Influencers selling gifted clothes?

I don't know but it doesn't sit right with me.
There's a woman who I watch on YouTube
She always posts her everlane hauls and many other companies
With so much free stuff
She's just opened a vinted and Is selling it all
Not for cheap either
I made a offer (lower ) and obviously she declined it (wasn't buying )
And it just made me feel sick
All the free stuff and rather than donating it
She's selling it to make money (after being paid by the brand to promote it )
Doesn't sit right with me
What's everyone's opinions of these influences?

Selling stuff she got given, fine.

Lying about it to get other people to buy it when you think it's shit, not.

She's an influencer. Includes are literally there to monetise the system however they can. If you dont like it stop watching.

WunWun · 02/01/2023 13:55

The whole point of her being on YouTube is to make a living out of it? Why on earth would she give it away? I don't understand your logic.

FletchingStraight · 02/01/2023 13:55

Just stop watching

Tbh, it doesn’t sit well with me either. But it’s essentially the same as you selling a nail varnish you got free from a magazine, or a freebie gift with purchase.

Influencers are actually meant to disclose when selling gifted items, but most don’t.

It just leaves a bad taste in My mouth
To be on YouTube saying
Just got this and I love it -going to wear it with this -that the other
Then list it for sale the next day is a bit Meh in my eyes

I agree with you

closethedongdong · 02/01/2023 14:52

The things she got she chose
She gets a monthly amount to spend on any items

@WunWun she gets paid by the company to advertise it -the items she gets are free and she gets paid from views from YouTube

I’m pretty sure a lot of them are told not to sell it on as part of their brand deals etc. There was an influencer who sold “advent calendars” made out of all the freebies she’d been given and lost brand deals because of it.

It’s part of their job. Clothes don’t pay the bills, money does.
