What are your teenage DS wearing?

DS has his 14 birthday soon & needs some new clothes following a growth spurt. He tells me he wants ‘plain’ things 🤷‍♀️
He is also very slim so lots of things for his age seem too big at the moment.

What do your teen boys like to wear & where do they shop?

Ds13 wears mainly plain t shirts (Next men's in the sale), hoodie and shorts with urban outfitters trainers (that's what fit and he liked in summer school shopping). I managed to get him to wear trousers the other day - joggers and thick white socks.

shockedballoon · 19/02/2023 08:35

My DS13 really doesn't like any noticeable logos at all, though he likes stuff related to things he is into - as such we've come up with getting some sew-on patches and customising. E.g. he has a dark blue
and black tie die effect hoodie from primark that has a sheikah style patch on it (Legend of Zelda, breath of the wild game), and a black hoodie with an Arcane (manga style TV series) patch

Ds wears JD. As do nearly all the teenage boys round here. It's expensive so of course it means that if he wants brands, a lot of it ends up being birthday/Xmas presents.

I can only imagine all these boys wearing plain H&M and refusing branded items live in very naice affluent areas.

For college / hanging out - pCargo trousers, obscure punk band t shirts, flannel shirts, army boots. For work plain tees, black jeans and vans .

It does seem a very class based thing. I work in lots of different schools. Non uniform day in one area all the boys in JD clobber. In the more leafy area all 90s indy kid, hiking type gear. Its seems a bit unfair that the kids in the less affluent areas are wanting to spend more on clothes!

Aldisfinest · 19/02/2023 08:53

A lot of them like Nike, Puma, etc. Boohoo MAN has some nice tracksuits in the men's sections and they are pretty cheap.

MegBusset · 19/02/2023 08:56

No logos or brands for either of mine. At home they live in onesies - out and about it’s plain joggers, T shirt and hoodies- usually from Primark, H&M or Next.

fastandthecurious1 · 19/02/2023 08:57

SS 16 is only ever in black/ white / grey or navy. He likes h&m relaxed fit tops, cargo trousers and
Very expensive trainers!

Howmanysleepsnow · 19/02/2023 08:58

17yo here, but wearing the same sort of clothes from 14. Mostly black, with occasional navy, grey or dark olive green. Skinny or slim fit joggers, or cargo pants. Lots of underarmour or Nike, no massive or contrasting colour labels. Unobtrusive trainers. In different groups (my daughters friends) the boys wear Jordan’s/ air force in bright colours though.

I'm a working class lone parent and DS prefers plain unbranded clothing.

MrsHGWells · 19/02/2023 09:02

No jeans - only joggers - A&Fitch; Primark given growth. Best Christmas buy - the Primark Oddie that’s been the worn daily since - is his go to loungewear

InsufficientMum · 19/02/2023 09:04

DS 13 wears men's next jeans. He has a couple of slim fit joggers - also next men's long which show his ankles. Where do you shop for joggers etc when next long range are too short?

tops - T-shirts, occasionally with a collar. Plain unbranded hoodie.
shoes - whatever I can find in his size in the sale.

Strugglingtodomybest · 19/02/2023 09:07

Ds1 (18) wears Polar Big Boy 90s-style baggy jeans, with Polar t-shirts and Carhartt coat.

Ds2 (16) wears cargo style Dickies trousers, with Polar t-shirts and a North Face coat.

Both wear some sort of Nike trainers.

hopeishere · 19/02/2023 09:09

DS 15 - joggers and hoodies - addidas, goose and gander, Nike. Literally only wears proper trousers to school.

Ducksurprise · 19/02/2023 09:14

Take him on a shopping trip for his birthday, he is too old now for you to chose or for us to advise. Clothing for teens makes a statement, some use it to fit in, some to standout.

TrianglePlayer · 19/02/2023 09:15

Two teenage boys and both wear black cargos when not doing sport and black joggers or shorts when doing sport. Coupled with black or grey hoodies and black, white, blue or grey t shirts.

tillyoumakeit · 19/02/2023 09:16

I love these threads. Loads of mum's vying to have the coolest/quirkiest/least/most fashionable son 🤣

In reality most teens dress for their tribe (even the quirky ones who wouldn't be seen dead in xyz) so I'd work out what tribe your son is in first. Is it sporty, nerdy, skater etc and go from there. I'd try to identify his coolest friend and check out what they are wearing!

Definitely agree with this - DS hates labels etc but it is just as much of a tribe identification/fitting in thing as the Northface look.

Cheaper though!

Yes, this. Let him choose. My DS (15) doesn't own anything Nike or north face. Still the same uniform of joggers, T-shirt, trainers but he likes to find odd/unusual brands.
I wouldn't have a clue what to buy him, but am happy to get sent links and get what he wants!

lljkk · 19/02/2023 09:25

My 15yr old wears clothes to keep warm. Does not care what he wears (like me).
18yo is fussy about style, in that he only wants completely generic & dull stuff, for years I struggled to get him out of navy, black or grey. Recently ventured into some greens, white, other blues.
All from Primark.

BigPussyEnergy · 19/02/2023 09:26

If he wants plain clothes try Uniqlo - my older teen boys both buy from there - it’s like a mix and match of plain but well fitting items that all work together! They refer to it as Norm-core!

Comedycook · 19/02/2023 09:29

I actually think in terms of teenage boy fashion it massively depends on the area you live in.

We live in London, my ds wouldn't dream of wearing a pair of jeans! And weirdly if you look round when you're out, no teenage boys are wearing jeans! He wears tracksuits and a lot of Nike! Mainly in black and white.

MaeMair · 19/02/2023 09:34

My DS (14) hates labels including the sportswear ones. Wants to be as far from road man/football lads as possible whilst remaining conservative, so it's plain everything, usually uniqlo (mens, small). Cargo pants only. No joggers or jeans! Sweatshirt/hoody. Some tshirts with Japanese cultural references.

cakeorwine · 19/02/2023 09:35

Jeans, t-shirt and hoody

Black t-shirt or variations of

Dead easy

MaeMair · 19/02/2023 09:35

And thanks @BigPussyEnergy now I know what to call it! Also we are far from London but another big city.
