What do you have with chilli?

I usually have white rice but a friend seems to think that's very odd? Occasionally a baked potato or just a roll/crusty bread.

What do you serve with it?

OP posts:
mathanxiety · 21/01/2023 21:40

And also corn mufffins.

greenacrylicpaint · 21/01/2023 21:42

with baked potatos or doritos.
rice & beans at a push.
never white rice - that's weird imo.

WarningToTheCurious · 21/01/2023 21:59

Introduce your friend to Cincinnati chili.

It’s chili Jim, but not as we know it.

You're walking a fine line between psychotic and genius! 👩‍🍳

The crinkly cabbage is the best, Savoy.

Honestly, I'm sure it's delicious. Your post would also fit another thread I saw asking what weird food combos you liked.
You've also reminded me of a family dish of creamed cabbage I haven't made in a few years: cabbage chopped into strips along with half an onion chopped same. S&p. Water to steam in roasting pan in over. When soft add whipping cream and cook down until almost absorbed. Old country (Ukraine) recipe poor farmers made (our family, anyway). Also good with added chopped bacon.

OP, sorry for the meander. 😇

I must try this, sounds good

Johnisafckface · 22/01/2023 01:25

usually with white rice. But prefer to have it with cornbread.

TyneTeas · 22/01/2023 01:29

With rice

With baked potato and cheese

With nachos, cheese, yoghurt and salad

In baked peppers with cheese on top

Under potato wedges with cheese on top

In a quesadilla or a toastie with cheese

Pasta bake

Have enjoyed reading replies here!
@LemonDrizzles if you are making chilli dogs surely you are melting cheese on top? 😛
@Hidingawaytoday what's the reason???😋😗
@Getthefiregoing yum!!😋😋I'm with you!

For the others, like me, who would serve with cornbread, would it be sweetened, or not? 🤨
For the record, I'm in the sweetened cornbread camp - especially with spicy chilli! Any American friends here wanting to weigh in?

We'd eat it with boiled new potatoes and roast chicken or pork roast. 😋

FlatPackHarry · 22/01/2023 03:10

I also think rice is odd, but not from the UK originally. I would serve with chips and cheese or cornbread on the side.

mathanxiety · 22/01/2023 05:56

Jiffy corn muffin mix is slightly sweetened. I alwaya use it for muffins to go with chili.

Ponderingwindow · 22/01/2023 06:09

cornbread.

if you really want to blow peoples minds, try chili with sweet pickles. The first time I was offered the option I thought the person was crazy, but I tried and it is amazing.

PritiPatelsMaker · 22/01/2023 07:50

Only ever white rice - didn't know there were other options

I bet your mind had been blown by this thread then @Mother87 Grin

It's definitely your DF that's odd OP.

We have rice or sometimes I make wraps into a bowl and add chilli and salad like these chilli salad bowls and sometimes just tortilla chips.

IHeartGeneHunt · 22/01/2023 07:54

Garlic bread, or (trust me on this) a peanut butter sandwich.

Oldraver · 22/01/2023 14:14

We had coconut rice, the pouch ones. It went well

greenacrylicpaint · 22/01/2023 14:16

I really want cornbread now!
the kind that's similar to a scone, slightly sweet.

I've not tried that, but the spicy w sweet makes sense!

We’ve just finished our dinner of chilli with basmati rice, peas and a bit of grated cheese.

I tend not to criticise other people's food choices, but peas? Chilli with a side of peas?

Lindtcat · 22/01/2023 20:03

Rice or sometimes just tortilla chips. One of my fave meals will be having that tomorrow. I put jalapeños in it. Always with plenty cheese and sour cream. Beautiful

PritiPatelsMaker · 22/01/2023 20:05

After reading this thread I really need chilli so we're having the Hairy Dieters Chilli Salad bowls tomorrow 😋

I thought same! Quintessentially British - obligatory peas! 😊
