Where is the absolute best beach in the U.K.?

and why is it the best?

Would like some ideas for where I’ve missed and where I must go. A bucket and spade list.
( Children grown and flown. Got some dogs. Camping good. Like quiet and big skies and peace)

I have a very soft spot and fond memories of Oxwich bay. sand dunes. BBQs and sleeping out. Shooting stars. Miles of empty sand.

You mentioned camping.

Well, Porth Joke, aka Polly Joke, near Newquay. You can camp there. And I can't imagine anywhere really beats Holywell. Next beach along.

And- you can actually swim in summer without a hypothermia- resuscitation team at hand....

Haha @Cheeseandlobster ds2 spent last summer working in Pembs and spent a lot of time at Skrinkle, swimming round the rocks from Church Doors 😯

My fave is a bit further along 😀

Ooh so I was close (ish). I meant to mention Broadhaven too on my post but forgot. Pembrokeshire is just so very beautiful

Waxham in Norfolk, all those saying Holkham need to edge a little further around the coast as it gets wilder and less swanky. Waxham is a secret dream…

IMO Cornwall is massively over rated apart from lusty glaze. The locals seem to resent you being there and it’s just packed. We stopped going. My fav is sandbanks - it is the closest to Australia in terms of golden sand and clear water.

Emmamoo89 · 08/02/2023 23:04

Isles of Scilly far the best. Love Cornwall and Dorset too.

SoftSheen · 08/02/2023 23:06

Holkham (Norfolk)
Kynance or Porthcurnow (Cornwall). All stunning.

Mulhollandmagoo · 08/02/2023 23:06

No suggestions really as we mainly stick to our local north Yorkshire beaches, which whilst we love them - I definitely don't think they're the best in the country. But I do want to say how amazing your life sounds 😍 hope you find some gems!

AdaColeman · 08/02/2023 23:10

Marloes Sands Pembrokeshire. Stunningly beautiful.

KnickerlessParsons · 08/02/2023 23:10

Rhossili without a doubt

Daisymaybe60 · 08/02/2023 23:14

Well it's the North East England beaches for me. I didn't appreciate them enough when I lived there and my parents would take us over to Blackpool and Morecambe on holiday every summer just so that they could say the coast there was nowhere near as nice as ours.

Porthmeor and Porthminster, St Ives, especially at sunset when they're relatively empty.

sizeofahippo · 08/02/2023 23:18

This one, but I can't tell you where it is as I don't want to share!

Cornchip · 08/02/2023 23:19

Portrush Whiterocks Strand. Easily.

sizeofahippo · 08/02/2023 23:19

Oh, wrong picture!!
Although this is a nice beach too 🤦🏼‍♀️

buddhasbelly · 08/02/2023 23:20

@Snippysocks I can confirm the sea is indeed that colour - due to microscopic marine algae

Unfiltered photo looking round to luskentyre attached. It gets more turquoise than this photo

Brancaster.

MajorCarolDanvers · 08/02/2023 23:23

Most of the coast of Scotland. Particularly the islands.

Cattersty sands or Hunamby gap are the best in Yorkshire.

Just don't tell anyone else.

I've been to Hummanby Gap and it is spectacular.

sunglassesonthetable · 08/02/2023 23:24

It's always Barafundle for me.

Just sublime.

Lightsoutallout · 08/02/2023 23:27

I live in a cottage next to the sea in Northumberland in a little coastal village around 10 mins from Alnwick. As everyone says, Bamburgh is beautiful but it is busy. For me, the best beach round here is Warkworth beach. There is a free carpark and sand dunes and a huge stretch of sandy beach which is rarely busy as tourists don't really seem to know about it.
Second best is Alnmouth beach for me but the free parking there is limited and it can get busy in the summer months.

TheLongpigs · 08/02/2023 23:29

White rocks in Portrush NI. Perfection.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 08/02/2023 23:31

Newborough in Anglesey

Also Aberffraw and Rhosneigr - and Penmon Point.

thegreylady · 08/02/2023 23:32

The Northumberland coast has some beautiful beaches with Bamburgh the most spectacular. My personal favourite is Low Newton.

Woolacombe in Devon goes on for miles
