Can I ask what you do for a living?

Honestly I'd feel rich if I had a salary like this! I'm
Here shamelessly looking for inspiration 😁

Executive Assistabg to a Chief Executive in the public sector. I started as an apprentice in business admin, then got a full time role in admin. Then I applied for a senior role in the team. After that, I applied for another admin role which was really project support work, supporting a small team and a director. Then my next role was my current role, though I used to also manage a team of PAs, then my role was split into two (office manager snd EA to CEO), and I stuck with the latter.

Assistant. Typing with one hand whilst doing bedtime.

IT Business Analyst >£70k, went to college, never uni/degree various jobs and roles to get here. A couple in the team I am in have degrees, most don't, they came up through the ranks from business roles, some started as forklift drivers, production schedulers, logistics staff, order desk, procurement etc.

Ime, in IT and supply chain, a degree is just a little step up on the employment ladder. Once there it means nothing, you need to prove yourself and take/seek opportunities as they arise (and a big pinch of luck too). Those with actual real life experience tend to do better in our org.

My DH is an after sales manager earning 70+k a year. No degree, no A levels. Basically worked his way up .

Nurse. My basic is 33k but with enhancements for night and weekends I can earn around 40k.

Need a degree though…

FredaFox · 16/02/2023 21:59

Executive Assistant, been in role 3/4 years, salary only went over 35k 1 year ago, had 2 pay increases in a year which I am very grateful for
I'm in my 40s

postitpatty · 16/02/2023 22:00

Police officer top of pay scale (over 7 years service) £43k. Scale starts at 23k and it takes 6 years to get over £35k.
TBH the stress of the job nowadays isn't worth it.

MrsSewAndGrow · 16/02/2023 22:03

I'm way over the earning bracket you asked for but I just wanted to stick my beak in and say that I'm so pleased to see a post like this where you're looking to aspire to something better for yourself. I obviously don't know you but gosh I've got everything crossed for you that you find some inspiration and throw yourself wholeheartedly towards your new goals, you've got this! 👍

EnglishRain · 16/02/2023 22:05

DH is a store manager in a medium sized retail shop (not grocery).

Alarae · 16/02/2023 22:06

DH falls within that bracket and is in procurement for the local council. He changed careers from facilities and has been in his current role for about 18 months?

Only qualification other than a few GCSEs is a NVQ 3 but is unrelated and from about 18 years ago. They will pay for him to do the procurement qualification but he's putting it off (not a fan of exams).

Washaload · 16/02/2023 22:09

OrangeBicycle · 16/02/2023 22:13

Part Qualified accountant, earn £37.5k plus bonus. I don’t have a degree but am studying for professional qualification

Obviouslynotallthere · 16/02/2023 22:14

I am a nurse qualified for 35 years. Trained by the NHS for the NHS so before training moved to universities.

Alliolly · 16/02/2023 22:15

Restaurant manager, a bit above your bracket.
Not sure it's worth the stress though.

noodkes · 16/02/2023 22:16

I earn £65k, no degree. IT delivery. No IT qualifications either. Just experience and a certain disposition

Tornado70 · 16/02/2023 22:16

Nurse.
£39 basic plus enhancement.
I trained before degree was the norm for nursing.

CymruChris · 16/02/2023 22:38

My husband, he's a mechanic for a council. Started at 16 as an apprentice and is now in a supervisory role. Whereas I went to Uni and am earning around 25k!

scoobydoo1971 · 16/02/2023 22:53

My ex-husband is earning that in retail management. My boyfriend earns more than that in maintenance/ joinery, and he left school at 15. He works around 35 hours a week, and he is self-employed. Have you thought of retraining in a trade? Highly sought after skill-set and well-paid.

Tangfastic71 · 16/02/2023 22:59

crazycatladyof6 · 16/02/2023 23:12

Health and safety

rockingbird · 16/02/2023 23:15

I earned my stripes as a PA 10+ years and I'm now a senior exec in a corporate for a top end ceo and work from home around my kids. Feel fortunate and have no degree. Show your commitment and good things will come.

DemonHost · 16/02/2023 23:17

I was a computer programmer on £42k 15 years ago but moved on since then.
