What helps when you feel a bit low?

Feeling a bit low today. Think it’s compounded by lack of sleep last night due to a nasty headache. I did go back to bed for a couple hours in the middle of the day, but feel guilty for this!

Just wondering what people find helpful to cheer themselves up when feeling a bit down. Sunday evening blue’s definitely not helping!

Nice thread with some good ideas here! Some things that cheered me up today:

Walk in the countryside
Sorting one of the bookshelves
Baking - made some scones
Reading a good book
Kiss and a cuddle
Catching up with family and friends over text.

It is totally normal to feel down at times, but that doesn't make it any easier. XXX

hot bath, being cosy in bed with fresh sheets and a good book or something good to watch. Orgasm.

Going for a run.

January can be a bluesy month!

I think it's ok to wallow in sorrow sometimes, vale of tears and all that. You could always lean into it for a day, listen to music that makes you feel sad or nostalgic. Watch a classic 70s weepy. Sit outside and ponder the death of Winter but know that it's just a brief pause before Spring. Read some poetry that resonates whilst taking a long, hot bath. Just feel what you're feeling and realise that it's part of a fully lived life.

And then perk the fuck up tomorrow!

A walk in greenery
A good book
A cuppa and a biscuit/chocolate
New bedsheets and electric blanket on [winter]
Knitting
Doing some gardening [spring,summer,autumn]
A good film/tv
Company: family/friend

Put on some upbeat music and have a dance around the room

piano789 · 08/01/2023 18:54

Definitely music for me!

A cuddle
Doing some artwork - the process is more important than the outcome .
Working with clay and getting my hands grubby

I hope you are ok , if you tend to feel like this in the winter months have you thought of getting a SAD light? It can help.

I have considered a SAD lamp. Do you use them all the time, or at certain times of day?

FT123456 · 08/01/2023 20:52

I quite like listening to music or watching a favourite film x

CurlyhairedAssassin · 08/01/2023 21:01

Looking through photos of an amazing holiday you have great memories of. Preferably with someone else so you can both reminisce.

Andrea87 · 08/01/2023 23:20

I know someone who uses the SAD light about an hour a day and it helps.

I see you have a dh so my suggestion is what I love to do -huge long hug from dh. He gives the best hugs. And this afternoon we lay on the bed and cuddled & had a snooze for an hour! The best way to spend a Sunday. We also like to snuggle on the sofa & watch something together. We're together 23 years ❤️
Hope you feel better soon
