Stupid bloody van parking thread

I need to know if I'm the correct level of annoyed or if I'm too far gone in my crazy van hatred! 😂

Outside our house (on the road), we have the space where I usually park and then a small stretch of road where there are no houses and you can fit 2 cars.
So I park outside, my DH next to it and then a neighbour. All 3 cars fit nicely.

SO THIS VAN... a few months ago, a lady parked this big ugly van awkwardly outside my house and left it for a whole week so only neighbours car would fit in their usual space.
The lady now does this regularly and usually on a Tuesday.
She'll park the van in a really awkward spot so we lose two spaces (if she budged up a few feet we could get an extra one in) and then leaves it for an entire week before collecting it and what's even more annoying, SHE DOESN'T EVEN LIVE ON OUR ROAD!! 🙈🙈🙈

So I have to park way down the road and everyday have to lug my 3 and 4yo's and all their stuff through the rain to get from the car to the house!
(I will include a diagram if you'd like)

So mumsnetters, what do I do?

A. Nothing, she pays Road tax like everyone else and can park where she likes.

B. Leave a note, politely asking her to budge up a bit so I can at least fit my car?

C. Another sensible option which you will add in the comments

D. A passive aggressive, insane option which you will add in the comments

E. Call the police and tell them the van is filled with drugs and get it towed 😂

Thanks in advance 😊

Plot twist!!! The van has moved! After only one day!! This has never happened before.
I'm a bit miffed I didn't get to stick my note on the window 😂

Parking her car there is legal, letting her tyre down is mean. Imagine if you go to do the school run and someone has let yours down?

A polite note asking her to move forwards is reasonable

Yeah, I can’t believe people are seriously suggesting this…

It isn't a car, it is a stonking great van, and is sometimes left there for a week. Not really relevant to the school run.

Maybe she's on Mumsnet 😁

XanaduKira · 11/01/2023 17:00

Glad it's moved Op - get your own car back there quickly! Hopefully she is on MN and won't leave it there again!

SouperNoodle · 11/01/2023 17:05

I did wonder if maybe she's an MNer 😅 it's all just too convenient! I ran out and put my car there the second I saw it was gone 😂

Could you and DH park so close she blocked in when she comes to collect it? Or do you know someone with an old banger that could block her in for a few days. I can't stand bad parking

BlackeyedSusan · 11/01/2023 17:26

She might think she is being considerate not blocking a driveway by parking back a bit not realising it is more annoying taking up two spaces.

Ex had a neighbour who liked to park right outside their house whether this then took up two spaces or not. And later another neighbour who was shit at parking who took up two spaces with their tiny car when it could fit two big cars. Bad parking was bloody annoying.

I'd feel really mean blocking her in (not that I haven't considered it haha)
I'm honestly hoping she's on Mumsnet and has seen this thread so that I can avoid all awkwardness of having to actually talk to her 😂

You must have the patience of a saint!! That would drive me utterly insane 😂 nothing quite pisses me off like bad parking

Not really. It would drive me mad if they carried on doing it but it is just generally down to the oblivious-ness of 19/20 year olds and a quick note sorts it with no bother.

They're generally very adorable & sort of Bambi-ish. There’s usually a decent babysitter amongst them and at the moment a lovely set of physics lads 3 doors up who love kicking a ball around with my 8 year old!

Aloezebra · 11/01/2023 19:33

@LucyWhipple thats very sweet I bet your wee one loves that!

It neither destroys nor damages property so is therefore not criminal damage

Although technically the tyre is not 'damaged', if you do something to someone else's property and they need to do something to restore it, that is Criminal Damage within the meaning of the Criminal Damage Act.

The police will treat it as such.

Tilllly · 11/01/2023 21:43

Criminal damage covers temporary impairment of usefulness so letting down tyre's isn't a great idea
Besides, what if she retaliates?

And how do you all know how to do that?!!

Definitely seen this thread then 🤣

You'll get loads of people saying you don't have a right to the road space outside your house, you don't own it, she pays road tax too (presumably) blah blah blah

It would REALLY ANNOY ME TOO

I would leave a passive aggressive note. Because I'm petty. But not sign it. Because I'm a scaredy cat.

That’s worse than doing nothing - I’d probably park there more!
If you’re going to leave a note, as least make yourself available for discussion of the matter IMO
