What do you have with chilli?

I usually have white rice but a friend seems to think that's very odd? Occasionally a baked potato or just a roll/crusty bread.

What do you serve with it?

homemade potato wedges, chilli on top, then a few squeezes of chilli mayonnaise and finally grated cheese on top melted!! Amazing

FawnFrenchieMum · 21/01/2023 20:19

White rice for me & DD, DH will have rice but prefers chips. DS won’t eat rice with anything!
We usually have a side of cheesy nachos too.
If we have any left over we might have it wity jacket spuds another day.

PositivePants2023 · 21/01/2023 20:19

Rice/nachos/tacos/in wraps so enchiladas/broccoli/wedges/with crusty or garlic bread

With rice/with rice in a wrap
Or
Mould a wrap inside or over a pyrex bowl, put in the oven for a bit and you get a crispy bowl to put it in, mmm

pristinesurfacesGBTD · 21/01/2023 20:22

Strips of buttery cabbage

Unicorn55 · 21/01/2023 20:22

With Rice or Potato wedges, usually nachos on the side and cheese

Pasta bake- Chilli mince mixed in with pasta, cheese on top and grill

Chilli pie - Like a shepherds pie, chilli topped with mash and cheese and grilled

Like enchiladas - chilli mince in a wrap, side by side in dish with cheese on top and grilled

All with guacamole, sour cream and salsa

We love chilli in this house. Chilli pie is my favourite though!

Crikeyalmighty · 21/01/2023 20:22

Either whole grain rice or mashed cooked cauliflower with added quark-and fried garlic - depends if I'm dieting!!

CorvusPurpureus · 21/01/2023 20:23

Rice. (& sour cream, grated cheese, jalapenos etc).

But I usually batch cook double, & the second iteration might be:

  • enchilladas
  • a ton of pasties for lunch boxes
  • shepherd's pie - we like it spicy! So it's often various small leftovers of chilli or bolognese combined together from the freezer
applecatchers36 · 21/01/2023 20:24

Whole grain rice, tortillas, jalapenos, cheese

Hidingawaytoday · 21/01/2023 20:24

We don't usually do rice, but I'd say pretty normal!

I tend to make a big pot, and we'll have it piled into tortilla chips one day, and put into wraps for enchiladas the other day. Always served with salsa, guacamole, sour cream and lots of cheese 🥰. I love a good chilli but there's a reason I don't make it often!

larkstar · 21/01/2023 20:25

Brown rice tastes best with chilli imho - but the way to cook it is to soak it for several hours before you cook it - drain off the water and put n fresh water to cook - it really doesn't take that long - I find it hard to judge brown rice if I don't soak it beforehand - it ends up mushy on the outside and hard in the middle of the grain. We often have baked potatoes, broccoli, peas and sweetcorn with ours.

SouperNoodle · 21/01/2023 20:25

Rice and tortilla chips usually

Strips of buttery cabbage

Whaaaat???? 😱

LemonDrizzles · 21/01/2023 20:27

White rice is normal

Corn bread, quinoa, rice

Also - hot dogs, and topping for nachos

Gagagardener · 21/01/2023 20:32

I eat it with (generally green) veg. I started this when I was doing low carb and discovered ridiculous prices supermarkets charged for cauliflower 'rice' or 'courgetti'. Experimented and discovered that if I put eg brocolli through coarse grater of food processor, then steamed it, I had a delicious and nutritious pile of something on my plate to pour the chilli over. My husband eats his with white rice. We always add grated cheddar, sometimes if it is too 🔥 I stir in plain yogurt; we add soured - or even sour - cream if we have it. Garlic bread used to be another favourite addition, but I only make it now if I need to stretch the chilli. (Too much faff, and it requires the oven to be on.)

Happyher · 21/01/2023 20:33

I make a tortilla bowl by pressing a tortilla into an oven proof bowl or cake tin and bake it for about 7-10 mins at medium heat. It will lift out easily so I then put It on a plate or pasta bowl. Fill it with the chilli topped with nachos and sour cream and then eat the bowl last

billysboy · 21/01/2023 20:35

Nachos spread out on plate , sprinkled with cheese and then grilled until cheese melts
then chilli on top with a side of sour cream and guacamole

Lemonsandlemonade · 21/01/2023 20:35

Rice or chips or sometimes in a wrap

lalaloopyhead · 21/01/2023 20:39

Rice is the standard/normal accompaniment...where is your friend from out of interest?
I love chilli on a jacket spud, DH likes wedges and DD likes it with cheesy chips.
Tortilla chips, guacamole and cheese added to rice option, if available.
Nachos obvs the food of god's but usually only had on non standard meal times.

randomqs · 21/01/2023 20:43

On a jacket sweet potato with cheese

whoruntheworldgirls · 21/01/2023 20:43

I make a double portion, 1 day with rice and pittas, second with a jacket potato

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 21/01/2023 20:45

Only rice here

greenspaces4peace · 21/01/2023 20:47

riced cauliflower.

FeinCuroxiVooz · 21/01/2023 20:48

most often, jacket potatoes. we will make a big pot of chilli enough for several meals, and bake an oven full of jackets, and on subsequent evenings can just use the microwave.
if no jackets then brown rice
very occasionally wedges or nacho chips

dollop of creme fraiche on top.

BluIsTheColour · 21/01/2023 20:48

A side of tortilla chips sometimes with melted cheese on top. My dh also has rice with it but I'm not so keen on it with rice.
