Micro mini scooter- is foldable worth it?

Hi, I intend to buy a micro scooter for my little one, but they get bored easily and I know I’ll have to carry it! Does anyone have experience of the foldable version and whether it’s easier to carry than the normal one? Thanks in advance

Worth it for me

but I have no idea whether worth it for you based on your financial situation!

Mizydoscape · 20/01/2023 15:11

The normal one is just as easy for an adult to pull along. If you wanted to carry it I could imagine it would be annoying. We also pull our child along when she says she's too tired to scoot or the hill is too steep.

FlounderingFruitcake · 20/01/2023 15:12

Get the pull strap instead. Folded or not it’s a pain to carry.

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated 😊The financial difference isn’t really an issue, it’s the availability of the foldable- local shops don’t stock them and places like John Lewis are sold out, therefore I’d have to wait longer to get one!

Thanks for the tip on pulling them along @Mizydoscape

We shelled out the extra for the foldable one, and I like it because we can fit it under the pushchair easily, even our bugaboo bee which doesn’t have such a large basket. However if you’re not bothered about that then you might be ok just with the carry strap. We ended up getting the strap as well so we can pull DD along when she’s tired.

Try amazon if you’re struggling to find elsewhere

Twilightstarbright · 20/01/2023 15:28

Worth every penny for me.

Amazon have only got one folding - 10 reviews, none of which are from the UK, so I’m concerned it might not be legit

I’ve bought 1 from amazon and it’s definitely legit- there’s a dedicated Micro store on there. The one I bought from there is identical (except they chose a different colour) to my other child’s that was bought direct. I’ve just looked and they have the micro mini folding in 4 colours.

Foldable is heavy, and awkward to carry. So unless you plan to put it under a buggy I wouldn't bother.

I pop the handle up higher and pull it along. Stack two of them as required.

gethaggling · 20/01/2023 16:45

If folding ones had been available when DD had one, I'd definitely have bought it - you can take the others apart, which I ended up doing daily to fit it in a bike pannier. If you're ever going to put it in a bag/pannier/under a buggy, folding is definitely the way forward

BumblebeeWest · 20/01/2023 16:49

Was worth it for us - the folding one is easier for me personally to wrap up and carry than the non-folding one, plus we live in a flat in a block, and the folded scooter slots nicely onto a small shelf above a chest of drawers when we get in!

(If you’re going to hang it from a hook or put it on a shelf, I can recommend sticking up a thin sheet of perspex to protect the wall.)

I chose the wheel lights over folding, which has been useful in the dark winter, but yes we do spend a LOT of time carrying it!

Thanks everyone, appreciate all the responses 😊

The folding one has better balance I. Your hand when you carry it

HalfWomanHalfHobnob · 20/01/2023 17:52

We have the non-folding one with the light-up wheels. It's pretty easy to carry if you buy the strap, which you can loop over the wheel so the whole thing can be slung over your shoulder. The strap is also very handy for towing your child along when they get tired!

For stock issues we bought direct from micro and got a deal on a damaged box. Being chatty and friendly we got a few free extras - a bottle carrier, bell and light in coordinating colours. And the foldable is good because we hang it up to store in the porch.

BumblebeeWest · 21/01/2023 10:14

If you want your scooter to have the LED wheels, Micro sell pairs of them as spare parts and you can (fairly) easily replace the folding model scooter’s front wheels with them. That’s what we did as I couldn’t make up my mind which model would be the best for our needs. So now we have a folding one with light-up wheels. Luckily it was the Christmas present so the extra £25 could just about be justified!

My DS had the foldable one. It fitted into a suitcase so also came on holidays with us.
