We're trapped in the house!

A hedge has fallen in front of the gate and we cannot get out of the front garden. And Amazon cannot get in to deliver the chain saw we ordered a couple of days ago when we noticed the hedge was starting to look a bit out of control and the branches were too thick for the hedge trimmer.

I'm thinking if we use the hedge trimmer on the smaller branches and try a normal saw on the thicker branches we might be able to get it small enough to climb over/through but we cannot start until it is light and it doesn't get light until after DD leaves for school.

I can't tell the school the truth can I? They won't believe DD cannot get to school because she can't get out of the front garden, will they?

This is one of the most ridiculous posts I've ever read. You can't get out but you can get an Amazon and a Just Eat delivery?

Maybe keep on top of your hedge maintenance in future... and the drama.

Classic RTFT fail! OP has very clearly stated that the reason she knew the hedge was down was that the Just Eat delivery guy called to say he couldn't get in. Also that Amazon couldn't deliver the chainsaw due to the hedge being down...

LlynTegid · 16/01/2023 18:32

Glad to know you have access OP and grateful you updated.

The person who suggested Nick Knowles- if I thought he was coming I'd want to be unable to get out of the house. Horrible vain man.

Tuskanini · 17/01/2023 17:48

Joking apart -of COURSE - you could get out -forget about the chain saw. They are very dangerous to an inexperienced user. Even with the correct protective clothing, goggles etc.

Moira1951 · 17/01/2023 17:55

Think you’ve wimped out! Get a grip for Gods sake, it’s a hedge, not an avalanche of rocks!

CheshireCat1 · 17/01/2023 18:00

Dig the rose bushes up and replant them when you’re sorted

Sn1859 · 17/01/2023 18:04

Have you got small cutters that you could use to get through the hedge? Better still a pair of gloves so you could at least try and make a gap to get in and out of. Any gloves would do as long as it’s not spiky. It’s so cold out you won’t feel your fingers anyway!

Sn1859 · 17/01/2023 18:08

Sorry, should have realised the problem was already sorted. Glad the just eat driver can get back in now. I was starting to get worried 😂😝

Isinglass20 · 17/01/2023 18:08

Re Greenfingerswouldbehandy

I’m with you. Talk about non-event. Just hold branches back and let your dd climb through or trim rose bushes right back. It’ll make them grow and flower better ✂️

GlasgowGal82 · 17/01/2023 18:10

I'd really advise sending the chain saw back. They are really dangerous and should only be operated by someone who has been trained to do so in my opinion. Even then if you lose concentration (or get caught up in a fight with a giant bush) it's very easy to lost a hand or a foot.

Bbq1 · 17/01/2023 18:21

Haha - good try Op

pucelleauxblanchesmains · 17/01/2023 18:54

Every time someone on here posts about a problem they're facing there's always one person who arrives to tell them needlessly that they're being pathetic. Every time.

Anonymouseposter · 17/01/2023 18:56

I would have been trapped in by that too. I am the middle house of three and the house is on a steep hill. There's no exit from the back garden and high hedges on both sides. I can guarantee that one neighbour would most definitely not let us go through her house and it would be impossible to climb into the other garden. All I could do would be to hack through it the same as OP had to do.

Is there a big bison in your garden?

😂

Just here for the ending

Me too, hoping for a bit of gore from chain saw mis use. Rubs hands on thighs. This could be better than Sporners Corner.

viques · 17/01/2023 19:16

Oh. Disappointed, I mean I am pleased no one got hurt , gritted teeth, but a tiny bit sad it sort of petered out into a wild garden thread.

justasking111 · 17/01/2023 19:20

@Frequency whatever you do please check your tenancy agreement and run your plans past your landlord.

Yes tell the school the truth, if they don’t believe you share photo or invite them around, no shame in that

Mumwithbaggage · 17/01/2023 19:43

I remember a mum being embarrassed she couldn't get to school because her electric gates broke. I thought it was hilarious but she was very embarrassed at having such a first world problem!

Bluekerfuffle · 15/01/2023 23:12

Missing the point, but if there’s no back exit, do you wheel your bins through the house or just keep them out front permanently?

This is a totally bizarre question! We don't keep our bins at the back, they live next to the house under the carport.
Have you honestly never been to or seen a house that either doesn't have a back or just has a garden?

QueenSmartypants · 17/01/2023 20:13

I can't believe how many people are getting their knickers in a twist over this thread 😆

I mean if you’d bothered to RTFT you’d have seen the OP actually posted pictures of said fallen tree…

browneyes77 · 17/01/2023 20:20

Christ on a bike! What is wrong with some of the posters on MN??

Calling the OP pathetic, a drunkard, a liar etc. Seriously?

You literally sound deranged getting so worked up and being so vicious about a fallen bloody tree 😂😂

Candymay · 17/01/2023 20:20

You need to order two trampolines. Have them delivered next door. (Door dash or Uber) then next door passes one over to you. And they keep one on their side. You then bounce over the fence. Safe and fun. And healthy. And good for bonding with the neighbours.
