I take turmeric for general joint aches, a probiotic for gut health, and a multi vitamin and mineral.
What do you recommend others should try, and have you had any noticeable results?
Just interested in optimising health in these troubling times, and hopefully giving the best chance of not needing medical intervention.

Vitamin D

Better you multi Vit spray

Better you high strength Iron spray (this one I can honestly say makes a massive difference to my energy levels)

Ashwaghnda for mild anxiety - think it has helped, could be placebo though.

Collagen marine type 1 with hyraulonic acid for skin, hair, joints. Hair definitely improved but also started plantur 39 shampoo so could be either.

Zinc and magnesium at bedtime for restless legs and sleep though I'm forever forgetting to take it before bed.

Looking to add a probiotic as reading suggests these are key in keeping us healthy and fighting off bugs so open to suggestions if anyone has a specific brand they can recommend?

I take a high magnesium complex
A high iron complex
A multi vitamin for women and a high vitamin D every day

I take magnesium citrate but the digestive effect is good for me as it makes me "go." I imagine if you have no such problem it might have a more diarrhea effect...

I might swap to that when I run out of mine. I definitely have the opposite problem. Didn't realise that magnesium might be contributing to it. Oops!

Vitamin D3 drops - took these for three months and almost doubled my score on the blood test.

b12 - I don’t eat meat

a probiotic drink every morning from Hannah Sillitoe - worth a google for the awesome reviews.

GoneToday · 04/01/2023 22:59

Iron bisglycinate as I have heavy periods.
Probiotic - women’s bio culture - keeps away any other ‘issues’!
Multivitamin (supermarket version of berocca).
Nov- March I take a D3 & K2 combined too.

Spirini · 04/01/2023 23:00

Omega 3 for joints, eyes
Inositol for hormone balance, insulin resistance
D Mannose for UTIs
High strength vitamin D
Biotin for nails and hair

For the pp who is sceptical, all the ones I take are scientifically linked to certain health benefits, in some cases as effective as prescription meds.

thaegumathteth · 04/01/2023 23:01

Folic acid because I was prescribed it.
B12 because I am deficient and get injections but can't do any harm.
D3 because I live in Scotland!
D mannose because of UTIs

Quisquam · 04/01/2023 23:03

Vitamin D, as I thought I was dying of exhaustion. It turned out to be vitamin D deficiency.

Vitamin B complex, as I couldn’t find vitamin B 3 anywhere on its own. A genetic disease means we are likely to suffer vitamin B deficiencies, and especially B 3.

Upwiththelark76 · 04/01/2023 23:11

Lysine to prevent cold sores
vit c
milk thistle
ubiquinol
multi vitamin

Can I please ask the magnesium takers what type they are using? I started on magnesium citrate which did help my sleep but the effect on my digestive system became too much!

@Roseberry1 @reluctantbrit @runningonberocca

Epsom salt bath twice a week, soak for 20 mi.
and the tablets are L-Threonate.

DoofusMyDog · 05/01/2023 07:11

Magnesium, Vit c, Vit d and pro biotic.

Girlintheframe · 05/01/2023 07:26

I take phyllium husk capsules. Have done for years. Helps keep everything regular and prevent constipation which I'm prone too.

BorisJohnsonsHair · 05/01/2023 07:48

Vit D as it's winter.
Multi-vitamin
Iron
Omega 3
Turmeric and black pepper in warm milk

thunderstruckk · 05/01/2023 07:52

@Ws2210 I've never taken accutane (is that the one for acne?) so I'm not sure if they're similar! Retinol is a code name for vitamin A (great for skin / hair, helps the immune system etc) but I always call it retinol for some reason!

LetsDoThis2023 · 05/01/2023 08:14

runningonberocca · 04/01/2023 21:02

Berocca for a general perk up and I feel ( and I do know it’s not evidence based) that it perks up my immunity, Vit D3 - for energy levels, aches and pains and because of potential less severe outcomes from Covid, magnesium - for sleep ( peri)

Magnesium has been a game changer for me

Which magnesium do you take?

LetsDoThis2023 · 05/01/2023 08:15

Is Vit D3 different from vit D?

LetsDoThis2023 · 05/01/2023 08:18

I know someone who took so many vitamins that they calcified in her stomach and she was very sick. Don't take too many! Take liquids if you can.

Ws2210 · 05/01/2023 08:21

Sounds great! Accutane is very high doses of vitamin a so that makes sense

Useyourfork · 05/01/2023 08:22

Vit D3 from October to March. I do have a immune complex tablets to take if I feel like I’m coming down with something which I just take for a couple of days.

NannyOggsWhiskyStash · 05/01/2023 08:29

I take zinc, magnesium, Vitamin D3 and calcium to boost my immune system, and for sleep, collagen for skin and hair, and Ashwagandha for menopause related low libido. Sometimes melatonine or 5HTP for sleep

HermioneWeasley · 05/01/2023 08:36

Feroglobin for iron and b12 as I’m naturally low
collagen for nails
psylum husk for regularity
probiotic for gut health
vit d as I read pretty much everyone in uk is deficient

caroleanboneparte · 05/01/2023 08:41

Apple cider vinegar capsules, it seems to work as a bit of an appetite suppressant and is good for general health

Vitamin d in the winter due to lack of sun

Iron during period

Milk thistle if I've been drinking to cleanse the liver

A menopause multivitamin as I think I'm peri

Omega oil as I don't eat 3 portions of oily fish a week

Evening primrose oil for hormones

(I used to take starflower oil as well but it's too expensive now)

Sometimes kalms if I'm anxious

A b multivitamin if I'm feeling exceptionally run down and have missed a couple of days of my regular one

Co enzyme q10

Magnesium if I've not been sleeping well

Garlic for heart health (not all the time)

Ginkgo biloba and Korean ginseng I take for a couple of weeks every so often

Glucosamine sulphate for my joints

Cranberry to prevent bladder pain

I've also tried honey capsules and collagen/clear complexion and green tea pills.

But there are only so many I can take in a day!

HaggisBurger · 05/01/2023 08:48

KylieKangaroo · 04/01/2023 22:02

B12, iron, garlic, folic acid, magnesium and vit C. I have no idea if they make any difference but cannot bear to catch 1000 colds a year that my kids get, also suffer terribly with mouth ulcers so will try anything to reduce them too.

Does anyone else forget a day here and there, does that make much difference do you think?

I changed toothpaste to Sensodyne from regular Colgate etc. Read that one of the ingredients in normal can really contribute to mouth ulcers. Seems to have really helped.

bluetongue · 05/01/2023 09:14

Just vitamin d at the moment. A blood test showed low levels and the GP recommended it. I’m in Australia and I’m white but apparently it’s still pretty common for people here to be deficient.

Was taking iron for a while after heavy periods left me with very low ferritin. My levels normalized so I don’t take it anymore (it has some unpleasant side effects).

Quisquam · 05/01/2023 09:19

I also drink golden milk - turmeric and black pepper in milk
