How often do you pay for self care luxuries?

Today I had an hour to kill before picking DS up from nursery and decided to go for a cheap manicure, the first time in years.

I’ve been to the hairdresser twice in the last 7 years, I have my eyebrows waxed once every few months, and that is it.

When I was in the nail salon regulars were in and out having treatments and it got me thinking that maybe I’ve let myself go.

I left my job last year to look after DS and DP went back to work full time. When we were both working we both did part time but worked out our income would only be marginally less if I quit and he went back full time.

It is “our money” and he would never have a problem with me treating myself but of course when i haven’t worked for the money, I would never have big blow outs.

What are your circumstances and how often do you pay for things like this for yourself?

Sorry, you also asked for circumstances, I retired at 50 2 years ago so I’m making up for all the years I ran around like a headless chicken neglecting doing things for me.

I haven’t had a haircut for a few years (it was clippered short for a while and now I’m growing it). I don’t do nails/beauty treatments/fillers etc.

I buy fairly decent skincare (only Cerave/The Ordinary so not expensive brands!) and I guess my other occasional ‘self care’ indulgences are sportswear/equipment/race entries and an audible subscription!

I work 0.8 and (half joke) I need the extra day to keep on top of all my beauty treatments! I also work because I want to have these things.

Hair extensions every 10 weeks
Highlights every 6 weeks
Eye lashes every 4 weeks
Nails every 3 weeks
Eyebrows when I notice them
Gym membership
Dyson Hair wrap - which was a big expense but makes me look like I have had my hair ‘done’ every day.

My husband works full time. I'm part time around school hours.

Hair - Every 6 weeks

Brows - Every 6 weeks

Lashes - 3 weeks
Nails - 3 weeks.

Pedicure 6 weekly spring and summer. Probably 2-3 months over winter.

Finding spare time to fit the appointments in isn't always easy.
