Do you own an Apple Watch?

If so could you tell me how often you need to charge it and what model it is?

Im looking at buying one but the 18 hours before it needs recharging is putting me off.

Mine is a 2 year old SE, I charge it over night (no interest in sleep tracking). Been wearing it since 7am and its on 44% but I have used it for 2 hours of exercise tracking today and use it constantly to stop, start, pause, rewind audio books or whatever I'm listening to on my phone. I didn't actually look at alternatives because I can't imagine they do everything the apple watch does and work so seamlessly with my other apple devices.

TheChosenTwo · 03/02/2023 19:28

Wow, I pretty much answered this exact same question on here yesterday!!
I got a new one for Christmas, it seems to last 2 days but I do charge it overnight. Bloody annoying as the previous one I had had a usb cable and this one has a micro usb cable, can I find any plug with one of those tiny slots? Can I fuck 😤 currently having to make do with using dhs phone charger, unplugging his cable and sticking my watch one in. Actually will just order a new plug now.

Series 4. I charge it overnight and usually put it on around 6.30-7 am. The battery’s pretty low by the time I take it off around 11, and it sometimes conks out earlier than that.

urrrgh46 · 03/02/2023 19:32

i have a series 8 and it actually could have saved my life (i kid you not but that's a side). Battery is fine. i charge it twice a day for about 20 mins each time and it never gets below 50%.

urrrgh46 · 03/02/2023 19:32

i wear mine overnight as i need to keep an eye on my heart rate.

urrrgh46 · 03/02/2023 19:34

Battery currently at 70% having been at 100 at 9am this morning.

Led92 · 03/02/2023 19:38

I’ve still got my series 3, 5 years old!
it lasts a day and a half. I have changed some setting to optimize battery life and works pretty well. I do a lot of steps though as opposed to tracking specific exercise when I track a workout I get a day out of the battery.
I also mainly use it to ping my phone when I can’t find it!!!

corcaithecat · 03/02/2023 19:41

I’ve got a series 6 watch and charge it every other day but don’t wear it overnight.

SeasonsBleatings · 03/02/2023 19:43

I absolutely love mine. I have a mini charger in the kitchen as well as the regular one by my bed so I tend to charge it in the bedroom when I have my evening bath or in the kitchen when I get up and am making my breakfast etc. I sleep in mine for the tracker otherwise I'd charge it then.

DillDanding · 03/02/2023 19:44

I don’t know what series mine is. It’s about a year old.

I charge it overnight with other devices on one of those docking stations that charges everything. I don’t wear it in bed as the green light on the back of the face wakes me up.

RDAnna · 03/02/2023 19:45

It's annoying at first but you get used to it. I put it on charge when I watch telly in the evening. In the morning when I shower I stick it on charge again. That's all it needs.
Or you can just put it on charge overnight

Fallstar · 03/02/2023 19:47

I have a series 6 and wear it all day and night. I charge it when I get up in the morning while I shower and get ready.

It's usually around 38% when I put it on charge in the morning and takes an hour and a half-ish to fully charge.

I track workouts every day and wouldn't be without it!

Kangarude · 03/02/2023 17:01

Series 8. I wear it through the day and every night. I charge it every evening when I'm just sitting. An hour and it's fully charged

This. If I charge it for an hour while I’m working then it’s charged for the day and night. I like to wear it at night for the sleep tracking and the gentle tap thing it does instead of the piercing alarm on my phone.

I know you're not asking for alternatives, but I switched from an Apple Watch to a Garmin and it's amazing. Would never go back. Lasts almost a week without charging too.

Whereas I switched from a Garmin to an Apple Watch (Series 8) and the only thing Garmin does better is hold its charge and cost less. My Apple 8 blows it out of the water in every other aspect. I am seriously impressed. I wasn't expecting to like the Apple THIS much but wow!

I charge mine in the morning while I'm showering (or when I'm sitting at my desk having coffee if I'm wfh) and again in the evening when I'm winding down before bed (I wear it for sleep tracking).

ManyNameChanges · 05/02/2023 10:45

Thank you all again.
im looking at the AW for the health features (sleep and heart tracking) so will need to wear at night too.
But charging it once fir 1 or 2 hours or twice for half an hour sounds quite manageable (I’ll need a routine for it though). That very reassuring

I have a fairly ancient s3. I probably have to charge it every other night but it recharges much more quickly than a phone. I love mine, though the fitness tracker is fairly basic compared to most of the fitbits.
overall it’s better though and more durable, IMO.

Same here in fact I would say the phone pinging is one of the best features for me (after fitness tracking), use it all the time !

StillWantingADog · 05/02/2023 10:53

Op it you have a reasonable and regular commute then Charging in the car is a good option as long as you have usb ports in the car. No steps to track there!

slamfightbrightlight · 05/02/2023 10:55

The most annoying thing about switching to AppleWatch from Fitbit (after the poorer battery life) is that it doesn’t display your steps on the main screen.

whoruntheworldgirls · 05/02/2023 10:58

Series 6, charge roughly every 18hrs

Gymmum82 · 05/02/2023 10:59

I charge mine overnight every day

Passmethecrisps · 05/02/2023 11:01

Mine is a 5 and I wouldn’t be without it. I have never made use of the sleep feature but reading this makes me want to try.

I charge mine over night and find that it needs it. I use mine an awful lot for checking emails when I am out and about at work so I don’t make use of any battery save feature. I did have to turn off the feature which tells me to breathe and the one which warns me my heart rate has gone up - not great when that pops up during a tense meeting
