What are your teenage DS wearing?

DS has his 14 birthday soon & needs some new clothes following a growth spurt. He tells me he wants ‘plain’ things 🤷‍♀️
He is also very slim so lots of things for his age seem too big at the moment.

What do your teen boys like to wear & where do they shop?

Skinny jeans, baggy t-shirts and baggy hoodies, Converse and beanies. His "dressing up" is a plain tshirt with a checked shirt over the top.
I get his jeans in Next because they are slim fit. Most other things are from H&M or River Island as he fits the men's XS.

Ifulikepinacoladas · 19/02/2023 09:43

DS(almost 15) has already started wearing shorts 😂that's it for the year til about October. He's bought himself a pair of Lacoste shorts and a Fred Perry sweatershirt, both JD, with Christmas money. Otherwise he wears a mix of brands and is more fussed about what it looks like. Loads of t shirts from M&M. He'll only wear tracksuit bottoms, if he's not wearing shorts or school trousers.

Ifulikepinacoladas · 19/02/2023 09:45

DS is also slim but the ASOS xs mens stuff fits him well.
ASOS great cos you can order loads and send back if no good.

My 15 year old wears trackie bottoms and t shirts from the obscure bands that he likes (pup, neutral milk hotel, black midi and the like)

MiniDinosaur · 19/02/2023 09:48

Cargo trousers and band tee shirts, with Nike jordans. Plain black jacket or hoody.
Most clothes from H&M, cheap and good quality.

thetrees · 19/02/2023 09:51

H&M cargos and oversized t shirts.

Skater hoodies.

No jeans for either of them.

It's dead easy for him

Sarahcoggles · 19/02/2023 10:09

In my experience, at that age you have to let them choose. 2 apparently identical hoodies are not actually identical to a teenager. They'll wear one but not the other!!

Dominicains · 19/02/2023 10:11

This is interesting- I work with a group of very deprived teenage boys and they are all in Trapstar, Hoodrich, Canada Goose (I don’t ask where they get the money from for these but can only imagine..) - they would not be seen dead in adidas, Nike or anything plain and unbranded. My DS on the other hand -
and completely independently of me as he knows I would get him whatever he wants - is into the plainest white T-shirts from M&S, plain grey joggers from there or even Tesco and has a selection of very understated grey and black hoodies from H&M or M&S. Coat is either a North Face ski jacket where the logo is the same colour as the jacket - or a plain black Nike puffa with invisible logo. Trainers are the only outlier - very flashy air force or sometimes plain black adidas / plain black hiking boots. Hasn’t worn jeans for a couple of years at least.

AliMonkey · 19/02/2023 10:12

DS wears jeans or grey joggers plus adidas t-shirts and hoodies. But now struggling to find jeans - he’s about 5’8 but has the waist of a ten year old (despite all the rubbish he likes to eat - I am very jealous!). Any ideas for where to get straight jeans that will fit that size? He’s basically wearing the largest length of Next kids jeans with adjustable waist but they are really too short now.

boredwithfoodprob · 19/02/2023 10:13

My son is 14 too. He was never into fashion at all and I used to choose all his clothes. Since he turned 14 he's been obsessed with certain clothes and most are £££ so he buys some of it second hand off Vinted. Brands he likes are North Face, Stussy, Supreme, and Arcterix. He likes Nike for trainers. He likes super baggy skate style baggy jeans and Carhart cargo jeans...

River Island go down to a 26 waist as I have some 26/32 men's jeans from there.

17yo here, but wearing the same sort of clothes from 14. Mostly black, with occasional navy, grey or dark olive green. Skinny or slim fit joggers, or cargo pants. Lots of underarmour or Nike, no massive or contrasting colour labels. Unobtrusive trainers. In different groups (my daughters friends) the boys wear Jordan’s/ air force in bright colours though.

This pretty much described my 15 year olds wardrobe

I love these threads. Loads of mum's vying to have the coolest/quirkiest/least/most fashionable son 🤣

In reality most teens dress for their tribe (even the quirky ones who wouldn't be seen dead in xyz) so I'd work out what tribe your son is in first. Is it sporty, nerdy, skater etc and go from there. I'd try to identify his coolest friend and check out what they are wearing!

This!!!

This is the same as second hand school uniform. Private school and the more affluent state schools have a roaring trade in second hand clothes. The more deprived areas don't.

GloomyDarkness · 19/02/2023 14:39

Took DS up the town last year - he wasn't that keen but came- did all clothes shops which wasn't a vast choice TBH - just to find out what he did like.

He is "odd" not into labels but likes colour - and yes he can be fussy about style things I can''t always see - but block colours not bright just not blacks, greys and dark colours that most teen boys seem to favour.

Even he say non uniform days it sea of grey and black with odd splash of colour from sport top standing out. I was frankly surprised about his choices but I do have a better idea what to look for him.

So I'd suggest doing similar -and then be prepare for changes with age - DD1 completely changed her style between school and college.

MrsMariaReynolds · 19/02/2023 14:55

DS (15) lives in mostly black clothing--cargos, joggers, hoodies, quirky t-shirts, with the occasional splash of pink. Converse trainers or Jordans hi-tops

OriGanOver · 19/02/2023 15:54

I don't know any teenage boy that wears jeans.

Around here it's a uniform of nike/northface tracksuits and airforce ones.

fastandthecurious1 · 19/02/2023 08:57

SS 16 is only ever in black/ white / grey or navy. He likes h&m relaxed fit tops, cargo trousers and
Very expensive trainers!

This but Nike tops rather than h&m. He also likes the brand Corteiz - he pays a fortune to have an image of Alcatraz on his crutch 🤷🏻‍♀️

My ds14 doesn't even own a pair of jeans! None of the teenage boys round here wear jeans.

redskydelight · 19/02/2023 16:52

DS lives in cheap joggers or jeans and T shirts.

He is, however, obsessed by having the right trainers.

I think you need to ask your DS and check what's "in" in your area. Some of the things mentioned on here are not commonly worn by DS or his friends.

Ds only wore his for farmwork in the summer. He now wears hiking trousers to leave the house, cheap joggers at home, suit for college.

SummerWinds · 19/02/2023 17:09

Joggers and shorts from Tesco F&F and Next.
Plain t shirts (earthy colours) from Amazon, as a set.
Plain black trainers
Not keen on any labels or patterns, prefers plain clothing.
Plus headband as growing thick curly hair out.

GloomyDarkness · 19/02/2023 17:13

Tend to get T-shirts from Qwertee.

They don't do suit for college here - it's uniform for the sixth forms and it's more typical student/teen attire for FE college.
