Just have just visited Newport for an appointment, we weren’t there long, toilet stop and cuppa in Asda, half hour appointment in city centre and then got lost on the way out but felt very uneasy the whole time were there. It had quite a menacing feel to it and even on the bare aesthetics of the city seemed quite run down with a lots of old closed pubs, shops etc…

I would actually go as far to say it made me feel quite unwell but I guess that would just be coincidence!!

We actually live rural Devon so not even like I’m not used to the odd lay line of two but I was quite relieved to get back on the road…

Has anyone else felt that about a place before?

My number one worst place of all time is Utah. It gave me the creeps big time.

Also:
Slough
Manchester
Luton

I’ve been watching this thread to see what people think of Newcastle upon Tyne?

MissCherryCakeyBun all of the South East ? Every single town and village ? Have you visited them all ?

runlittlemonster · 06/01/2023 22:34

I get this exact feeling from all Morrisons stores

Pollywoddles · 06/01/2023 22:34

Coventry - never again

"But with the places people say 'it's only kebab, pound, betting shops' if a posh cafe opened up with 10 pound sandwiches and 5 pound coffees and an expensive clothes shops or whatever
How long would they be in business for?"

They might do quite well, but then everyone would complain about gentrification and locals being pushed out etc.

Once the artisan coffee lot move in to show the local ruffians there's more to life than Greggs we should be grateful.

The Meridian Shopping centre in Peacehaven....feels like a set in a horror film.

Bristol. Hate it.

Why? What area?

crossstitchingnana · 06/01/2023 22:36

Sheffield. Been there twice and hated it. Miserable place.

No need to visit them all. They are all the same.

Newpuppymummy · 06/01/2023 22:37

Holloway Road in London

NibbledSwitch · 06/01/2023 22:37

SomeChickensAreJustTooBig · 06/01/2023 22:44

In my experience, and just my view -
Plymouth. Absolute dump.
Newport - same.
Coventry - pretty awful. People were friendly. They were in Newport, too, to be fair.
I didn’t find much to love about Basingstoke or Salisbury either.

Whiskeypowers · 06/01/2023 22:45

Thought of another two

Boston and Skegness

Agree, agree. I came on here to say Bridgwater. Probably the only place in the UK I have felt unsafe.

TheDogsMother · 06/01/2023 22:46

Anisina wow. Have you taken a look the very many lovely places there are in this corner of the country ? Honestly I don't get this SE thing.

Are we not allowed to say the South East? Sorry, not sorry.

SomeChickensAreJustTooBig · 06/01/2023 22:48

My all time place of horror and bad memories - Crowthorne in Berkshire.

I don’t live in London but it’s demonstrably not a shit hole. It has shit parts like any city, true.

It smacks of envy I’m afraid.

I love London but I don't think people are envious if they dont
