Can I ask what you do for a living?

Honestly I'd feel rich if I had a salary like this! I'm
Here shamelessly looking for inspiration 😁

I’ve got a degree but I earn significantly less than my DH who hasn’t got a degree and is on 90k without his bonuses, he’s got a job that is sort of managing I.T incidents, he’s worked his way up.

Retail supervisor/manager started as a shop assistant 5yrs ago and been promoted since

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 16/02/2023 20:58

Project planner in Oil and Gas

louderthan · 16/02/2023 20:58

Project management.
I'm currently earning the most I've ever earned and there was no requirement to have a degree in the job description. You can do qualifications on the job, there's loads of interesting work and you can easily move into other areas eg change management which is what I want to do ultimately.
You do need some experience to get an entry level project assistant/support role, but you can essentially 'spin' a lot of things as project work.

Forgetaboutme · 16/02/2023 21:04

Civil service. I actually do have a degree but its useless for the role I have and others in the same role as me dont have degrees. HEO and above for around 35k upwards

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 16/02/2023 21:05

I would add for my role it was either a qualification or relevant experience and I have been in oil and gas doing various things for 10+ years..

heidbuttsupper · 16/02/2023 21:07

University admin 43k

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 16/02/2023 21:08

My salary is above your target range but no degree or professional qualifications just worked my way up from call centre advisor one step at a time. I work in Information Security, Governance, Risk and Compliance now, £35-45k would be a GRC analyst type position. Something like these:

Earning over that atm, IT. 52 years old and just started up,own business with DH who also has long background in IT. He’s earning way more than me, but he is 20 years older and has been in the business since the 70s. However, the reason I can earn this much in IT is not because of the tech side of things tbh , it’s because I’ve got a background in the business the software is for - Trade Finance. That’s how I got the IT job in the first place, they needed someone who knew the business. I got the job in the business straight out of school, at 16, in 1987, as a junior and worked my up to a Manager in a Trade dept. Got poached from there.

Thank you for all the responses so far!

For those who said HR, I actually do have CIPD level 3 but I found it so difficult to move from a HR assistant in to an advisor role as, at time (5/6 years ago), when I am there we're just no opportunities in my area to do so. So I ended up in financial services admin.

nxa · 16/02/2023 21:10

Software tester. Although if I knew I could do HR for the same money, I'd probably have done that...

Welshy26 · 16/02/2023 21:10

Civil Servant.

TokyoSushi · 16/02/2023 21:11

£45K, Operations Director for a pharmaceutical company, came up through the PA route.

@FatAgainItsLettuceTime that is so helpful!! Thank you so much. I was thinking maybe financial services compliance might be a way to go

GenuinelyDone · 16/02/2023 21:14

Web developer. Mostly self taught/on the job learning.

doistayordoigo · 16/02/2023 21:17

I'm a Finance Officer and amjust under the bottom of your range but will hit it as I move up the payscale. I don't have a degree but do have AAT, although some of our team don't or are studying still.

DH is a police officer and has no degree, his background was in agriculture before joining the police.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 16/02/2023 21:19

Band 7 nurse, did the diploma, pre degree days. Fucking thankless job, would never recommend it to anyone but I do earn a bit more that £40k. I work a lot more than my paid hours each week though and haven’t had a lunch break for years despite them being unpaid.

ringoutsolsticebells · 16/02/2023 21:22

Respiratory specialist nurse. On approx £40k

princesssparklepants · 16/02/2023 21:30

Back office of an investment bank. On £50k + no degree... barely have GCSEs but have nearly 20 years experience now.

Opihr · 16/02/2023 21:31

Finance Manager for a MAT, looking after several secondary schools. No accountancy qualifications but finance experience in education.

Whereas the career path for teachers is quite prescriptive re qualifications, there's no set requirement for school business professionals and I have colleagues with a huge range of backgrounds.

wineandsunshine · 16/02/2023 21:31

I'm a teacher on around £32k - husband has no degree and earns double my salary in insurance 🥴

And I'm on a bit above your salary bracket.

StarsOnAMat · 16/02/2023 21:35

Police officer. Top line for a cop in Scotland is £45k with eleven years’ service.

ladymaiasura · 16/02/2023 21:36

Not sure why so many nurses are responding. It may have been possible to train without getting a degree years ago. It isn’t now.

TokenGinger · 16/02/2023 21:37

Executive Assistabg to a Chief Executive in the public sector. I started as an apprentice in business admin, then got a full time role in admin. Then I applied for a senior role in the team. After that, I applied for another admin role which was really project support work, supporting a small team and a director. Then my next role was my current role, though I used to also manage a team of PAs, then my role was split into two (office manager snd EA to CEO), and I stuck with the latter.
