What the fuck to do with a half finished bowl of cereal filled with milk? The sink? Loads of mush. The bin? Too much liquid….

is there an answer?

OP posts:

I thought this was going to be about exercise 😅

Do you know what poo is made from??

OP my kids always eat half their cereal (until I give them half and then they want seconds) this is the BANE of my life. I try and pour milk down the sink and the cereal in the food bin. So annoying though. Some cereal always ends up in the sink. Ugh!

I know it isn't rational to find the idea horrifying, and I can see the logic, there is just something revolting about the idea!

PurpleButterflyWings · 09/01/2023 14:39

Why are people so pearl-clutchy about sticking it down the lavvy? Confused I mean, I wouldn't throw a 400 gram block of cheese down the loo, or a quarter of a chicken, or half a dozen mars bars! But a bit of leftover cereal with milk, or some soup, is no worse than poo or puke.

I usually do drain any leftover milk down the sink, and hold the soggy cereal with a spoon, and then chuck the soggy cereal in the bin. But with soup, if there is quite a bit left, I do sling it down the loo. It's only sloppy, runny food, it's not toxic waste!

Befanadi · 09/01/2023 14:41

I suppose weetabix consistency might be fine down the loo. Though I wouldn't like the idea of taking kitchen crockery into the bathroom or loo.

You're allowed to wash them up afterwards.

Ravageur · 09/01/2023 14:43

My dog gets it

I wouldn't put it down the loo as we have creaky old drains that are just looking for an excuse to block.

Sink strainer.

Befanadi · 09/01/2023 14:45

I know that. I just wouldn't want to take kitchen crockery into the bathroom or loo. Over the top squeamish and pearl-clutching of me I know.

otherwayup · 09/01/2023 14:46

@Flameshame
I thought you meant you'd never been to the gym!
Was about to reply 'don't worry, I'm 52 and never have either!' 🤦🏻‍♀️

SafferUpNorth · 09/01/2023 14:59

My DCs always ends up serving themselves for than they need. I hate food waste, so I separate the milk from the soggy cereal with a sieve. Milk goes in my coffee and soggy cereal into the food waste bin. Simples.

I would also have no hesitation flushing unwanted/inedible sloppy food down the loo. I've done that with mouldy soup and gravy that have been forgotten in the fridge 😝

Toddlerbaby · 09/01/2023 15:00

We give it to our dogs but when we are on holiday and they aren’t there we are always really lost about what to do!

FurryDandelionSeekingMissile · 09/01/2023 14:37

It's not that, it's that drainage systems aren't set up for food, so anything that doesn't break down as easily as shit can cause a problem. I think saturated Rice Krispies are probably okay though…

The drainage system? Confused What are you envisaging when people are talking about soggy cereal and soup leftovers?

FurryDandelionSeekingMissile · 09/01/2023 15:44

Depends on the soup — big chunks of chicken could form the nucleus of a clog. But I was responding to posts about food in general going down the loo, which could include all kinds of unsuitable things, not just flabby bran flakes. When you live with Victorian plumbing (of a particularly unusual type, the installation of which was discontinued by the Victorians themselves after about three years, because it turned out to be prone to clogging…) you think about these things rather more than the average person has to 😖

Wallabyone · 09/01/2023 14:22

Do people really throw food down the toilet?! 🥴

I have done this on occasion but only with old tins , yoghurts etc. I hate the way the toilet water splashes back. I wouldn't want this on my cereal bowls 🤢

gogohmm · 09/01/2023 15:46

No-one was suggesting putting big chunks of food down there though - and without going into too much graphic detail, vomit can be a bit (ahem) chunky.

Pour it down carefully onto the side and you don’t get splashes.

That is utterly vile.

Agree with @oudie that is actually quite foul. 🤢

Montague22 · 09/01/2023 15:58

Leave it on the side for DH to sort 😂 Or strain and bin. Can always put a sheet of kitchen roll over the plug hole to catch any bits. Or pour the whole lot into an old carrier and bin.

I actually like really minimal milk so it’s only an issue if I let cereal go soft and can’t eat it. Hate soggy cereal.

So am I. There's a difference between digested food and food waste.

LynneBenfield · 09/01/2023 15:59

The food flushers baffle me too. It shouldn’t be flushed.

I get it. I get grossed out that people put poo in the bin instead of the loo (nappies, dog poo) but most people seem totally fine with that! But I digress 😄💩

Upsettyspaghetti · 09/01/2023 16:01

Dog?! Or is that just us?!

MickeyMouseShithouse · 09/01/2023 16:02

My sink plug is also a good catcher, so it gets poured into the sink, rinsed so all the bits go into the catcher then I pick that up, tap it into the bin then rinse it off.
