How do you have pyjama day?

Do you just stay in the PJs you woke up in? Or do you shower and change into fresh PJs? I do the first, but then by the evening I feel skanky, and it sort of undoes all the relaxation effect of having a pyjama day.

I'd just wear super slouchy clothes tbh. Like my baggy leggings and big hoodie.

Mumsnet couldn't possibly have a PJ day where you keep the PJs on... They all have 3 showers every morning, and can only wear pyjamas for a maximum of 10hrs and only after having out them on after their evening shower and pre bed shower.

So they would have to change into fresh clean PJs after their morning showers
.

1000yellowdaisies · 15/02/2023 13:42

We stay in the pjs we wake up all day maybe add some hoodies and slipper socks :)
Then i will have a shower and clean pjs before bed but the kids are 3 and 6 and sometimes they will go back to bed in the same pjs depending on how they feel! (Don't shoot me down its rare but we do get VERY lazy on our lazy days).

BreviloquentBastard · 15/02/2023 13:47

I don't wear pjs to bed so if I'm having a pj day it's in loungewear. I have a big dog walk every morning even if I'm having a pj day so I'd usually shower after that then chuck some loungewear on. I don't think there's anything really wrong with just keeping your jammies on though. Not like you're going anywhere.

MaryJean87 · 15/02/2023 14:49

I have to have a shower in the morning . I can't be doing with sticky bits. I dont really have a proper pj day as I usually have to go out for some reason or other but if I'm in for the rest of the day I'll put pyjama bottoms on.

WashAsDelicates · 15/02/2023 17:32

I do insist on a change of clothes at least once every 24h, no matter whether it's been PJs all day or 'proper' clothes. All my dc have gone through the "I can't possibly take my hoodie off for the hours it would take to wash and dry it you're so unreasonable it doesn't smell you don't understand" phase, and they all try to point the finger at me when I'm also still in pyjamas at supper time. Hah!

I go to bed in my PJs, stay in them the following day (for the PJ day), and then take them off the morning after.

I find them quite the opposite re showers!

Teatime55 · 15/02/2023 18:55

Personally I have daytime PJs. Which are my extremely comfortable joggers and a hoodie.
Also makes it look like I am kinda dressed if I answer the door

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 15/02/2023 18:57

I get up, have a shower and change into clean clothes - not pajamas but normally leggings and a baggy hoody or jumper.

Tiredmum100 · 15/02/2023 19:08

I never have a pj day. Maybe I should give it a ago.

Okunevo · 15/02/2023 19:10

I need a morning shower. I will wear joggers at home on weekends, changing to jeans to leave the house. Or I might change into pyjamas as soon as I'm home from work. Midwinter I could get home on a weekend and put on pyjamas at 4 maybe, but I don't wear them all day.

EarringsandLipstick · 15/02/2023 19:11

I've never in my life had a pyjama day. Not saying I disapprove but it's just not me. I wouldn't find that relaxing at all. I am poor at relaxing as I have so little time; and I'm bad at slowing down anyway. My ideal would be to have a day with no urgent tasks, kids' sports, or work & to be able to relax & read, go for a coffee, potter in the garden.

I couldn't stay inside all day without some time being outside.

Ostryga · 15/02/2023 19:13

Omg yes as much as possible. I don’t like to martyr myself into thinking I have to DO things all the time.

Best tip is make a pj day a fun thing for your kids so you can slob about eating popcorn and nachos watching endless Disney films all day on a Sunday.

I've never had one either. My kids would go mad stuck inside all day, as would I. Can't think of anything more mind numbing than watching films all day!

NannyGythaOgg · 15/02/2023 19:26

I'm retired and tend not to have PJ days as such. I spend most of my life in lounge clothes though. So Joggers (fleece ones at this time of year) t shirt and hoodie is my general outfit, unless I am going out (which varies from 1 to 5 days during an average week.

My BEST PJ days though were when my kids were teens. Every now and then we would have a Pizza Night. Anything up to 6 of their firends would come round. We would eat pizzas and snacks all evening whilst watching a video (Yes it was over 20 years ago) and drinking (they were at least 16 and it was only one or two lagers/ciders. At bed time all the cushions would go on the floor and a mixed group of them would all pull on sleeping bags and kip. I'd retire to bed and then we spent the next day in PJs also watching films and eating pizza.

It only happened 2 or 3 times a year (birthdays etc) and the kids now 40+ remember them with great fondness.

Their friends liked coming to mine as I had a large lounge and being divorced I tended to not treat them like 'children' (their words).

Eeeek! Is that not a pyjama day?? I think a PJ day is just doing what you want instead of a normal everyday routine, with no responsibilites. Have I got it wrong?? 😬😬

Having a pyjama day does not necessarily mean being stuck indoors all day. I'll often enjoy the garden in my PJs. Being a jeans wearer, it's really lovely to feel the breeze ripple my dressing gown around me.

I don't. I think it's grim to stay in pyjamas all day. Feels grubby.

Why is wearing comfy clothes grubby?

DottieUncBab · 15/02/2023 20:12

Definitely put new pyjamas on, although my idea of a pyjama day is to wake up, go for a run, then come back shower and spend the day in pyjamas

I don't wear underwear with my pyjamas. I will also have spent all night in them. I feel dirty if I don't change.
