Alright, she's not really my baby anymore, she's 11, and she wanted a dramatic change, but oh my word, all those years of washing and brushing and plaiting...and now look!!

(We're donating the hair.)

My dd has cropped hair and is always, always mistaken for a boy, she is 16 now.
She just rolls her eyes 😁

To reassure you, my eldest has been shaving her hair since she was 11 and she's never been mistaken for a boy. Her 11yr old brother with long hair is misgendered all the time though (he doesn't care!).

What a brilliant thing she's done. I bet you'll do a double take every time you see her for a few days yet.

Oh I don't actually care, I just wanted to make sure she was prepared in case she does! She's not at all feminine, dresses in plain, unisex clothes and has no interest whatsoever in beauty products or anything like that, so the long hair was the only "girly" thing about her. She's a real-life Jo March.

And here she is post-cut, as a PP requested:

I love this, such a brilliant girl 💖

Coxspurplepippin · 10/02/2023 18:02

Love her new cut. What a kind and generous girl she is.

There seem to be quite a few girls starting to wear their hair short again and they look so great.

LadyVictoriaSponge · 10/02/2023 18:02

When I was a little girl back in the 70’s it wasn’t unusual at all for girls to have short hair, I remember requesting a purdy when I was 7 but went even shorter, never mistaken for a boy. We really seem to have regressed in society, that to be recognised as female you should have long hair.

Nice to see a girl willing to stand out for the styles she likes. There is much less individual looks these days, so nice to see this.

StuffYouAllInTheCrust · 10/02/2023 18:09

What a lovely thing to do - and her new cut looks fab!

My 9 year old has hair past her bottom and once she decides to change we’ll be donating it to the little princess trust. I’m excited and scared for that day!

Ludoole · 10/02/2023 18:09

What a beautiful thing to do, donating such lovely hair!
I'm sure it will be a big adjustment for you, but she looks great with the new cut!
As long as she loves her new look, it's good all round! What a lovely post!

Colourinsidethelines · 10/02/2023 18:14

It’s a lovely thing to do! My DD has alopecia areata and has quite significant hair loss so it’s lovely that when she is older if she choses she can have a wig made of beautiful hair donated by the kindness of other children. So lovely!

dontgobaconmyheart · 10/02/2023 18:16

Good for her and a wonderful donation for someone in need. Glad that she's happy with the change - I've never had the guts to go for it with my own hair but have always, always wanted to so your DD is very inspiring in that respect - good on her!

Mariposista · 10/02/2023 18:19

What a fab, selfless girl!

AnotherVice · 10/02/2023 18:19

Oh and now we're all crying 😭

AperolWhore · 10/02/2023 18:51

@29052022J shes going to make some little girls dreams come true with that donation. You’re raising a fabulous girl x

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 10/02/2023 19:19

I've just measured the cut hair for the donation form - it's over half a metre long!

Just to warn you in a light-hearted way - I was slightly older than your daughter when I got my previously waist-length hair chopped into a short crop.

The morning after, I came out of the bathroom and bumped into my mother, who actually jumped and squeaked in fright - she thought there was a strange girl in her house. 😁

AffIt · 10/02/2023 19:32

PS - I love your user name, do you carry your bassoon at all times?!

Never am I separated from my bassoon!

It's the clingy type.

😂😂😂

Then you may tootle it!

underneaththeash · 10/02/2023 19:53

Wow - that’s a huge amount of hair / I don’t think I’ve grown that much in my 45 years!

Blablablablaba · 10/02/2023 20:05

Aw what beautiful hair. Well done they will make some beautiful wigs with all that hair. Well done!

I did the same around that age. Went from hair down to my bum to just above shoulders. I remember the hairdresser making a big deal of it, asking if I wanted to keep the hair and I looked at her like she had 2 heads (and said no). Shame I wasn't aware there were any places to donate it to back then.

AutumnalLeaves38 · 10/02/2023 20:07

Just think, YOUR super daughter's generosity will be making another child as joyful as the lovely girl in this 3 minute clip:
