Even though I'm a nurse I have no idea what's going on with me lately

I was ill between Xmas and new year, thought it was the rubbish AI drinks - had diarrhoea, nausea, persistent tiredness, couldn't stomach alcohol

Came home on 3rd Jan and felt a bit better when I started eating better
Then been away for 2 nights, same again, was sick after food, not enjoying alcohol, slept 12 hours, could eat anything but toast at breakfast
Now stomach cramps and nausea, bloated, tired

Have you tested for covid? I was a bit surprised but these were my son's only symptoms while the ready of us got the full on flu like symptoms.
Could also be any number of gastro bugs though, they often take a while to settle

Riverlee · 13/01/2023 18:37

My first though was ovarian related also.

I had something similar in the summer which was eventually covid
The GP thought it was campylobacter then

I think I need to have a week on bland foods & water

What I really fancy is tinned spaghetti over oven chips

Covid again

At about this age I started to feel nauseated sometimes. It's like being pregnant. I'm too old to be pregnant but I have got up, felt sick and got sick a good few times due to menopause I think

Ursuala · 13/01/2023 18:53

I couldn’t face food when nauseous but good sign that you can as will keep your energy up at least

TomAllenWife · 13/01/2023 18:59

@Ursuala it's like pregnancy nausea, some things you really fancy, while just the sheer mention of something can make me want to vomit

I'll do a LFT now and see

Had this for three days before Xmas. Ate very carefully. Then Tuesday after Christmas another bout. I blamed it on a nasty bug the grandchildren had which I was heavily exposed to. My stomach is still a bit dodgy

justasking111 · 13/01/2023 19:04

Bonus points for losing loads of weight over Christmas 😜

As a nurse, probably best to always do one of showing clear signs of range of symptoms that you displayed when last covid positive

TomAllenWife · 13/01/2023 19:18

I'm not sure why I'm getting such a sniffy tone @Ursuala
I have actually tested twice this week already
But thank you for the advice

In "the olden days" you could have spoken with a doctor and had a good long chat about the whole thing covering all the aspects of it, only people who pay privately will get that level of attention these days. And I feel ancient writing that!

QueenMabs · 13/01/2023 19:22

Where were you holiday and for how long and when did it start-sorry if I have missed this.

TomAllenWife · 13/01/2023 19:42

@QueenMabs we were in Dubai for 7 days
It started on about the 3rd day

OP posts:
weekfour · 13/01/2023 19:42

Could it be stress?

emmathedilemma · 13/01/2023 19:49

Try the “sick dog diet” of plain chicken and rice and I’d maybe extent it to things like potatoes, toast (go for bland white bread) and rice tea biscuits for at least 48 hours. Also add a good probiotic drink daily.

PlimplePlop · 13/01/2023 19:50

You need to get your GP to rule out ovarian cancer. Of course much more likely to be less sinister cause but needs checking out. Hope you feel better soon.

TomAllenWife · 13/01/2023 20:12

My CA125 is quite closely monitored as it runs high all the time

But thank you, I'll get it re-checked, it's been 6m at least

might you have had covid (even not realising?). I think it can mess up digestion.

have you tried some friendly bacteria? might be worth taking supplement / yakult type thing

TomAllenWife · 13/01/2023 20:14

Definitely in need of some good bacteria

Is Yakut the better one out there?

Not being able to tolerate alcohol was also making me think of cancer I’m afraid. No nights sweats or lumps anywhere?

TomAllenWife · 13/01/2023 21:31

Lots of night sweats but that peri menopause
I'm normally quite a good drinker

Presumably and hopefully… negative?

QueenMabs · 14/01/2023 09:11

Sound like a bad stomach bug or food poisoning.

That can last weeks and months.

Omeprszole and buscopan can both help but it need time to heal really.

I've had two when I've been I'll
For a week or two then a several
More weeks in recovery. I'd call gp Monday they might do a stool sample. Once from Asia and once from the UK. Had antibiotics for the Malaysian episode.
