Karcher Window Vac

Morning, does anyone have one of these especially for dealing with window condensation in the mornings?

Is there a particular model you would recommend?

Are they easy and quick to use?

Grateful for any info before purchasing or not!

This is obviously a super unpopular opinion but...

...I hate ours. When we used to go through the laborious business of wiping windows down with kitchen roll at least once it was done, it was done. However with the Karcher it cleans instantly but then all steams back up with about 10 mins.

Every. Single. Time.

So I have to Karcher all the windows about 3 times before work. Drives me crazy.

Obviously doesn't happen to everyone else on this thread so don't know why it happens for me. If I could go back I wouldn't buy it though.

can I tell you a tip? the tank in mine kept getting black mould spores despite me emptying it immediately so I put the tiniest drop off bleach in a film of water in bath for it to suck up so it filled the tank, balanced it over sink, so who tank is full iyswim? shook it periodically then emptied it and it's clear of mould. delighted with myself 😇

We have one, it's really quick and easy to use.

We got on from their refurbished open box sale and it is fantastic. We had a cheaper brand before and the katcher is so much better

That’s less to do with your karcher and more the moisture in your home. Occasionally mine would steam back up (although not like the big blobs of water that form overnight), so now I leave a couple of windows open whilst I’m going round the house hoovering up the glass and it stops it coming back. Just 10-15 mins open seems to do the trick.

QuizteamAguillera · 21/01/2023 10:06

The one from Screwfix is cheaper and has excellent reviews so I went for that one. It’s brilliant!

Marsde · 21/01/2023 10:08

@SquashPenguin Thank you, that's a good idea. We have those window dehumidifier boxes which fill up really fast too. We only moved here about 2 years ago but it seems like the most moisture filled house in the world 🤦‍♀️

That's not due to the window vac, that just removes water it doesn't cause the condensation to reform. Condensation is due to high humidity and low surface temperatures.

Great idea!

CrunchyCarrot · 21/01/2023 10:10

I bought one recently but it was rubbish. Didn't suck up water, in fact left a line of water anywhere I stopped. Was far more trouble than it was worth so sent it back for a refund. Maybe I was doing it wrong or just had a faulty one. I am using a dehumidifier instead which I find is far better and prevents moisture appearing in the first place.

I am off to do this right now.
I don't think my Saturday could get any better.

And another vote for the amazingness of the basic model.

MarshaBradyo · 21/01/2023 10:11

Yes we use it in the mornings now it’s pretty handy

I open the blinds in the mornings and wonder how on earth my house has so much water in it! I’ve had the windows open this morning and even though it’s cold now, they’ve not steamed up again so it definitely helps! I can fill my karcher twice just from the one pane of glass in our bedroom, let alone the rest of the bay window! It’s mental. I have to empty it about five times on a lap of the house! Still, better down the sink than dripping onto the window ledges!

ronswansonstache · 21/01/2023 10:12

I bought a Bosch one on Prime day last year - only £30! I love it. Use it every day

OneToThree · 21/01/2023 10:14

Yes, it’s brilliant.

seperatedmum · 21/01/2023 10:14

@SomersetBrie that's made me laugh out loud and I was in a mood and it's a long time since mumsnet has done that! you have a great Saturday! x

Snorklette · 21/01/2023 10:15

I’ve got the Aldi one. It’s brilliant! I paid £19.99 for it as a Xmas present in Nov 2021 and it was the hit of the year. Still going strong and it’s just sooooo satisfying to use!

Tonsiltrouble · 21/01/2023 10:15

Window vac fans here too. We have two, both WV1. Use after showers and on windows when needed. We do sometimes have issues with having to do more than once but only if house is really humid. We have old single glazed windows so a big job most mornings through winter.

Snorklette · 21/01/2023 10:18

In fact I can hear my husband using it right now. Bastard! 🤨😂

Theraffarian · 21/01/2023 10:28

Mines probably 10 years old or so , blinking fab , comes out every year and just reliably does what it’s supposed to, wish all my household appliances were so compliant!

MarmiteCoriander · 21/01/2023 10:33

We have (I think) the VW5 Karcher. It came with a larger and smaller blade and a spray bottle thing to clean the windows.

We are renovating and been living in a static caravan in the garden. Its single glazed and in winter- the windows are literally dripping water every morning. I mainly use the karcher for condensation- both in the caravan and inside of the car also.

The only negative is that the tank fills up too quickly and to tip the water out- it oftens dribbles out over your fingers. I too put a drop of bleach in periodically to kill any mould. Its brilliant though.

Antaboo · 21/01/2023 10:37

Bosch GlassVac here- it's brill

OhamIreally · 21/01/2023 10:39

Love mine. First one the engine broke and it stopped working so I have bought another.

A tip from me is also if you clean cupboard fronts then use the Karcher to suck the dirty water it gives a great result.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 21/01/2023 10:39

I have the Karchee one with 2 blades so you can get smaller panes done. I do the shower, mirrors, the cooker doors, the hob extractor fan, all the windows (house and car) and the garage door. Love it; probably best black Friday thing I've ever got!
