Sorry it's parking again - people 'reserving' spaces

Someone in our road has decided that one of the parking spaces - which are council owned and free for anyone to use - is 'theirs' and taken to reserving it with a cone 🙄. Annoyingly they actually live in some flats that have their own parking but for some reason choose not to park there. Theyre not very approachable and have another neighbour keeping watch when they are out to make sure the cone isn't touched - it's laughable but also baffling!

There isn't lots of parking here and to have one space taken up makes things tricky at times - we've been shouted at for removing the cone but I cant see why on earth the person thinks they have more right to the place than anyone else.

What can we do? I really dont want to get into any drama but it's getting ridiculous.

Love the come over a cone!

LlynTegid · 04/01/2023 12:52

Calling the council, hope that works.

Other option if the parking is difficult in where you feel he ought to park is to report him to the DVLA suggesting he has eyesight issues.

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 04/01/2023 12:59

Is it a company branded van? If so report him to them.

Lost123454 · 04/01/2023 13:02

I've previously removed a cone

Reserving a space is probably one of the most selfish, entitled things I've ever seen

HAHAHAAAAA!!!!

Whoops.

In the dead of night, sneak out and remove the cone. Put it up somewhere really, really high but visible, as a warning. Do it with each successive cone until a lovely family of cones reside up there. Perhaps even decorate the cones as a nativity scene at Christmas. Draw big eyes on the cones to make it even better.

GreenManalishi · 04/01/2023 13:06

Pull up next to the cone, throw the cone in your car boot and park.

Drop the cone off somewhere nice for a little holiday with some friends.

Presumably just sitting on top of the washing machine Grin

WombatChocolate · 04/01/2023 13:50

That odd typing was me. Why is it my iPad starts doing that?

SarahAndQuack · 04/01/2023 13:51

Just move it.

If there's a local FB group or similar, you could be extra passive aggressive and post saying that council workers have left a cone out in the road and does anyone know who to contact to get it picked up?

Fruitsalaaad · 04/01/2023 13:55

Comefromaway · 04/01/2023 12:07

Someone used to do that and I just moved the cone and parked. One time I was reverse parking and I didn't see the cone so I drove over it and squashed it.

Here for the comments...absolute comedy!

Ps..OP - report to council with footage.

AlpacaBag · 04/01/2023 14:42

I'd remove it and replace it with something else. Every day. Such as a wheelbarrow, a chair, a mannequin.... oh the fun you could have....

UWhatNow · 04/01/2023 14:50

I would just move it and park there. If they yelled I would tell them to shove their cone where the sun don’t shine.

@AlpacaBag that is genius and so tempting!

Get some quick dry cement and cement the cone to the minder's doorstep in the dead of night.

Exactly my thoughts. Sad bastard. If they want parking they need to buy a house with a driveway. First come first served on the road.

I have an old car, when faced with this I put the cone on my roof - another time I ran it over.

LynneBenfield · 04/01/2023 11:59

A local man does the same in the street behind my mother. Everyone lets it go as he is very elderly and struggles with walking, so couldn’t manage parking several houses’ (or further) away. Could this be the case with your person? Though obviously not using their allocated space is a weird one, unless it is awkward/tiny/far away

If he has a blue badge the council can come and paint a disabled space for him. Just google your local council for the application form.

SkiingIsHeaven · 27/01/2023 01:15

Every time they park in the space out a note on telling them not to park in your space. That will confuse them.

Randommother · 27/01/2023 01:34

Get a sharpie and draw a giant cock on the cone…
