What are these lines in these fields?

Spotted on Apple maps. The field in the red circle is a solar farm so ignore that, but what about the surrounding fields with those random lines all over the place? Confused

Has anyone noticed that I've answered the question (twice), or are my posts actually invisible or something?

Surely too numerous to be archaeological test pits?

I don’t know if you’ve noticed though but in the bit with a red circle there seems to be a solar farm…

Solar panel farm

The solar panels are in the red circle. They are not placed randomly like that anyway.

Thank you @Cupcakequeen75
😂

The fields that are outside the red circle are a solar farm. So it's likely to be trenching and other such things. BP has their plans online for the extension of the solar farm into those fields.

pigsinoodies · 03/02/2023 18:17

The land's earmarked for an extension to the solar farm. The trenches will be part of the archaeological survey they were ordered to have carried out as a condition of the planning permission.

MudLady · 03/02/2023 18:19

They could be archaeological test pits... there are crop marks in a couple of the fields, evidence of something that was previously there. You can see them better on Google maps if you zoom in.

iklboo · 03/02/2023 18:25

Could be archaeological test trenches or a soil viability test for the solar panel farm that we definitely can't see 😂

Solar farm. See zoomed in pic.
All over the countryside now and lots more coming!

Oops 😬

Now I've seen the picture, yes they are definitely archaeological trenches. They do that before developers can build now, otherwise ancient hitherto undiscovered sites would be destroyed forever.

Thank you, I've seen these, always near a new development, and I wondered what they were. I thought they can't all be soil samples but archaeological trenches make sense now.

That's a solar farm tho?

NOT THE SOLAR FARM!

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 04/02/2023 15:54

You know, in hindsight, maybe I should've just scribbled out the solar farm 🤣🤣🤣
