Have you had a pay rise?

Heard on the news private sector pay rises of 7%. I don’t know anyone that’s had a pay rise this/last year and I’ve never had one above 2-3%.

Curious what industries are actually giving this? In mine and DH’s sector, the only way to get a pay rise is to hand in your notice and suddenly they find the money!

My sister gets a 2% rise if she hits an ‘excellent’ rating. Which I thought was alright but clearly some industries are taking care of their staff right now and I want to know where to look!

I work in retail management. We've had 5% this year, usually it's 1-2%. I thought that was pretty good.

trythisforsize · 17/01/2023 18:44

3% 2022, between 1 - 2% previous 3 years, before that, pay freeze since 2009. Charity. Union hasnt batted an eyelid

Sanch1 · 17/01/2023 18:45

I'm in construction consultancy, I got 10% at pay review in october, but I had been working above my role for some time, 4% was more common. I'm just about to get just shy of 25% with promotion.

itswednesdayy · 17/01/2023 18:45

No, although the union is rallying people to strike. My pay actually decreased last year with removal of the WFH allowance

Helpmesortit · 17/01/2023 18:46

Pharmaceuticals 2.3-2.5 every year and last year another 7% and a bonus of 8% each year too.

9%.
School support staff.

What county and grade?!

ChristmasCakeAndStilton · 17/01/2023 18:56

@peeweechigs NJC scales, grade 5.

I was on 17,000 at 0.8 of full time. Got the nationally agreed 1925, pro rata to 1560.

zighead · 17/01/2023 19:01

We got 4.5% which sounds okay but as we haven't had a decent pay rise for a few years, it really needed to be 8% to be in any way decent. I was annoyed that our union agreed and didn't put it to a vote.

ClarissaParry · 17/01/2023 19:12

I received a COL increase that was a flat rate for everyone under 50k, so percentage wise that is different depending on pay, for me it equated to just under 4%. Helps absorb rising bills a wee bit.

I'm hoping annual bonuses are still happening this year, as well as individual performance based pay reviews, but it's dependent on more factors than I'm even aware of.

My biggest jumps in pay have always been when moving roles, though.

KenAdams · 17/01/2023 19:15

Charity. We had 8% but gave up 3% of that so lowest paid workers could have 10%.

KenAdams · 17/01/2023 19:16

Oh and a £1k COL increase across the board.

DelurkingAJ · 17/01/2023 19:16

Insurance. Pay rise in March was 3%. Everyone under £40k has received a one off payment. Be interesting to see what they offer come this March.

Minusthree · 17/01/2023 19:19

Neither of us have had one yet and we also wonder about mythical private sector rises. O/H has never had more than 1.5% in the last 20 years - increases are due to promotions or performance related bonus which have been reduced or the target to reach them increased

Phasechamber · 17/01/2023 19:20

Charity - fuck all.

Campolini · 17/01/2023 19:27

I got 10.1% and a £500 cost of living bonus

MatildaJayne · 17/01/2023 19:27

I’m school support staff. Have been for 15 years. After mostly 0% or occasionally 1% I actually got 9% this year. With inflation it’s still a lot less than I was on 15 years ago.

Maestro12 · 17/01/2023 19:29

Quasi public sector - 0.8%. Haven’t had a meaningful rise in years, all been around 1% at best.

lowest paid for a COL payment and 3%

waiting2022 · 17/01/2023 19:30

Technology sector. 2% payrise in 2022.

TheHobbitMum · 17/01/2023 19:35

6.4% I work in retail

LaMariposa · 17/01/2023 19:36

£1k one off COL payment and 4.5% payrise in October. Next payrise due April.
Annual bonus in April and should be ~7% of salary.
I’m in finance.

DH got 13% - senior technical IT.

whirlyhead · 17/01/2023 19:38

Self-employed. 0%, same as for last 4 years. I now earn less than I did 25 years ago and work harder. Hooray.

Flowersonthewall123 · 17/01/2023 19:45

Private sector 2% payrises if within your band. If top of band it’s nothing.

BrieAndChilli · 17/01/2023 19:48

Last year I got a 10% payrise.
December I got a promotion and went from 33 hours to 37. Increase in pay was about 35%

SweetPetrichor · 17/01/2023 19:49

Last year I had approx. 20% increase staggered across the year. A combination of our annual increase plus extra increases related to inflation and competitor rates. I work in private sector engineering. Retaining employees is a big focus - if you don’t pay well enough there are always competitors looking for skilled engineers!

WhiteFire · 17/01/2023 19:59

Third sector. 6.5% this year, but less next year. Had a CoL payment back end of last year. I have also just negotiated a change of salary grade.
