They are newborn to 2 years. Would you buy them and if so may I ask how much you would pay.

Sorry I wouldn't buy them.

bussteward · 30/01/2023 14:44

They’re adorable! Our local hospital shop sells donated hand-knitted hats like these for £1 each. Knowing how short a lifespan a newborn hat has I’m not sure I’d pay more than a pound or two, but I’d certainly buy them.

You could crochet a contrasting flower to put on each one & call them 'teddy hats'. That feels a better fit to me.

Happygone · 30/01/2023 14:50

£2?

Headabovetheparakeet · 30/01/2023 14:50

You won't get enough to cover the time and costs involved in making them.

Ohdearnotagain76 · 30/01/2023 14:50

What are the insides like, I ask as I nearly brought a knitted item before but the insides were terrible finished . As they stand £1.50, can you do matching pram blankets or something to go with them?

ChilliBandit · 30/01/2023 14:50

I am not a fan sorry. DC received some from his grandmothers we have kept because they made them, but they were never worn except for a quick photo.

CakeCrumbs44 · 30/01/2023 14:52

If all the money is going to charity, I would buy one for a few £. I don't think they're good enough to sell for profit, sorry.
I would recommend doing a "suggested donation" or "pay what you like" tin, some people will be more generous that way if it's for charity.

Soubriquet · 30/01/2023 14:52

I don’t personally like knitted items. A lot of people these days aren’t keen.

However, 50p-£1.50 might sell them

Spudlet · 30/01/2023 14:53

They’re sweet, but I don’t think I’d pay for them. If I was going to buy a hat, I’d want a finer knit and / or different colours - I find those a bit garish and they do look like something I could knock out myself in a fairly short space of time.

I would look at patterns like this, for example, and look at more neutral colours: www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/baby-bear-hat-8

Those ones are perhaps something you could donate to your local maternity ward? DS had a very similar hat plonked onto his head when he was first born, then when we left they look it back, presumably to wash and reuse. I’m sure they’d find a good use in a similar place and be very much appreciated!

WomanFromTheNorth · 30/01/2023 14:54

I think they're lovely. I would buy one if they are soft and not scratchy and I'd pay up to about £6/7. I wouldn't pay more because they don't last for long. But they are very sweet hats. Ignore the miserable posters.

mintdaisy · 30/01/2023 14:55

I think the pink one with the bow is really lovely and would buy it.

florentina1 · 30/01/2023 14:56

Thanks. I am glad I asked. They did not really cost anything. Just from scraps to pass away am idle hour. I was thinking of taking them to a charity shop. I think they are more suited to dolls hats.

It seems nowadays that a lot of babies are dressed in neutral colours so no I don’t think anyone would buy them and some of the styles are not in keeping with how babies are dressed today

As an ardent crocheter they look like left over yarn has been used because of the colours.

Have a look at neutral coloured yarn and more contemporary or plain styles.

Juat my opinion about colours and styles and not knocking your skills.

Tamarindtree · 30/01/2023 14:57

I’ve made these in neutral colours and they went down well.

And these -

ToastAndButler · 30/01/2023 15:00

They are definitely good enough but as PP said you'll get more interest with neutral colours. Some people won't buy knitted hats at all but obviously that's not your target market.

CatJumperTwat · 30/01/2023 15:01

They're cute but very old fashioned and not trendy at the moment. But I can see some of my elderly relatives buying them at £2.

Johnnysgirl · 30/01/2023 15:02

They're really sweet.

sammielouise · 30/01/2023 15:02

Your local maternity unit would be grateful for these I'm sure! We had one for each of my babies - donated to the ward, they were the first thing they ever wore and I've still got them! Smile

Orangesare · 30/01/2023 15:02

Does your local maternity unit put knitted hats on newborns? Ours does and they always want knitted hats. The hats have to be knitted/crocheted from acrylic not cotton apparently.

GallantGus · 30/01/2023 15:03

They’re lovely and yes a shame people don’t use things like this for babies anymore!

put a “sustainable/eco” label on and bump the price up! Shame that people will prefer to buy yet more new stuff in neutral colours probably shipped over from China

NowDoYouBelieveMe · 30/01/2023 15:08

Very sweet and cheerful colours. I would get one, and would pay a few quid as they are handmade, and it's for charity.

I personally do not get the appeal of pretend ears on bland beige baby hats. Ok for dress up I guess but a bit tacky otherwise.

ShoesIBoughtYouAsAPresent · 30/01/2023 15:11

I like the bottom left and the top right, the others look too old fashioned imho.
