Lion King, Les Mis, or Mousetrap?

Or something else?

DH and I are planning a special treat - a night in London and a theatre trip. We don't mind if it is a musical or play.
What would you recommend?

Well, what do you like or have liked in the past?

They're three very distinct choices!

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 15/02/2023 20:12

Les mis

So1invictus · 15/02/2023 20:13

Les Mis.
I think I could watch it every day.

Back to the future is phenomenal. As is Jersey Boys.

Personally I was disappointed in Lion King after all the hype. Can't comment on the rest.

LBOCS2 · 15/02/2023 20:13

Of those? Les Mis.

But what sort of thing do you like? There are a million options in London so maybe give us some ideas and we can suggest something?

TheFlis12345 · 15/02/2023 20:13

Les Mis, it’s amazing.

Mother87 · 15/02/2023 20:14

Les Mis

007DoubleOSeven · 15/02/2023 20:18

2:22 a ghost story, absolutely brilliant we did not stop talking about it!

Mousetrap, fantastic traditional whodunnit with so much history

Witness to the prosecution, over at county hall perfect setting and wonderful show

And check out Oklahoma on it westend transfer this take is meant to be outstanding

Ydkiml · 15/02/2023 20:19

Jersey boys is amazing , also Billy Elliot if still on in london .

vincettenoir · 15/02/2023 20:19

I’ve never seen Lion King and have heard a lot of mixed things about it. The Mousetrap is interesting enough. But Les Mis is completely mind-blowing and the best show I have ever seen (even better than Hamilton, which I am also crazy about).

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 15/02/2023 20:21

go and see Standing at the Sky's Edge at The National.
I've seen The Lion King and Les Mis and it knocked them both into a cocked hat.

PollyPaintsFlowers · 15/02/2023 20:22

Les Miserables. It's unforgettable

Whitney168 · 15/02/2023 20:22

Les Mis

BeautifulWar · 15/02/2023 20:23

Les Mis!

WeAreTheHeroes · 15/02/2023 20:25

Definitely Les Mis. The Mousetrap is likely to be available to see forever and is better known for being the longest running WE show than for being brilliant entertainment.

Les Mis.
I think I could watch it every day.

I have, and do watch it regularly in all forms be it stage show or film. It's just wonderful, having said that the story line is dark and probably not interesting to those without atleast a basic understanding of the politics of the time/ or just likes musicals. Both for me , I love it.

Stillcountingbeans · 15/02/2023 20:28

We would be happy with either over-the-top big stage spectacle, or a serious play. Probably not interested in the shows based on a particular pop/rock group.

I thought Lion King just for the costumes, but happy to take advice and go for Les Mis instead.

What good plays are on? well-plotted, though provoking, but nothing too edgy or trendy or 'adult content'.

I should have said we are looking at mid May.

I didn't love the second half of lion king...I would go Les Mis!

WFHbore2023 · 15/02/2023 20:31

Les Mis was/is stunning!

VictoriaBun · 15/02/2023 20:32

Les mis brilliant , Lion King disappointing , not seen Mousetrap.

NextPrimeMinister · 15/02/2023 20:34

2.22 Ghost Story is great.

Apparently Lion King is now dated and past it's prime.

Lcb123 · 15/02/2023 20:34

I wouldn’t go Lion king, it’s a bit over hyped and will be full of kids. I’d go Les Mis or the globe season will
have started by then

NextPrimeMinister · 15/02/2023 20:35

And Mousetrap is a very good, classic piece of theatre in a charming teeny theatre.

The Ivy is opposite so you could go there for dinner first.

AppleKatie · 15/02/2023 20:36

The lion king is ludicrously expensive for what it is.

To kill a Mockingbird at the Gielgud is pretty amazing at the moment.
