've never worn much makeup, and when I do it's natural colours, but nothing around the eyes. If I had to take my glasses off to put makeup on, I wouldn't be able to see what I was doing! However, I'm insomniac, so my eyes often look tired, and I do sometimes wonder if makeup (and/or drops) might help. What do you wear?

I do! I sometimes wear contacts, sometimes glasses, and wear the same make up either way (eye shadow, eye liner on top lid, mascara). I do have to get quite close to the mirror to do it if I'm not wearing contacts. I'm only short sighted (fairly high prescription) which might make it easier for me, though.

I’m a -9.50 prescription with a +1.5 varifocal and I wear full eye make up - eyeliner, shadow, mascara etc. I just take my glasses off and get super close to the mirror to do it! Like 2 mins from the glass! 😁

Yes. Not eyeshadow, but mascara, liner and concealer.

I have a -10 prescription and am now on varifocals to boot. I find they shrunk my eyes and also cast some shadows. So I like some definition, and a light reflecting concealer.

It is hard seeing to apply it. I have to get my nose right up to the mirror, which always gets bits of eyeliner on it. But practice helps.

I use a magnifying mirror which helps a lot.

I wear glasses all the time, varifocals, strong prescription. I don't wear make up, although I did wear some concealer for under eyes and lipstick for my wedding last year. I bought it for the occasion to go with my nice silk dress. I guess I might do the same if I was dressing up for a very special occasion like that, but otherwise, no.

Yes, I always did. Current prescription is -8 and +1.5

Glasses since pre-teen so I learnt to put make up on with not being able to see a lot. Get a good magnifying mirror, for me the normal bathroom one is enough though.
I wear Mascara most days and eyeshadow (not always).

I feel something is missing if I don't wear eye make up but everything else.

Lostacorn · 19/02/2023 09:45

I wear mascara, my eye lashes are so blonde it looks like I don't have any without it. But I have heavy brows I don't think its worth me wearing eye shadow especially behind my glasses.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 19/02/2023 09:59

Yes. Eyeliner and mascara, I wouldn't normally bother with eyeshadow. My prescription is -13.5, so I have to apply it with my nose pressed up to the mirror!

HoisttheMainSail · 19/02/2023 10:08

you could get your eyelashes tinted. I find it makes a huge difference

Facinator · 19/02/2023 10:14

I wear varifocals or contacts. I use mascara everyday when I've got specs on. Then eyeliner and eyeshadow when not at work for either. I use a magnifying mirror.

bellac11 · 19/02/2023 10:14

No I cant really see without the glasses on and then my eyelashes always sweep against the glasses anyway, most of the day Im polishing them off because of this but its worse if I try to wear mascara because I get black lines on them.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 19/02/2023 10:34

On special occasions! It's so tricky to put on that it's not worth it for everyday.

squashyhat · 19/02/2023 10:44

I have pale eyelashes so need mascara at the very least. I use a strong wall-mounted magnifying mirror to see what I'm doing. Eyeshadow, eyeliner, the works. For holidays and special occasions I get my lashes dyed, largely because hotel mirrors are usually crap.

DinosApple · 19/02/2023 10:45

Yes I do. Concealer round the dark rings, and eyeliner. Rarely eyeshadow. Glasses over the top.
My prescription isn't too strong though and I am short sighted so applying it is no faff.

Mascara irritates my eyes now sadly.

TheFallenMadonna · 19/02/2023 10:53

Primer, eyeshadow, kohl liner, mascara. And a brow gel. I have white hair and big glasses and without make up my whole head is basically just specs.

Wolfout · 19/02/2023 11:03

Yes I wear varifocal glasses and always wear eye make up. I feel it makes my eyes stand out from behind the glasses.

I use a magnifying mirror to apply it - I have a Boots 5 x magnification one.
You can get light-up magnifying mirrors too, but I just do my make up near to the window so it’s light enough. (It’s also great for spotting all my menopausal extra chin hairs…)

BridieConvert · 19/02/2023 14:11

I'm 31, I just wear mascara and occasionally eyeliner under my glasses. Never been one for eyeshadows so have never bothered!
