Lighthearted- if you could choose, which month of the year would you have your baby in?

Title speaks for itself.

I know the majority of people don’t have the luxury of choice, but wondered what season of the year would be popular and why.

September so they went to school as old as possible, not too close to xmas, old enough to enjoy the summer and like the idea of snuggling up with a new born over winter

LookItsMeAgain · 09/02/2023 19:16

May or June.

I have Sept and Dec kids. I'd have loved for summer babies but I guess Christmas and St Patrick's weekend have a lot to answer for! 😉😉😆😆😆😆

Fairylightsandstuff · 09/02/2023 19:17

September so they’re the oldest int he class!

I have 8 kids and two step children so we have birthdays in most months of the year!

Kitcaterpillar · 09/02/2023 19:17

April.

You're not heavily pregnant in deep winter or mid-summer.

Nice weather is coming, easy to get out and about on mat leave and don't have to start bundling up until they're 7 or 8 months.

Solid mid-school year baby.

Birth month with a fun long weekend in it.

mamabear715 · 09/02/2023 19:19

April / May - and five of my seven were. :-)
My parents slipped up - who wants a January birthday? :-(

littlebirdieblu · 09/02/2023 19:20

September like pp have said as they would be the oldest in the class. My July born son really struggled at school when he started as he just wasn't ready.

MeinKraft · 09/02/2023 19:20

May-July are good months to have babies, you can sit around with your boobs out without feeling chilly, can take baby out and about without worrying about snowsuits and the like. Less washing because you don't need 5000 layers on them that need changed every time they sick milk over themselves.

wanttoshareyouropinion · 09/02/2023 19:21

My DC are all May/June, which is what I wanted. The best and nicest months of the year.

CastleTower · 09/02/2023 19:21

Had my first in September - heavily pregnant in am August heatwave is no fun! Also has ended up slightly weird that some of her playmates will be off to school a whole year before her.

Just had my second at beginning of Feb, and autumn/winter pregnancy was loads easier. Also it's a nice thought that things will be getting lighter and warmer as we get out of the house more, rather than darker and colder and more difficult!

So I'd say March could be ideal from that point of view.

Unicorn2022 · 09/02/2023 19:21

Out of all my kids I prefer my DD2's birthday in mid July. She is among the younger kids in her class so has always had to push herself. When she was born it was quite warm so I didn't have to bundle her up or put on rain clothes to go out in the pram. She always gets a good turnout for her birthday parties as it's just before the summer holidays. DS is during the holidays and DD near Christmas so more awkward to hold parties.

tulipsunday · 09/02/2023 19:22

March would be my top choice

sunshineandshowers40 · 09/02/2023 19:22

May

Cuppa2sugars · 09/02/2023 19:24

i was the eldest in the class and i hated it. i would choose a May child as the weather can be nice for their birthdays, and you’re not heavily pregnant when the weather is hot.

fossil24 · 09/02/2023 19:25

August - you save a whole year of childcare fees

Lelophants · 09/02/2023 19:25

I’ve always liked the idea of a September baby. Or end of Feb, March or April. They also fit nicely with our other birthdays and are good times of year for academia and being further from Christmas imo.

justwantobeamum · 09/02/2023 19:26

Ds is April and actually it’s not that good. A newborn and a hot summer don’t mix. I spent summer sat on the sofa breastfeeding us both in as little as possible with a fan pointed at us. He hated the pram as a young baby and would only contact nap so my maternity leave was not sitting outside in the sun while baby napped as I had envisaged.

SchoolTripDrama · 09/02/2023 19:26

May/June. I had my baby in January and aside from the nightmare of her birthday being within the same pay period as Christmas(!) wrapping yet more presents so soon is tedious.
More importantly though, my poor DD has to wait 11 months for more presents! Yet when I was a kid, my birthday was in the summer holidays. I feel for her, having a January birthday will be crap for her as a teen

SnakeOiler · 09/02/2023 19:26

April.

Bigbouncingbaby · 09/02/2023 19:26

March / April so the long nights are less long and lighter ! I had an October baby so had to go through the whole winter of dark nights . It must be so much easier in lighter nights . My second was born early jan and frankly that’s just a rubbish birthday 🤦‍♀️

SpaceJamtart · 09/02/2023 19:27

Mine are all October born, so am I.
It wasn't on purpose but I do think its a nice time of year to be born.
I would have preferred to be less pregnant in the summer though- I had twins first and was massive and uncomfortable in a very hot august/september. Although being able to waft about in maxi dresses (tents) was pretty nice.

Mummydoctor · 09/02/2023 19:27

We planned ours (and were v lucky to conceive straight away) so that they were born in March and April. Was heavily pregnant in winter which caused no problems and never had to deal with swollen ankles/feet etc. could also easily layer up clothes in pregnancy. They weren’t tiny newborns in their first winter, the long nights didn’t feel so bad when it gets light early and you can get out with them easily when babies. It’s been perfect for being mid year in the school year, and as they are swimmers they are some of the older ones (as they are classed as age at the end of the year so the Sept- Dec babies are disadvantaged when they compete).

Agree January is crap !!!!!

goldbraids · 09/02/2023 19:28

I would have liked a Christmas baby. I imagine it to be so special.

2reefsin30knots · 09/02/2023 19:28

January so they are at the older end of the school year and oldest in the junior/ youth sport year.

However, my own DS is August 🙄

Led9519 · 09/02/2023 19:28

Autumn. Had mine in November, by the time you’ve got the newborn months out the way it’s spring and good for school too.
