Lighthearted- if you could choose, which month of the year would you have your baby in?

Title speaks for itself.

I know the majority of people don’t have the luxury of choice, but wondered what season of the year would be popular and why.

I have march, April and July. I preferred march and April to July, having them in the spring meant we were heading into the warmer weather and seemed to have months of nice days for getting out with the pram whereas July you're heading out.
Work and maternity leave-wise then April has been perfect, our holidays run march to April so as I hadn't used any when I went on mat leave I've been able to add 7 weeks annual leave on to the end.

sendbackaletterfromamerica · 09/02/2023 20:11

No-one will say January. Mine are both January. Awful month for birthdays but so grateful I hand them❤️❤️

Xmasbaby11 · 09/02/2023 20:13

March

not January like both of mine!

Crumpetdisappointment · 09/02/2023 20:13

i always said no to september,
they would be more than ready for school!

perhaps october, and march, april, may june

Whitewolf2 · 09/02/2023 20:17

I had Feb and July births and much preferred Feb, it was horrid to be very pregnant and give birth in mega heat! Then was super sweaty breastfeeding too!

I’d chose Feb again as could hibernate with baby in early days and it means they’re not youngest or oldest in year when starting school.

mamaduckbone · 09/02/2023 20:20

September so they are nearly 5 when they start school. My September baby ended up being a July baby which is lovely for summer birthday parties but he's suffered for being one of the youngest all the way through school.

Beezknees · 09/02/2023 20:21

My only child is February, quite a good time of year age wise as he's not the oldest or the youngest, sort of in the middle.

Shit weather though especially for parties when he was younger. May is a nice month.

stargirl1701 · 09/02/2023 20:28

Summer - July, August & September. I don't live in England so no issues with school starting age. Summer birthday parties are better than any others.

I'm a Winter baby. It's not great.

Teeshirt · 09/02/2023 20:38

September or October. My oldest is September born and my youngest is July born. July child really struggled academically and socially at school.

Shunkleisshiny · 09/02/2023 20:40

Cuppa2sugars · 09/02/2023 19:24

i was the eldest in the class and i hated it. i would choose a May child as the weather can be nice for their birthdays, and you’re not heavily pregnant when the weather is hot.

My son September baby loved being the eldest in the class, especially when he was in sixth form he was the first to pass his driving test and his own car (nothing flash but he was so proud of it)

userxx · 09/02/2023 20:43

I'd love my birthday in June, July or august, I'd have a massive BBQ and invite everyone over. December is not the best month, it's got to be said.

SunshineIndoors123 · 09/02/2023 20:44

March, April or May. No extreme temperatures either way. I was 40 weeks pregnant in the heatwave last July, and it was about 37° the day I gave birth, it was hell.

Roselilly36 · 09/02/2023 20:44

my first DS has a June birthday, perfect, summer birthday parties, and 6 mths til Christmas.

Daisychainsandglitter · 09/02/2023 20:44

DD2's birthday is in October and I always think it's a lovely time of year. She's also one of the eldest in her class. I also think a March/April birthday would also be quite nice.
My other DC's birthday is at the end of August which sucks. No one's ever around for her birthday and she is the youngest in her year.

timetogetlost · 09/02/2023 21:29

January
Newborn snuggles. Emerge for Spring.
Summer with a crawler. First Christmas they are into everything. Earlier in the school year. Cheers up winter. After Christmas, birthday, Imbolc, it’s Spring.
It’s great as a child, term time, see your friends. It is rubbish as an adult though.

Jellycatspyjamas · 09/02/2023 22:09

I’d go for late January/February because they can automatically defer school entry which makes a huge difference going into high school in terms of maturity.

Sugarfree23 · 09/02/2023 22:27

@Jellycatspyjamas that's only Scotland.

Op if you're looking to avoid a specific day, Christmas Eve has to be THE worse day of the year for a Birthday.
Almost guaranteed too mess up your Christmas.
Every year everyone is busy.
It's really hard to give them Birthday presents and then get them excited enough put stuff out for Santa.

Boxing Day everyone is over the hassle of Christmas- same issue with getting everything at the same time though

Jellycatspyjamas · 09/02/2023 22:28

Yes but that’s where I am, and why I’d chose a preferred birth month. Or was the question only for English posters?

Mummyme87 · 09/02/2023 22:30

I have a mid January and an early July. I would love March - May

daffodilandtulip · 09/02/2023 22:31

Both mine are March. Not planned.

It wasn't a bad time to be pregnant, had the first Christmas on mat leave, they can have summer/garden presents for their birthday, reasonably mid year academically.

Eatentoomanyroses · 09/02/2023 22:32

A spring baby would be nice. Winters not great because the nights are long. Summer born is tricky for school.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 09/02/2023 22:33

Feb / March.

Slap bang in the middle of the school year so none of the oldest or youngest down sides.
Good for sports which are generally calendar year based.
Good for nursery fees as you get the 30 free hours from 1st April.

thaegumathteth · 09/02/2023 22:40

April

Would be one of oldest in year at school, wouldn't be pregnant in height of summer, potential for nice weather on birthday and when they're tiny.

thaegumathteth · 09/02/2023 22:46

Incidentally the oldest in the school year choice isn't really for when they're little it's because ds who is a Xmas baby and Dd who is September will both still be 17 when they finish school. Ds won't even be 17 1/2. For that reason I wish I'd deferred him.

4thonthe4th · 09/02/2023 22:48

July / August. I’m an august birthday and love it! 2 of my DC are July & August. The others are December & January. Those 2 got the short straw :(
