They are newborn to 2 years. Would you buy them and if so may I ask how much you would pay.

They look fine but for a newborn I only used very soft cotton, sorry. I wouldn’t put either wool or polyester/acrylic on a newborn head personally.

EzzieM · 30/01/2023 16:53

They could work better for dolls?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 30/01/2023 16:57

I think that currently, people want beiges and taupes and browns, not mint green and butter yellow - the pompoms are also a choking hazard, as they lose threads very easily.

I was amazed by the knitting that DP's Auntie donates to the local hospital to sell or give to preemies (she lost a baby in her twenties and never conceived again, so has done this for the last fifty years) - the quality of her work, being intricate lace patterns in current colours, all designed to be super soft and at the same time never catch a tiny finger, is superb. Her items sell for £3.50 each because that's the maximum that people are prepared to pay for a handknitted hat, even if it is custom made for particular weights and love (and pain, I think) goes into every stitch.

Or for baby blankets look at places like Mama's and Papa's for colour/design inspiration.
When my son was little I was obsessed with an M&P striped pram blanket. It was far too expensive though and I didn' know how to knit or crochet then. If I'd seen something similar at a craft fayre I'd have snapped it up!

Rowthe · 30/01/2023 17:01

I would not buy them

Squirrelsnut · 30/01/2023 17:02

I like them overall but would prefer softer colours ( not neutrals though).

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 30/01/2023 17:17

If you want to use up oddments, Op (and anyone else), Google Oxford University Hospitals Twiddle Muffs - pre covid I made several for my local hospital for patients with dementia.

The pattern uses two strands of DK or one of chunky, on nice fat needles - you can intersperse them and use a whole rainbow of different colours.,

Cuppasoupmonster · 30/01/2023 17:25

They’re a bit old fashioned - the colours are kind of garish and the style something not many people would choose now.

What do seem to sell well are chunky beanie type hats for newborns in more subtle or jewel colours, like these

The patterns are nice OP but as others have said, the colours aren't really 'in' at the moment.

If you made them in a softer colour/ maybe a better quality yarn, they would definitely be saleable!

nowtherearethree · 30/01/2023 17:37

Yes x

bussteward · 30/01/2023 17:43

They’re not for commercial profit sale though; it’s for charity. Personally I like an old-fashioned knitted thing on babies – brighter the better and very sweet versus the depressing neutral beige and brown Sad Child pieces.

Needmorelego · 30/01/2023 17:44

I think they are adorable and I'd buy one.
The first thing my mum did when I announced I was pregnant was knit a teeny tiny cardigan.
My baby was born a little tiny thing so she had to knit a even more teeny tiny one. It's the most adorable thing ever.
I love knitted baby clothes.

Viviennemary · 30/01/2023 17:48

No. The pink one with the bow is probably the best one apart from the colour. But no harm in trying.

Who the hell would put those on a newborn?

Needmorelego · 30/01/2023 20:30

@Johnnysgirl people that want to keep little bald heads warm I assume (or did you mean those dull looking beanies?)

The beanies, not op's ones.

@Johnnysgirl oh good. I much prefer the homemade ones. So cute 🙂

Wow. Ignore the people on here who are talking outdated nonsense please about knitted hats being outdated. Harry Styles is wowing the crowds wearing knitted patchwork squares, it will all be coming back into the mainstream!

They are more than good enough to sell. They’re adorable. Especially if you are selling these in a busy town. People whether they are fashiony or not really like the look of baby handknits because it makes their baby look very cared-for in a lovely way, but they often don’t have the time or skills or confidence to make these things themselves, I have found.

Personally I would pay up to £3 for my own small baby hat at that age or a max of £5 for a gift for a friend’s baby (but then I’d also want a pretty paper bag to wrap it in so it’s a complete ready-to-give gift, if you can do that), so maybe have some different price options for more complex designs?

I like your range of colours- you could make some in brights, some pastels, some muted colours and then everyone will be happy.
I’d also like it if you could add a little paper label pinned to it saying 0-3 months or whatever size it is, what the fabric is you’ve knitted it with and something cute like ‘knitted for your new baby by Florentina1’ or whatever feels like a nice message for you to include. This will be a special little purchase for a lot of your buyers Flowers

I think it’s quite interesting that hospitals seem to take different approaches to the whole hat thing. Both of mine had knitted hats when they were born and I’ve seen some hospitals do colour coded knitted hats which implies it is a standard, expected thing if it’s a policy. Must be a lot of knitters out there supplying the hospitals.

IheardYouButDontWantToAnswer · 30/01/2023 20:55

I don't like hand-knitted clothing of any kind.

Those are adult colours, not for a baby.

What are ‘adult colours’? Confused

AtticusFrost · 30/01/2023 21:34

Muted sludgy colours.
