Do You Celebrate Valentines Day?

DH isn’t the biggest romantic all year round but I always get 2 dozen red roses & a box of chocolates plus a card. We usually eat a special meal at home but this year DH has actually asked if I want to go out. There’s a lovely Italian place I used to go to years ago with the biggest pepper grinders I’ve ever seen! Plus the waiters had tight black trousers & lovely bums! So think we’ll go there. Maybe not on the actual night as it will be busy.

We usually get each other a card and chocolates. DH might buy me some flowers and he will cook something lovely for dinner once the children are in bed, or we'll have a takeaway.

We've only ever been out on Valentine's Day the first year we dated, we went to an overpriced restaurant for an overpriced set menu, surrounded by other couples crammed in! I'd much rather stay at home

But I "guarantee" you don't refuse the time given off work for those events. And if you don't work I'm sure you observe the holiday with family or friends. So in essence you are celebrating them...

Well I don't observe the holiday, although as my workplace shuts down for bank holidays I don't have any choice as to whether I work them or not. Christmas/Easter means nothing to me.

Not since I got a phone call during our Valentines meal at home to say that my beloved DGM had died.

Just a card.

InFiveMins · 21/01/2023 06:48

No, we don't celebrate it. Not our thing at all.

garlictwist · 21/01/2023 06:53

No. We are very crap on the romance front though!

doctormike · 21/01/2023 07:14

Yes of course because Valentine's Day is a valuable holiday, it's about the connection between loved ones. It should be about quality time, intentionality and devotion to loving one another well.
^^
I celebrate with my medical officials🥰

TellMeWhere · 21/01/2023 07:15

No. I might get him something chocolate if I remember.

Another day where I continued to fight my divorce battle, I threw some flowers out Id bought myself a week ago.
Today, the 15th, flowers will be half price so going to by some fresh.
Being single infinitely preferable to putting up with half baked shit frommen who don't care.

Not really, we used to, but got fed up of spending loads more money on flowers and a meal out than we would any other day of the month. We usually get a card, but DH is not into cards really, so I have given him the same one for the last 3 years.... hasn't noticed yet.

Year 4, same card... didn't notice.... not saying anything, it'll stay up a few days, then be squirreled away for next year. The sentiment is the same if the card is old or new.

Heatherjayne1972 · 15/02/2023 08:19

Nope. I’m not going to be told when to celebrate by the card manufacturers/ powers that be
same as pancake day- we have pancakes whenever we want to all year round
We don’t do Halloween either
We sort of do Easter - I just buy the kids an egg and Christmas we do but only because the kids want to

and I was upfront from the start about Santa/Easter bunny/ tooth fairy
