Films to relieve anxiety please

Hi there,
over Christmas I got ill with flu/sinusitis and also “took stock” of some of the stuff that’s happened to me this year. I’ve ended up having a surge in anxiety including insomnia.

I’m taking care of myself. As part of that I’m being careful what I watch on tv - anything with too much tension is too much. Even watching “The Great” and “He’s Just not that into you” are too much.

films that have worked so far
“the Three Amigos”
Zoolander
Ghosts of Girlfriends Past
Sleepless in Seattle
How to lose a guy in 10 days.

so very silly/bonkers comedies and very gentle “innocent” Romcoms with sexiness a plus!

\in terms of tv shows it’s “Superstore” and Big Bang Theory”. All very gentle.

I’d be grateful for more recommendations whilst things settle.

Handsome Devil.

Totally feel good film, and a bit quirky with a brilliant soundtrack.

Anon132 · 22/01/2023 00:49

All the shreks
Monsters inc
Monsters university
Glass onion knives out
Alice in wonderland
Stardust
Hocus pocus 2
Blended
Friends
One of us is lying
Dead to me

Calamity Jane is my all time favourite film.

I recommend ghosts & detectorists, father Ted, the IT crowd, black books, the white lotus maybe? Or vicar of dibley. We're watching all of these atm

Most of all Shtisel. It's the best thing that's ever been.

blackpearwhitelilies · 22/01/2023 02:50

Little Women - Susan Sarandon one
sense and Sensibility - Emma Thompson one
A Room with a View
Babette’s Feast

Chickenkeev · 22/01/2023 05:09

The West Wing, it's brilliant. I used to stay up all night to watch it. Love it!

Chickenkeev · 22/01/2023 05:12

And fellow anxiety sufferer here, WW was mt escape.

Our flag means death! On iplayer. Silly, funny and just gets incredibly sweet.

Schitts creek and Ghosts. I am not by nature particularly sentimental but both of these have made me cry. I agree with Ted Lasso as well.

If you like Ghosts, the film Bill by the Hh people is very very silly.

Film comedy wise I like the proposal with Sandra Bullock. Also lost city with ms Bullock is funny trash. Many Hugh Grant films.

And i do a lot of rewatching for the same reason as others - it calms down an overactive mind. I'd say Bridgerton or Downton Abbey are good as they are so escapist. Good Omens on Amazon.

To read, again Bridgerton! Or Georgette Heyer for something better written! I like the odd maeve binchy (mostly circle of friends tbh). Or Marion Keyes although the subjects are a bit tricky.

Cabin Pressure is also my happy place. I still like the first few series of my dad wrote a porno as well.

As you can see, I use this technique a lot to help my anxiety and it works well. Warm, familiar and a bit repetitive.

Bank of Dave on Netflix.

Detectorists on BBC I player - a gem !

Notgoodatpoetrybutgreatatlit · 22/01/2023 08:00

Parks and Recreation. You need to keep going as it seems a bit nuts at first. It is so solid in its moral approach. And also very funny.
I'm a teacher and I just watched the whole series of Abbot Elementary in two sittings. The young woman who wrote it really knows schools. Very funny.

Mol1628 · 22/01/2023 08:11

Another vote for detectorists. Really lovely tv. I love the music, the characters, the filmography. Everything.

The kings speech. Re watched this recently when having a bad day, really nice easy going story.

I can't do peril at all now. Korean drama is also good. Second the otiginal French call my agent.

If you have staying power I highly recommend Kdrama The Empress Ki - it’s a whopping 60 odd episodes but it’s very good and probably my favourite kdrama.

She's the Man
Stardust
Confessions of a shopaholic
Wild child
Legally blonde

My top feel good films

PinkBuffalo · 22/01/2023 19:00

I like bob burgers as an easy watch (I like cartoons)

MzMarple · 22/01/2023 19:06

Miss marple and Piorot are easy watching.

Hope you feel better soon op. I use a hot water bottle at night to help my anxiety.

LiveshipParagon · 22/01/2023 19:07

Poirot (with David Suchet) is the best. Engaging, but not too challenging, and totally removed from real life.

Taskmaster and Bridgerton are also pretty good as frivolous, TV when feeling anxious.

If feeling slightly more robust, "Anne With An E" and Detectorists are wonderful, gentle, beautiful programmes, but sometimes make you cry.

Laiste · 22/01/2023 19:14

Encanto
The Croods 1
The Croods 2

Kids films but a good watch. Love it when DD picks them.
Croods 2 particularly funny - but watch 1 first so you know who's who :)

Upfartooearly · 22/01/2023 19:16

Planes, trains and automobiles
Local Hero

WinterFoxes · 22/01/2023 19:21
