I have never tried haggis - what does it taste like? Quite fancy trying the traditional Scottish Burns Night supper, minus the whisky as not really a fan.

Burns Night aside, another good introduction to haggis if you're unsure is a starter portion of haggis medallions or bonbons or bits or bites or whatever they're called this week that you find at pubs in Scotland (and sometimes elsewhere). Some incorporate neeps and/or tatties into the bites, some come with them as accompaniments - or at least with chips - and some are just the haggis and some condiments.

Don't order whisky to drink if you hate it, but DO try the whisky cream sauce that usually comes as a dipping sauce with these: it's a great combo of sweet and savoury that complements the peppery, spicy, nutty, game-y meat. And if you don't like it, you've got all the regular pub condiments to fall back on.

My mum used to make a steamed meat roll which had a recipe similar to the Aberdeen Sausage one; she was an Aberdonian, but she just called it meat roll.

For what is worth, I love a mealie pudding, and black pudding. Detest meat haggis for the smell.

I will just celebrate with a buttery instead.

Yay, someone outside my family knows what this is!

Maybe it's only called Aberdeen sausage when you're nowhere near Aberdeen.

I forgot about cock-a-leekie, might have to make that for old times sake.

I again brought a frozen haggis back from M&S (I am in the tropics) still frozen when I arrived back. I prefer it to any other brand its not to strong with offel.

So tonight will be a treat, no neeps here so will have to make do with carrots mashed, but with tatties and gravy (thank god for stockpots!) and of course the special 'gravy'!

I threw a Burns Supper at the weekend, and made haggis pakora with the leftover haggis. Now that is a treat!

I stuff a chicken with a haggis, it tastes amazing.

This is balmoral chicken, it’s amazing especially with the creamy, whisky sauce poured over it.
